with more than 7,100 cases across 11 provinces
7,742 infections in the UK just yesterday for a bit of perspective. And nearly 10,000 in the USA, 62,000 in India.
Before this wave appeared a few months ago most Thai factories has stayed open after the initial lockdown last year.
The measures they implemented were working well, but this highly contagious UK strain has ended that and has caused an economic bloodbath when coupled with the tourism industry being effectively shut down again to local tourism which has been helping many survive.
It is tragic for so many.

Didn't Prayut recently take direct responsibility for all things COVID and CSSA?
Where is the apology? I'm guessing there won't be one, other than a phone call at midnight.
You guess wrong.

I'm patient, I'll wait, may have to wait a long while though. I look forward seeing your false claims of what I posted.
You are very entitled to your own opinion but when you start making unfounded accusations then you are being inflammatory and promoting false accusations all of which are against the forum rules.
Hold on mate, give me until tomorrow.
Just to be clear, you are claiming you and others were predicting these low numbers of deaths 6-8 weeks ago?

Well that is just selfish.
And a big part of the problem in other countries that have seen horrific death tolls.
People just won't comply with the procedures put in place and resist the advice from the virologists and the result is 3+ million dead.
The countries that have allowed positive cases to isolate at home with no supervision have proven that people just can't be trusted, breach the rules and further spread the virus.
The stringent rules put in place in Thailand, who have been internationally commended for the handling of this crisis, not only stop the spread, but has the added benefit of keeping out people that refuse to comply.

Time for mass testing now
Have you gone and got tested yet?
Or do you just expect everyone else to go and get tested?
Because according to you, you should really be tested to stop hiding it.

Er, well, the numbers are hovering around 2,000 because of the controls in place and they have successfully, so far, stopped the exponential growth seen in Europe and the USA which killed over one million people.

Australia will be celebrating and I would be having BBQ party with many beers and watching the Queen's Birthday AFL game played in her her honour.
Unfortunately the covid situation in Thailand prevents that currently.
So I will enjoy watching the last game of Nathan Buckley as coach alone today as he was sacked during the week after 26 years with Collingwood without a single premiership.
A very sad year for the Queen with her husband passing away. It would nice if after she finishes grieving she finds love again.
God save the Queen

I think we are in for a period of somewhat higher daily case numbers.
I hope you are wrong and it is the death count that is all important.
I don't think any of us one month ago would have predicted so a low death number.

The all important death rate continues to decline thank Buddha.
Despite all the Negative Nancys and Doomsday Debbie's posting here everyday I am getting more optimistic that the Thais yet again have pulled off a near miracle with the handling of this British variant wave than killed hundreds of thousands of people in other countries.
We are not out of the woods yet, but the exponential growth that we saw in Europe and especially England hasn't occurred and looking like it won't.
I would like to thank the Thais for keeping us alive and would also like to take a moment to remember the over 2,000 Thais that sadly died from covid in Europe and the USA that were not so lucky.
RIP

I am curious where you would prefer to live and why ……. Thanks.
I thought you might have been a relatively new to Thailand person and just think the HH is ok, but there is a lot better further south that you might not have seen.
However considering your interests and situation HH appears to be a perfect match for you.
Good luck mate.
Your girlfriend sounds like she is a real diamond.

Is anyone else sick of the whining coming out daily from this "Phuket News"?
Obviously have an axe to grind or simply are trying to get readership by carrying on.
And is the writer a trained "writer"? Looking at that first paragraph it is very obvious to me he isn't.
4 hours ago, webfact said:International expert reports calling the preparations for the July 1 reopening “chaotic” is being polite.
Which international experts?
Many people have been working very hard to get Phuket reopened. It closed through no fault of their own and after the sandbox plan was announced unfortunately we had the British variant sweep through Thailand, infecting tens of thousands and killing hundreds.
The Phuket tourist industry employs tens of thousands of Thais (and Burmese) that have had a very tough 18 months.
Everyone has been working to get this monumental task, that has never been done before, done well but we have daily snide and negative reports coming out if the Phuket News Daily as "opinion". It won't be without hiccups along the way.
You would think they would be trying to help, not hinder, but unfortunately they have employed an amateur writer who is an habitual whiner who just harps on like a spoilt child daily.
Nothing worse than someone uninvited showing up to a place and then constantly complaining. If he doesn't like it he should just leave. He isn't needed or wanted here.

They have done an exceptional job, despite that after it was first announced the British variant then swept through Thailand infecting tens of thousands and killing hundreds of Thais.
No new cases in Phuket for three days now which shows if you have a plan and stick with it, that you can get on top of covid. But you must be diligent.
If they can pull off this, which many of the doubters here claimed would not be possible, it will lead to a gradual reopening of the all important Thai tourist industry that employs millions of Thais who have been doing it tough for the last 18 months through no fault of their own.
It won't be without hurdles, but I wish them the success.
Good luck Phuket. We have missed you.

Big day tomorrow with the Queen's birthday celebrations. Not the Thai queen that was celebrated a couple of weeks ago with a national public holiday but our beloved Queen Elizabeth.
What do you do to celebrate her birthday?
God save the Queen.

