The Thais are a very caring people, especially when it comes to the elderly. Plus they got onto it a lot quicker and the government put in a lot of restrictions that Boris wouldn't do for fear of losing votes.
We haven't seen protesters out in the streets like in the UK marching against lockdowns, protesting against mask wearing, not being able to go to the pub etc etc and then there are the anti vaxxer weirdoes. There is always a high percentage of Brits who will oppose anything as it is their "human right". Karens on every corner.
Every step of the way they have resisted what the virologists recommended almost cult like. The USA and Brazil were similar and as a result the infections and death numbers are huge. They wouldn't be told.
Me, me, me.
Selfish.
The vast majority of Thais have accepted what the doctors have told them and behaved accordingly. Even the students protesting against the government were smart enough to see the bigger picture and pulled their heads in. For now.
We, we, we.
Sensible.
It even goes to leadership.
Last March Anutin was out handing out free masks to the people and there was a huge awareness here. A month later Boris Johnson was in covid wards UK unmasked shaking everyone's hands spreading it around and Donald Trump was mocking people for wearing masks.
The differences seen is largely down to leadership and attitudes of the people.

GETTING frustrated?!? They've BEEN frustrated. Those not permanently shuttered, that is.
Yes, with the Pattaya whorehouses closed down there are hundreds of thousands of lonely men around the world who rely on paying for sex that have been very frustrated. Tissues and toilet paper was stripped from the shelves.
There are also thousands of bargirls who had grown used to receiving a good seeing to several times a day that are also very frustrated.
The tension rises everyday.

A few days ago it was projected that Phuket would see around 3m tourists this year and today Kasikorn Research states a possible 1.2m this year.
I wish they'd make up their mind.
The Phuket sandbox campaign, which kicks off on July 1, could bring in up to 1.2 million foreign tourists until the year-end, according to a recent prediction by Kasikorn Research Centre
It is projection.
People's projections differ.
I project the Bombers will win the flag this year.

That is why Thailand needs to be very careful especially in quarantine facilities, bubble and seal worker camps and of course with the South African variant they have already found down south where the villages there are still locked down.
Thanks for sharing that knowledge Brian.
But shouldn't nearly a countries be doing that or is Thailand different in some way?

The news comes as the Delta (Indian) variant of COVID-19 has spread to 11 provinces in Thailand, with 348 people found to be infected to date
Less than 9% of cases.
The English variant still making up 88% of detected cases and killing hundreds of Thais.
I wonder if you can be infected with both variants simultaneously?

And the (Thai) variant corresponds to which Greek letter?
I think they have given the Thai strain an Egyptian hieroglyphic instead of the Greek alphabet as a nod to its origin.

Alpha (UK) variant (88.48%) and 348 Delta cases (8.32%).
This UK variant which is currently 10 times worse in Thailand and now sadly killed over one thousand Thais, spread a lot quicker.
The Thais, for whatever reason, be it genetics or diet or something else proved themselves to be very resistant to the Wuhan variant.
The English variant has ripped through many countries killing hundreds of thousands.
I am hoping the Thais are also fairly resistant to the Indian variant also. It is looking fairly positive with the cases in the hundreds or thousands, and not tens of hundreds of thousands and only a handful of deaths.
The overall numbers are bad in India currently but proportionally if you take population size into consideration the British strain is many, many times worse.
The Indian strain now spreading rapidly through England, who seem hell bent on sticking to their planned reopening dates and ignoring the medical advice, and who have a large percentage of people already vaccinated, I am fearful of a new British-Indian double mutant vaccine resistant strain developing there which will put the world back to where we were early last year.
It will devastate millions of businesses that managed to save, scrimp and battle through the last 18 months, could kill millions more people and go on for years to come.

I bring back car parts into Thailand everytime I return and also often get friends to being me car parts.
Never been an issue.
Due to covid I had to send some over by registered post and i was made to pay.
I have a mate who brought his whole Harley Davidson over in pieces over multiple plane trips and he also had no issues.

