  1. Lots of good answers here, thanks a lot!

@OneMoreFarang Good point, that's what I have in mind - be able to put  stuff into the sacks, take my girlfriend with me occasionally. Someone mentioned that Z300 has a more upright position, unlike CB300R, it's also 2 cylinder. I've read a lot of reviews and apparently it's ok for long trips, etc.

Many people also suggested buying a bike which is not older than 2-3 years and doesn't have more than 10-20k mileage.

  2. Thanks a lot! I was also checking Honda CB300R, I can get 2 - 3 years old ones for 80-90k, so cheaper than ninjas. As far as I know, ninja has sporty position so it could be difficult in longer trips.

@richard_smith23I have work permit so Certificate of Residence shouldn't be necessary. But how do I transfer the bike on my name if the seller provides the Green Book? I will need to go to DLT with a bike owner, verify the Green Book first, and then transfer my name to it? I don't need a driver license to do that, right?

  3. Well, thanks for the answer, if it matters - 27 years old, I only made ~2000km on automatic/semi bikes in Asia (+ very short training on driving manual bike), and I certainly do have a living will now that we are allowed to buy alcohol again ???? Health coverage, I have it from my work but I'd buy additional for motorbike accidents for sure. So I would basically use it to slowly keep getting experience.

  4. Hey, I live in Bangkok and I'm planning to buy my first "big bike", mostly for weekend trips around here and for going around the city sometimes... in the far future I'd like to take it abroad and make a bigger trip as well. Anyway, my perfect budget would be max 60k baht, but I could do 70-90k if necessary.

After doing a lot of research apparently ninja kawasaki 250 or 300 would be perfect (that's also the engine capacity I'm looking for).

    A few questions:

    - Is my budget enough to get a solid 2nd hand bike like this?

    - What to watch out for when buying a second hand bike? I found many forums on facebook where people or companies sell ninjas, just as an example I recently found one for 59,000 baht, from 2014, with 26,xxx miles on it. New ones are around 150k I think. What should I choose so it will not break at some point?

    - Is it ok to get a green book on my name if I don't have a driving license yet? I want to make one but the department of land transportation is still closed this month.

Any suggestions from more experienced people would be really welcomed ???? Thanks!

  5. I have a Polish car license (B), it should be valid for 125cc as well (A1 and A2 I think), but I paid once 500 baht already in Chiang Mai, so apparently it's not valid, haha. I will take 2 days off and make a Thai driving license when they open land transport department again.

  6. Hey. I plan to buy a big bike around 250-500cc and make a license on it in Bangkok (I just have a car license so far). I never drove on a manual bike before, but a lot on automatic/semi-automatic. Now there is not so much traffic jam so it could be a good time to practice driving around on a manual. And I have to wait until they open the land transport department anyway (it's closed now apparently). Once I got a "fine" for not having the license in Chiang Mai, it was 500 baht, is it the same in Bangkok? Is it a good idea, or are there better ways to learn how to drive? Making a license doesn't require taking any lessons here, like it normally happens in the west.

  7. Hey. I've been checking superrich exchange places but they all seem to be closed now. They have some announcement on their website but it's a .jpeg in Thai so I cannot translate it :p And since THB is dropping fast, it's probably a good idea to change it now to some more stable currency before it drops even further. What's the best way to exchange money now? Thanks.

  8. Hi. I'm getting the non-b visa soon and apparently the embassy requires a document that I have more than 20k baht on my foreign bank account - the thing is that I don't have enough time to get a proper document from the bank translated to English - I can only get some PDF from the bank website with my name on it and the account balance along with it. Is that enough, or does the embassy require some special form of this document? How does it look like?

  9. Hi! I found a job in Thailand and Im applying for a visa, but obviously there are some steps in the middle. As far as I understand:

    1. The employer needs to get the letter from immigration and I need to apply for a non-b visa with that and all my documents outside of Thailand

    2. Then I can apply for a work permit in the country already

Can I already start working after getting the non-b visa from the 1. point?

Is the rejection rate high? I have over 4 years of experience (IT) with all references and certificates for it but I dont have a bachelor degree (only high school diploma and a certificate that I dropped out from studying computer science at university after 3 years without getting a diploma).

If I get the non-b visa but they reject the work permit application, can I still work for those 3 months of non-b visa validity?

    Thanks a lot!

  10. As an update - I found another company who checked my papers, and they told me the same thing. Basically - bachelor degree is not required to get the WP, but 4 years of experience is not enough in such case. Apparently I need more work experience than that because now the risk of the WP rejection is too high (for the companies I found at least).

  11. It was quite a long interview, I had to implement a small project and we had 2 technical interviews, it was all good all the time, they also seemed quite happy that I managed to shorten my notice period and start in July. I was supposed to be a senior developer there, Im not sure what could have went wrong.

I didnt talk with the manager, only with:

    - one dev

    - one team lead

    - one hr girl

    - one hr manager about the offer

    - one lawyer who told me about the visa problem at the end

They seem to be a startup, but already have 400 people, seems quite legit actually, looking at their linkedin.

  12. God dammit, thats a big surprise for me, thank you very much for the answers.

Hm, they basically told me they consulted with their lawyers after receiving my documents, and they said there is a very high chance it will be rejected because of no diploma, and hence they dont want to even try. I tried to give them my high school diploma and job references as well, but they say its impossible anyway. So it might just be an excuse for them not to hire me?

  13. Hi! I found a company in Bangkok, they told me I dont need a degree to get the work permit, I signed their offer, resigned from my job... and then they told me that the degree is apparently required and they withdraw from the offer, eh :d I plan to spend 2 - 3 months in Bangkok now to look for a nice project back in Europe, but:

I work in IT, I have 5 years of documented experience, I also have a document that I studied at a university for 3 years, just without getting a bachelor degree. I also have work experience in two different countries. Does that still disqualifies me to get the work permit? Do I really have to enroll to a university and spend 3.5 years getting a bachelor before I can start legally working in Thailand?

Thanks a lot for any answers, and welcome - its my first post here! :-)
