I live in my own condo when in Thailand and yesterday I managed to sign up on the TM30 online on immigrations website (horrible layout by the way and back to the 90`s feeling on that one) with a confirmation message that everything was accepted and that I would receive a confirmation email of some sorts.

That was yesterday and still as of today I haven't received anything.

How long does it take for that first email to be sent out?

And no, nothing in the spam folder and yes, the email was entered correct.

I've just passed the 4 week mark. Have seen some comments here saying it's taking up to six weeks..

  2. I'm not sure what all the fuss is here. The Thai import personal limit of approximately US$600 is 50% more than the US limit of $400. Doesn't every country limit how much you can bring back home with you? Technically this should be applied to Thais coming home. As a foreigner coming in, I'm not sure how it applies, but typically common sense should prevail, not many travelers need 50 or 100 of anything while traveling. It also seems like we are talking about "New" items, not used items. As far as determining "value", if you retain your sales receipts, this should certainly help determine the value of an item. Exception of course is if you are attempting to bring something in illegally. All in all, it seems like a lot of tadu about nothing .

The older you get, the less of importance it is. To me, like this afternoon, I watched my wife and my mother engage in a conversation about death. My Grandmother died a very slow death. My wife spoke about the Buddhist principles of death and of the funerals in depth. To watch the connection my elderly mother and my wife had, was to me priceless. I still get plenty of sex but realistically, I prefer a good meal, close conversation with her and time with my family. And yes, you can get all of this from a Thai if you choose carefully. Sex is not that important. Like I said, if you are compatible it all comes together.

    Amen.

Our 41st anniversary is coming up in October.  Every year I have to remind her  ... usually a week later, 555.

I was a Peace Corps Volunteer recently out of college and had no money.  She had no particular desire to come to the USA.  We made it work. Choose wisely and roll with the punches.  Communication was often difficult, even though I spoke some Thai and she later learned fairly good English.  But communicating subtleties was a chore.  Perhaps it was more the respective mindsets and background.

Still a happy couple in 2019.  (Well, it was at a Memorial Day ceremony and our oldest son was killed in Iraq.)

Anyway, marriage isn't always a walk in the park and the cross-cultural aspect can severely try one's patience. Jai Yen Yen.

    Congratulations!! And my condolences...

  5. I'm going on 23 years, so I guess that's a new record. Snippits of advice.... FWIW, if the woman you're considering marrying needs money every other day, for services rendered or family or, or, or... she's not the one to marry. Most Thai women worth marrying are tighter with your money than you are. She's building a future and no one, not even family will get that from her. My wife has been great and I truly do feel extremely lucky to have found her. She spoke no English and my Thai was limited at best. We learned from each other and now do very well. Had two American wives previously (no, not at the same time) and as far as I'm concerned a good , loyal Thai wife cannot be beat!

are you sure you did the TM30 online and not the 90 day report?

if i do tm30 online i never get the status "pending" ...

the tm30 online website has changed the last few months, i think

they continuously try to improve the website ...

I'm the same except registering my wife's house. Did the whole online application, got the email confirmation within an hour, and now registration is pending. It's only been 5 working days, and the online reply said can take up to 7 working days.. Hopefully will complete soon.

I just did it a few months ago. Process was really easy and painless. The instructions on the embassy website are very complete. When I went in they hole punched my old passport and stamped it cancelled. Then gave it back to me. I opted to have the new passport sent EMS to me. Arrived in two weeks. You get the envelope and pre pay postage right there as part of the process. There were a few people who asked for pick up at the embassy. If you tell them you will be traveling outside Thailand during the renewal time they wont stamp cancel on your passport. But then you would have to come in when the new one gets there and then they stamp it cancelled. They also give you a paper to take to immigration to help facilitate the visa transfer to your new passport. Whole process pretty pain free.

I think the by mail way is if you want to do it that way. You can still make an appointment for passport services other than adding pages and go in and do it. The same info was available when I did my stuff.

Ditto for me. I've renewed mine twice here and just as you stated. Although first time was in person at embassy as online wasn't available then.

That was not a law. It states regulation but actually it is a new requirement put out by Chaeng Wattana immigration and only applies there.

Pardon me for believing what I read... " new regulations regarding the Notification of Residence of Foreigners (TM30) that went into immediate effect on March 28, 2019 ". My mistake. My only point in the entire post was that the online systems seem to work for me.

The law on TM30 requirements went into effect in 1979.

Section 38 of the Immigration Act.

It just hasn't been enforced until recently at some IO's.

I have no idea which law you are referring to that became active 28/3/19.

https://www.dejudomlaw.com/asean-today-march-2019/ scroll down to the Thailand Legal Review section. That's where I got it. Downloaded from this site. I've lived here since 1994 and this is the first time I've heard of the TM30.

  10. I've been doing the 90 day online reporting since its inception (a year or two ago?). Only issue has been the system being down (often). Wait a day or two and it works. Very simple and straight forward. I get the approval, print the form and put it in my passport after removing the old one. For me it has been quite simple and straight forward. Just now getting started on the TM30 as I've just found out about it thanks to thaivisa.com. I've done the house registration online and now waiting for the approval, which they say may take up to 7 business days. Following that approval I'll register myself in the house. Since the law just went into effect on March 28, 2019, logically, I should not be subject to the fine as my last entry into Thailand was some three years ago. But I'm confident "Logic" will not prevail.  ????

  11. I've got another question about this topic. I live with my legal Thai wife in her home. I do my 90 day reports religously. Is she supposed to do this TM-30 report or is that only if she's renting to a non-related foriegner? We been here for thw last 19 years and have never heard anything about the TM30 until yesterday while reading this thread.
