i then answer it on the computer or divert it to my mobile which i have to pick up the cost but far cheaper than a normal phone call from a phone in the uk to a Thai mobile , if you do it this way you will have to keep topping up the credit on skype .OR you could try these number from a landline in the uk my mate uses these i think from memory to a Thai landline 2p per min to a mobile 3p per min ..the numbers 4 cheap calls to thailand r

  5. If you read this you'll see that living permanently in Thailand disqualifies you from receiving Child Benefit.

    good.

if you cant afford to bring children up then dont have them in the first place and then expect someone else to foot the bill.

first thing any brit does when hes short of a bob or two , is pop down the benefit office and see what freebies are available , never crosses their benefit dependant minds to go and look for gainful employmet , or in the posters case to get out of his hammock and back to blighty and actually work for 6 months.

a friend of mine could get it living in America as for taxexile if your entitled to it why not take it its far better going to the people who have paid in to it , than the Poles working in England and sending it back to there Family's how come they can get it ?, and its 1000 times bettere than giving it all to the Somali,s

  6. Our nieces are still using the N/W red card for withdrawals and as long as they take the dosh out of UOB atms they are still getting the whole transaction for FREE.

We are trying to open another couple of the same red debit cards but N/W rules state that its only for customers who dont meet the standard/basic requirements ...only for debits ...so looks like we will just continue with the one...MKjai.

I use the yellow cash point machine"s from memory I think bank of Ayudhya never been charged 150 baht

  7. Hi , a friend of mine has a food shop and has a seal a meal machine from America , can any one tell me if you can get replacement bags on a roll for them in Thailand if so where. Thanks in advance for your help

  8. I've got some files in .wmv format which I can play on the PC but I want to transfer them to a DVD or thumb drive so I can play them in my DVD player. For some reason, this format cannot be read by the DVD player which says it can play anything (but obviously cannot).

I'd prefer something free if possible.

I'm running Win Vista Home Premium 64 bit SP2 if that is important.

if you have nero 7 why not use that ,make my own DVD

  9. Here are a couple of 10,000 baht transactions from last month. One from Bank of Ayudhya (done as an experiment) to see if my bank would refund the 150 baht fee. The other is from GSB. I received a refund of the Visa international transaction fee on both, but was not refunded the Bank of Ayudhya 150 baht fee which they hid in the exchange rate (I suppose).

    atm2.jpg

as far as i know Bank of Ayudhya is now the only one that doe's not charge the fee , it never has done for me

They charged me. It was listed on the ATM receipt. Just look at the difference in the amount debited on those two transactions.

got 10 k out 3 hours ago no fee

  13. I get more UK TV than I can watch via P2P from two sites totally dedicated to UK telly. We don't have a particularly reliable or fast connection but most popular stuff is available within an hour or two of broadcast, download overnight, watch in the evening on return from work :)

    Both are totally FREE!

Don't play the 'copyright' card, it's just as illegal to use a VPN to bypass the iplayer country lock :D

Please do tell what are the sites then as it will save me paying :D

you can use uk nova or the box to download but you have to register and upload as well fast downloads

  14. A 13 year old and a 29 year old, regardless of gender combination, in the Kingdom of Thailand, is illegal.

Whether the combo of male-male, male female, or female-female, it is illegal.

    When in Rome and all.

Nothing here should be condoned, and certainly as many posters have suggested it should not be encouraged.

Maybe i am missing the point here ? what is illegal ? the age between the 2 people, the age of the boy. I find it hard to believe that when a girl of 13 and a boy of 15 get married in a village wedding just around the corner from where i live , I should be concerned about this teacher having sex with a young lad maybe the rules should be set in concrete . Thailand should have one set of rule's

  15. Dozens of Rohingya refugees were beaten and detained for hours by the Thai Navy on an Andaman Sea tourist island, in scenes that unfolded in full view of foreign holidaymakers.

Photographs of the December 23 incident in the Similan Islands were captured by Hong Kong-based tourist Andrew Jones.

Mr Jones, whose name has been changed for the purposes of this article, described how guards armed with M-16 rifles forced the refugees to lie face down in the sand for at least two hours, then ''whipped'' them about the head with a strap if they tried to sit up or move. The refugees were naked to the waist and bound at their wrists.

Some tourists appeared oblivious to the scenes just metres away, continuing to snorkel and sunbathe. Others who were shocked by the treatment of the men and tried to photograph the incident had their cameras snatched away by angry guards, who deleted the images.

Full story and tourist photos of the incident at Phuketwan, and also appearing in the South China Morning Post this morning.

    from The daily mail

Thai Army tows refugees out to sea

Hundreds of refugees left to die after 'being towed out to sea and abandoned by Thai army'

These are the tragic pictures that show hundreds of refugees being pulled out to sea on motorless boats before being abandoned by the Thai army.

