a friend of mine just drove from chiangkhong to houayxai via the friendship bridge to laos - everything is the same procedure as more than 2 years ago - only a "s.h.y..t.t..y" temp-check was done - nothing more! took about 2.5 hours - thai and laos immi custom etc! Visa on Arrival for 40 us - some countries get 15 days free exemption (e.g. Switzerland)

-15 years old to 60. (I think this may have recently changed to 65 years old, need to check)
i suspect that the hill tribe people in thailand have these id cards!

You transport entering by land is not required for a Thailand Pass. Select by land here on the the Thailand Pass for more info. https://tp.consular.go.th/
Choose no quarantine or quarantine and you will find a drop down menu to choose the border crossing you will be using on the registration page.
thanks @ubonjoe - where in laos we can do a COVID-19 RT-PCR? or is a ATK-test good enough? we will not pass vientiane or luangprabang or other big cities/villages in laos!

very interesting contributions - thank you very much everyone - here is also a message, but not so positive -

I'm waiting for reports from travelers by motorbike or car to laos and from laos back to thailand. how do i apply for a "thaipass" if i want to return to thailand from laos by land, i.e. with my own car? what are the rules currently (10.5.22) for entering thailand by land - haven't found anything online yet!
it would also be interesting to know which borders are open overland to laos and from laos back to thailand - for example huay xai to chiang khong in the north and many more! -
It's not necessarily about the cost of motor oil - but if I can save money with motor oil, I can buy more noodle soups, which are known to only cost around 25 to 50 baht! and noodle soups also support MY body-engine for quite a while!

When I next renew my Drivers and Motorcycle licence I will need two Affirmation of Residence documents from the Embassy - For this I will need to make an appointment (usually two weeks ahead) then pay about 5000 baht for both documents.... OR, I can use my Yellow Tabien House Book.
oh - so i am lucky - i can get my confirmation of residence at the local I/O - or i can order and pay it online at my embassy!
i live already more then 30 years without this yellow book and pink id-card - and i hope to live another 30 years without that! ????
i thought, it will be easy today - but it seems at my amphoe (ฉันไม่ต้องการที่จะบอก) so i will live without! thanks anyway for all the helpful informations pro or contra!- 1

My advice to anyone is not to bother unless you have time to spare, when it can be quite fun getting the Yellow Book. You might not ever need it.
YES!!! you are right! thanks - went to the amphoe again this morning - with the google-translated stamp from my 1-year-visa ???? - this is ok the "officer" told me - BUT you must also translate the passport (name etc. etc.) and so on...! no thanks - i will NOT do that! - story over - enjoy hassle-free life live - no yellow book - no problems! ????

I/O at Chiang Rai told me that it was important that I had one
yes - i went to ask today I/O at chiangrai office - they told me the same and they told me they never ever heard that the visa-stamp must be translated in thai! nobody would translate it for me!
they gave me a phone-number office at maesai - if the "important uncle" at the amphoe not will do it, he must call I/O maesai! they will explain to him!
and - tessaban here in our village works at the amphoe!
so i hope will get this magic yellow book on friday! will keep you informed! ????
and thanks again to all posters for the very useful informations! -

Its clear from a number of threads on this very subject that the requirements to apply for the Yellow Tabien Baan house book at each Amuphur office around Thailand varies. Some are a lot easier than others which require quite a lot of paper work:
thanks for this very useful informations!
another question - what is the advantage of this yellow book anyway? It doesn't make sense for me to sacrifice so much time and money for a document so that I might get a few baht discounts in the national park - maybe just, it doesn't seem to be accepted everywhere! i have had a thai driving license for years, which is usually enough - i'm more than 60 years old and speak a little thai too! ????

OP, are you sure its not a misunderstanding ? Often the ampher will want the 1st page of your passport translated (mainly to get your name in Thai), although each ampher can be different, translation of visa stamp isnt usually a requirement.
The witnesses are a usual requirement.
Pink ID is usually a 5 minute process after the yellow book,Photo and print card etc, its all the same information.
no - they asked only for the translation of this "immigration-1-year-visa-stamp" nothing more!
-
Went to Amphoe (Mae Chan - Chiangrai Province) today to apply for the yellow book (house registration book for "farangs")!
They asked me to translate the stamp of my 1 year visa in my passport (it's in English!) Into Thai!produced by a translation agency (travel agency or lawyer or similar)
and then for the application I need 2 witnesses and the Puyai-Baan, where I live, who have to sign for me!
does anyone have the same experience?
Thank you for any helpful advice!
When the yellow book is done I can apply for the Pink ID card for Farangs!

Doi Inthanon. 500 Baht for a foreigner, 20 Baht for Thai (or what it was)? No thanks. It's cold enough on my balcony in the morning. Wasn't there a discussion that foreign residents pay the same entry on National Parks as Thais. Any news about that?? Guess not...
yes - no news - farang pay farang - thai pay thai - ???? - my friend just drove in today - he lives already more then 10 years in thailand, married with thai - driving license thai - yellow book - no way! - 300 baht for him (german/farang!) and 30 baht for his wife (thai)! - for me a reason not to visit! i am too proud or not stupid enough ???? - it was some years ago a simply trick, when you drive in from the west on the 1192 (from mae chaem) - you pass the checkpoint and you have not to pay! - looks on streetview google maps still the same today!