If you cannot go out and enjoy a drink in the evening what`s the point of opening up the place to tourists?
Muslims seem to cope alright.
I like a beer or 20 but I also like lazing around in 5 star resorts. The resort's will be selling booze for you to "enjoy" a drink.
Last thing Phuket needs is whoreds of mongers and irresponsible hookers all swapping bodily fluids and covid. Remember this current English strain that is causing us nearly all the problems now came in to Thailand with those partying government officials.
Some people after a few beers simply can't control themselves when they see a hot piece of a$$ selling themselves.
So they are designing the rules to keep them out and welcome the families and couples who are generally much better behaved and won't cause much trouble.
Very sensible move.

Here we go, it was only 6% a few days ago up to 8.32% now, worrying indeed.
I think the 88.48% of the UK Alpha British B117 Kent highly contagious English strain is more of a worry to me to be honest.
It has caused 90%+ of the deaths in Thailand.
Things would be very different in Thailand without it.
Take care mate.

Really ? so why are they still killing 100,000 of each other every 4 years ? I guess by your logic roads have gone up about the same as the driver IQ has gone down.
Listen pal, this thread is clearly about covid as our trainee m.......r @faraday has already pointed out.
the two are completely unrelated.
Your gripes are for another thread. I suggest you take some time out and use that time to read the rules that you agreed to when you you signed up here.

Please Robert, do try to adhere to forum rules.
Well I was replying to Richard who posted about the car crashes.
I was torn between ignoring him or going off topic but decided it would have been impolite not to respond.
But thanks for the advice you will make a good m.........r one day.
Take care

What about the Thai strain, the Thai authorities objected to it been called that, saying it came from Egypt. It's where it was discovered by sequencing, in Thailand. The Kent strain was discovered in Kent, could have originated anywhere, possibly Europe.
No they back traced the Kent strain which proved it originated in the UK.
The Thai strain was proven to come from Egypt.
I will stick with the facts.
Where are you from Pete?

Yes, mate well done Thailand - now they just have to worry about the 1000% more road deaths than the UK each year. 100,000 die in the UK in a once in a lifetime pandemic , whilst the same number die in thailand every 4 years through stupidity !
Well Dick, I think there is a little more to it than just "stupidity".
82% of Thai road deaths are on motorbikes which are way more common due to the differences in income/wealth and weather. Have a smash in your car, your car gets wrecked, have it on a motorbike and you get wrecked.
I think that is why you find the big difference.
I am not sure why English car manufacturers such as RR, Bentley, Jaguar etc produce cars that can go 250 kmh for public roads.
That is stupidity IMO. Can you explain that? It baffles me.
Anyway, things have vastly improved on the roads since I first came here in the 1970s. Road conditions, vehicle safety features, better helmets etc.
I wish them all the best with their continued development.

Try harder, you only managed to add the reference to the UK 3 times and British once. You can do much better than that give it a go!!
What do you want me and billions of others to call the Kent UK strain?
The Spanish flu?
It is what it is. Burying your head in the sand won't help. I see you don't object to the Indian strain, so I don't think you are from India, or the South African or Brazilian strain, but only the British strain being talked about.
Let me guess.
Anyway it is the English strain as the Thais call it, that is causing all the deaths here.
How does that make you feel?

do you have the numbers for people who have received both jabs in Phuket by any chance and what the percentage is of the population?
I don't have the exact numbers but almost all 60+ year olds I know in Phuket have had at least one, and many are going for their second next week. All health workers have already been done.
They are on track to have 70% done by August.
Sino for over 60s and AZ for under.
Australia has only vaccinated 2.5% so far.

No, Phuket has vaccinated a higher percentage of people than my country by far.
Vaccinated people generally are not tested.
The testing numbers are not that important, it is the death numbers. They are doing quite well.

Have to say they, while not doing a perfect job, have seemed to have struck a reasonable balance with this Alpha British strain.
Similar population to the UK but only about 1% of the deaths from this strain compared to the UK which has the advantage of being an island.
No deaths would be ideal, but 43 isn't too bad compared to the worst day in the UK which was 1,800 plus which is worse than the total for the entire time in Thailand. The vast majority of Thais who have succumb were old or overweight.
Let's hope they keep the numbers low and have success with the vaccine roll out and things can start getting back to relatively normal again.

If people show symptoms or have had contact with the infected they are tested.
Or are you saying that random people showing no symptoms should line up and get tested?
Have you been tested? If not, why not?