Pressure has mounted on the government to come clean after the images, released by CNN, appear to confirm allegations of a Thai operation to evict Burmese refugees.

But the Thai government's chief spokesman has declined immediate comment on the Rohingya, a Muslim minority who have fled decades of persecution at the hands of Burma's military rulers into neighbouring Bangladesh.

CNN however claim it obtained the pictures from a source involved in an 'on-going operation' by the army to tow Burmese refugees out to sea.

The channel interviewed a Rohingya man captured on a remote Thai island in the Andaman Sea, who claimed he had been on one of six boats that arrived in December carrying the migrants from the northwest of neighbouring Burma.

The boats were towed back out to sea in January but five of them sank, the visibly distressed man said in a mixture of broken English and sign language.

'All men ... dead,' said the man, identified as Iqbal Hussein, corroborating other survivors' reports of boats cut adrift without engines and hundreds of migrants left to die.

More than 230,000 are now in Bangladesh, according to the United Nations refugee agency, and tens of thousands more have fled. Many have ended up in Malaysia.

Rohingya rights groups and survivors who washed up on India's Andaman Islands and Aceh in Indonesia in the last four weeks say 992 migrants were towed out in two separate episodes in December.

Of the 992, 550 are thought to be missing, feared drowned.

The army colonel at the centre of the abuse allegations has denied any wrongdoing, saying the migrants were given food and water and helped on their way after Thai villagers repaired their boats.

Manat Kongpan denied any wrongdoing and questioned the veracity of the CNN report and the pictures.

He said: 'It looks like there might be on-going efforts to discredit Thailand,'

'The NGOs (non-governmental organisations) are maybe trying to launch a campaign to put pressure on Thailand to open a refugee camp for the Rohingyas which, from our point of view, is not possible.'

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has promised a full investigation, but he has also issued a blanket denial, on behalf of the military, of any abuse.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said last week it believed 126 other Rohingyas were still in Thai military custody, but it has got nowhere with a formal request lodged six days ago with the government to see them.

Fears are growing that they, too, might have been forced into boats and dumped at sea.

"We don't know where they are," UNHCR spokeswoman Kitty McKinsey said.

Six boats without engines were towed out to sea this month but five of them sank

If your name is on the birth certificate you should not need it to get your extension Bangkok. They have been reported to issue parent extensions with no problems. Just show up with all your paperwork your childs mother and your child. Show them that you are living as a family.

when i called Bangkok , to see if i could obtain this visa there ,they told me i had to apply for it in mylocal office in Surin .

  17. Hi,

    here is an interesting proposal...

My wifes sister (thai national) is currently in a relationship with a Polish man who is resident in the UK. She is resident in Thailand. She comes here on a visitor visa (she has been before so should get this visa). While she is here she applies for a schengen visa and travels to Poland and marries him. She then applies for a visa under the EEA family visa scheme to stay here, in the UK.

    Would that work ?

    Just an idea.

    SAM

Just because she has been b4 doe's not mean she will be allowed another visa, I remember a few years back a woman from Cambodia, I think. Her sister had been to England b4 but she wanted her to come back for her 50th birthday, the lady in England had a good job meeting VIP'S from airctraft at Heathrow also vouched for her sister showed them return flight' ticket ,but would they let her come ( No )

  18. Like the topic says...I love my Thai wife. We've only been married a year. She is young, beautiful, fun to be around, and I think she loves me too. There is only one thing wrong. I miss Pattaya too much. I miss the beaches, warm weather, bar hopping, flirting with the bar girls, looking at all the beautiful Thai girls, getting drunk, and I must say, the feeling of power I get knowing I'm a rich falang (actually, I'm just your average American, but in Pattaya I feel like a superstar). My wife doesn't want me to go because she thinks I will cheat on her and she knows how drunk I get when I'm in Pattaya. I've assured her I will never cheat on her, I just want to go to have fun. Of course, I can go if I want, but it will hurt her feelings. I don't want to hurt her, but I'd like to go again someday. What's a guy to do?

I love my Thai wife. We've only been married a year. She is young, beautiful, fun to be around, and I think she loves me too. so why do you not want to stay with her when you are here ,forget the story's there are quite a few girls who will not rip you off and mean what they say ,the ones i can make out who slag the girls off are the ones who did not have a brain

and may be have a grudge be cause of there own stupidity , how can you say what you say if you love her ?,you do not have power over here with out your wife looking after you espically when you are pissed ,you are a fool , if you stay in pattaya to long without some one to look after you you will not be a rich falang to long , i guess you should listen to her if you love her , before you get to drunk and your power dissapears and some kaytoy is giving you one god bless dimwit