This is Thailand.
It isn't so much as the cars, it is the attitude of the mechanics.
A lot of them would rather do a "modify" than actually bother to find the correct part. Which is often cheaper, often a failure, usually doesn't last and can also lead to other modifications.
I had a Chev sold in Thailand, but it was made abroad.
The local Pattaya dealership told me I had to get it services in BKk which was a major hassle.
I arrived one day to pick it up and the oil change light was still coming on dispite that they changed the oil. I watched them stuff around with the buttons for ages and told them to get the mechanics manual. They were shocked that I would ask for something like it, and they couldn't find one, so obviously never referred to it despite not having a clue.
While I was waiting stressing thinking I was going to get stuck in Bangkok peak hour I searched it on the internet, found a YouTube video showing how to do it myself. It was as simple as pushing two buttons together at the same time for 4 seconds.
<deleted> useless.
Chev have since left the country.
Most cars will so 500,00kms plus a if they are services by a good mechanic who actually knows what he is doing.

Well you are the spot on Farang demographic for HH.
I wouldn't put of moving locations because of covid. The numbers in Thailand are still comparitivly low, especially compared to your home country. Very low risk if you take precautions.
Personally I wouldn't choose HH to live. In my opinion there are better places to live in Thailand but if you and your young girlfriend like it that is up to you.

I think he was a bit young for that, as was I at the time ????
My father and grandfather had/has prostate cancer so mum was always on me for years to go get a prostate examination.
I always told her "When I see a petite nurse with very small hands I will get one"
About 5 years ago I was in Bangkok Pattaya Hospital for another minor issue and I saw one that looked perfect. From Issan, I can't remember the province, but about 40kgs with these tiny hands and we'll manicured but short fingernails.
So I garnered up some courage and ask her. She said "can" and asked me to follow her. I felt the same nervous excitement as the moments before I lost my virginity when I was a kid.
Unfortunately she lead me to another department that specialised in that sort of thing and I had to see a doctor and she then left me the there. I was disappointed but optimistic that the doctor would be beautiful anyway and maybe a Bangkok Hiso would be seeing to me.
But things got worse and when I was lead to the examination room there was an old male doctor who I suspected might have been a homosexual.
I was thinking to myself this is exactly why I kept putting it off, I was filthy on my mum for nagging me to do it and I was considering feigning having diareah or just bolting out of the room.
Anyway, as it turned out it was just a blood test which was a huge relief.
I recommend all blokes to go and get them regularly. Because with Dad, he left it too late and now he can't get an erection anymore.
If he had of gone earlier they would have given him less invasive treatment and he would still be able to give mum a good seeing too.

The title might include the word Issan but I don't believe that makes it exclusively so.
Well not on page 129 anyway.
I like the people of Issan, but also wonder why they do things the way they do and it frustrates me the lack of motivation some have to do simple things that could really improve their lives.
That said, without a doubt Morlam Sing is by far the most entertaining and fun thing ever. They absolutely nail partying regardless of age, day of the week or even time of the day. Genuine fun.
I also find BangFai festivals amazing. That such a thing could even be legal astounds me. First one I went to in Nong Bua Lampoo I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
Also spent a few Songkran festivals in numerous provinces over the years. I like to get in amongst it and is amazing how many girls have given me a fondle, sort of like walking down Soi 6 Pattaya but they are just normal girls having fun, not someone just trying to get a customer/money.
Other provinces they don't seem to go the nuts at all.
I have to have Issan food a couple of times per week. Kor Moo yang is my favourite meat dish in the world. I like a good gang hed often also.
I wouldn't want to live there though and prefer coastal living like yourself, but if I had a choice between living in Issan or Australia I would go choose Issan.

I don't live in Issan, I've been many times, I have many friends their, because I chose to live near the coast doesn't diminish my knowledge of Issan or my input to this thread. I'd be grateful if you could clarify your statement, thanks.

Everyone was in 300? Even the boss of the group?
They didn't have a drill? To mix the cement, render? Did they nail the ceiling in or screw it by hand.
Those seat benches out the front should have had steel rods drilled into the "sao" to support them.
I reckon the blokes I use with their own tools would get it done about 3 times faster to be honest. So 800 per day verses 300 per day works out probably about the same in the end.
And the right power tools are needed to do a quality job on a house build. I reckon they would cut corners because without tools some jobs would be too hard to do properly. Mai bpen Rai.
I hope for your sake I am wrong.

You clearly have no experience of employing Thais. My bank manager doesn't get 800 baht day. 500 baht/day for a cleaner? You're having a laugh.
Sounds like you think everywhere is like your Issan village where you will find cheap labour.
I doubt you employ anyone.
In Bangkok and in the south you won't get anyone decent for under 500 per day that will work consistently and stay.
I am not arguing with you. I am telling you.
And for your bank manager claim? To put it nicely, you don't have a clue. Looking at a 50,000 month minimum with health benefits, cheap loans etc.
You told me you can't read Thai, so you will have to get your wife to read it for you.
Link for bank managers wages for her to read to you.

Human trials of first Thai developed COVID-19 vaccine begins Monday

Unfortunately yet another, a retired policeman, died in Thailand from it yesterday.
There is a risk with it, as j said I hope the Thais, or anyone else, can come up with something better that people don't die from.
Wouldn't that be good?
