  1. Indians don't tend to stay long. Thai holidays are already not cheap for indians. Thanks to the weak indian rupee.

I can't imagine an indian family staying for a month in Thailand. On the other hand it will give flexibility to those who tend to stay 2 weeks on voa but will end up staying for 3 if visa exempt means 30 days visa free entry.

But in my opinion most indians stay upto a week and go back to India.

The difference is in the UK it is an open society, he can get a Visa and work, unlike in Thailand where most professions are reserved for Thais. Why is this? Are Thais not the most intelligent, hard working, moral and educated people in the world. I am Jewish and most Thais did not know what a Jew is? This amazed me, their education must be so inward thinking to Thailand. Lesson number 1 "How to make a baby buffalo"

Thais know only a few countries.

    Farang

    Arab

    Indians

    ????????????????

They know a fourth one too. Dum dum. But I think it's an abusive term for people who hail from Africa. Sorry for my ignorance.

Cannot work for Free in Thailand, still need work permits

Ain't it stupid. these young backpackers especially young Western males and females would work really hard to teach kids some English.

No matter they have a college degree or not? If they come from an English speaking country they can teach basic English. I understand in cambodia they are doing it as a volunteer work.

Something thais can learn from their darker skinned neighbours.

I knew an English teacher she was Thai and worked in some collage up in Loei and she spoke with this awful American accent I felt sorry for her students and she couldn't understand me properly had to talk slow, Im English

I remember a thai teacher from Bangkok , who offered to be my girlfriend  at a salary of 20000 thb every month. So if the teachers are like this what values are they imparting in young pupils. No wonder there is never a shortage of girls in bars.

No..they don't even get many backpackers anymore for the simple reason that the "backpacker" culture is fading fast in Thailand and not in favour anyway.

Backpackers teach for free to the Cambodian children and they work really hard. May be Thailand is missing on something. Why dont same young Western backpackers teach thai kids for free?

Although English is the language of business, law and government in India, their spoken English is often abysmal. Written English very good although often too flowery and complicated just to show off.

I lived there for 2 years and the standard of spoken English just isn't consistent. Different pronouncing, diction, strong regional accents, inflections and a very different range of figures of speech.

Just watch BBC World Service where some of the Indian reporters are barely understandable because of their accents; or call centers located in India.

Filipinos and Filipinas are mostly the same. Only American English, with American / Philippine cross accents. And many, IME, can't spell and have poor grammar.

Having said all of that some of the British, Canadian and South African teachers that have taught my kids leave a lot to be desired when it comes to English language.

India has a lot of languages with different dialects so the influence of the mother tongue would be present.

They need to be taught bilingually, where they are taught science, maths or a couple important subjects in English. Just having a few English lessons a week is not enough. It needs to be 50/50 if you want good English speakers.

Howcome Scandinavians can speak English almost perfectly?

In india, there are English medium schools wherein all text books are in English and medium of instruction is English.

The state run schools have the local state language as a medium of instruction plus English as a subject.

Generally the students from English medium school have good command over English .

I agree that if English is taught from the beginning and important subjects are in English it would be better for the children.

    you want no-shaking thai kids?

Unfortunately thai people link a person's character with the skin colour. Indian tend to have a darker skin tone. Thai parents and recruiters won't be comfortable letting an Indian teach their kids.

Pinoys are more racially closer to them and a cheaper choice than farangs.

Even though so many Indians are teaching variety of subjects in western universities.

  9. Jokes apart guys. let me tell you all a story. Few years ago I met a bar girl. After a few drinks she told me that won't be working here for long.she just quickly want to earn 300000 baht to pay off family's debt and go back being a nurse.

I suggested her to go to an Arab country as there is a huge demand plus good salary. Lot of filipinas work as nurses in Arab world.

She told me that her English is poor and she won't get the job.she went further to say that how thai people are poor in English and cannot get a job abroad.

Now link it to the topic.if this girl had a farang English teacher back in school she won't be working in a bar and rather go to some arab country and work as a nurse.  A decent and respectable job.

    Why not ?

The member's username has lira in it which makes me feel he is from turkey , Syria or Lebanon or may be some other conflict zone in the Arab world.

A normal thai girl would not like to live permanently in the Arab world with all those restrictions to female freedom and identity.

If the job conditions were so great in his country why would he be working illegally in Thailand.

It all depends on his female partner how strong and dedicated she is in regards to the relationship. A good thai lawyer might help but that costs a lot of money.

Also the poster did say that I/o back home said about 99yr ban.  The gf should pursue the matter with immigration to check the exact status and options he has. Thais generally go soft when a kid is involved.

  11. What does your girlfriend say about all this? Is she really worried now?

What are the odds of taking her and your child in your home country and getting married to her as per your religious customs and getting the marriage registered with competent authorities. This should ensure a long term visa for your wife and about the child.

I might sound dumb but do you have the birth certificate of your child and does it mention your name . This might help you in case you want to pursue the matter with the local Thai embassy.

You first need to talk clearly to your girlfriend and explain to her that it's not possible for you now to live in Thailand. She must move to your country and get married or you can find a job in neighbouring countries like cambodia, Vietnam ,Laos, Myanmar , Malaysia etc.

Flight fares are generally affordable and she can meet you often.
