  1. What does anyone know of KIS over near Ming Jai (not sure of spelling)?

    Thanks,

    Dr. B

What do you want to know Dr B?

It offers the PYP, MYP and DP programmes from the IB curriculum. Great facilities, great teachers, great kids... great school in my opinion... I highly recommend it... am a little bit biased, but I've worked at many schools that I would never recommend (one of them mentioned in this thread!). KIS is not one of them. It's a really neat school and is only getting stronger and stronger.

  2. Hi all...

am planning a little trip and would love some thoughts from folks in the know...

I am planning on crossing back into Thailand at Chiang Khong and then I'd like to get to Pai.

How long does it take to get to Chiang Rai from Chiang Khong (are there lots of regular bus departures?)? From Chiang Rai I was thinking of renting a car to drive to Pai, spend a few days there and then drive to Chiang Mai to return the car - I need to find a bigger rental company that will allow me to do this... I would have liked to skip Pai and make it to MHS but I don't think I will have time. I will be in Chiang Khong on the afternoon/evening of a Thursday and then fly out of Chiang Mai the following Tuesday... thoughts or suggestions would be awesome!

    Thanks

  3. Just a quick question about when it will all start up? The official days are from the 13th right? Just trying to coordinate a trip, only want to be in CM for a couple of days of Songkran mayhem - will it be kicking off (water throwing and the like) in the days before the 13th?

  4. If you want a good job, pleasent surroundings, nice wax, discrete service etc etc you might need to pay close to 2000 baht... I always go to Ananda Spa on Suk 11.. it is pricey, but they make you feel like a princess..

The cheapest I know of are places on Khao Sahn road... dirt cheap.. 80 baht for eyebrows, maybe 300 baht for bikini? But don't expect anything fancy! I was taken into the waxing room and there was my mate, she was having her bikini done.. legs a kimbo... everything out for the world to see!

  5. You could try Clarks at Central World. At the moment they have a table with shoes that are BIG SIZES for 1000baht.... I think it's on the same level as NEXT, a few stores to the right of it (either that or in the same place but a floor below!)

  6. I like Clarks for good quality shoes that are nice enough to wear to work, Birkenstocks are fantastic casual sandals (there's a little shop directly opp Samitivej Hospital on Suk 49), but Crocs, while being almost unsightly, are without doubt the most comfortable shoes on the market. You can get a good range so you don't have to go for the huge clog like design - but I would!

I was not happy with Scholl - only had them about 3 months before they started to wear away

I agree with Donna, Naturaliser are comfy and last a good while, I just haven't found a design that I like in a while... too chunky on the heel for my liking....

  7. Yep, think there was a big thread going on about this.... anyway, to save you searching I recommend the place under the California Wow on Suk 23 - just head downstairs from the front as if you are going to Planet Yoga, I can't remember the name....

  8. Food Glorious Food is on Suk 71, about soi 35 I think (it's a fair distance from Suk) - I agree with bkkmick as being a great place for deli style foods. They have a good selection of Aussie and Kiwi imported products as well as lots of other stuff... their website is informative

    Food Glorious Food

  9. the other day at one of those stalls for 'big' sized clothes, the assistant took a guess at what size I am and shoved a size 24 skirt in my face .... absolutely no clue whatsoever as I am a size 14-16!!! I have been shown the most hideous clothes numerous times almost as if they automatically think 'fat' means ugly!

Oh yes! I have experienced this also... went shopping for bathers, i'm about a size 14 and don't mind wearing a bikini when I am at the beach but when I asked the shop assistant for bathers in my size I was shown the most hideous selection! knee length, flouro colours, thick nasty spandex, frilly skirt, shoulders covered, zipped front... nasty!!!! :o

In response to the OP I think you should go for it, while La Sanza has bras and knickers that fit the service is poor and I would never feel comfortable having a bra fitting with any of their sales staff. If you could offer professional bra fitting services and maybe even a good selection of fancy intimate apparel (along the lines of Anne Summers?) I think you would do great... I'd be there for sure! Good Luck with it!

  10. if the 24 seater bus is reputable then you can book it at any travel agent in the kao san road area :o saying that why not fly down and bus back, that way you can ask for yourself the best buses to get from other farangs.maybe u havnt over spent and can fly back as well ,the bus is a nightmare 12 hours uncomfortable the plane is 45 mins on the jet :D

I'll miss a day if I take the bus back, need to be back at work on Monday so it works out better to bus down weds night then fly back late on Sunday.

I think I will go with sbk's advice and head over to the bus terminal to pick up a ticket, I think you are right, its the 999 company. I've been with them before, seats are big and comfy enough (not difficult to find something to help you sleep!) and your stuff is safe in the holds below the bus - and you don't need to wake up until you are well and truly on the boat.

Thanks for all your help everyone :D

  11. I am planning on a trip down to Ko Phan Ngan in a couple of weeks and to cut costs I plan on taking the bus down (then flying out of Samui on the return leg). I want to travel on the 24 seat VIP bus that leaves from the Southern Bus Terminal and takes you all the way to the ferry and then over to the island. Does anyone know if I can book 4 seats in advance? Also can I get them from a ticket office so that I don't have to head all the way to the Southern Bus Terminal?

  12. You could try Emporium - I was really surprised when I went shopping there for a bikini last week. They seem to have made some "big" improvements lately. The Guy Laroche (sp?) and the Jantzen brands go up to about 3-4XL, they don't mix and match so you will possibly end up with bottoms that don't fit. I am not sure if the 4XL is a DD or not, but it might be worth checking it out...

For M & S I think the best one now is at Central World, in fact I think the best of everything is there now. I'm a UK size 14 and for 3 years have struggled to get clothes, bras, shoes everything! Central World seems to have loads - check out LeSanza for underwear (they might have bathers also?), Next for reasonably priced (cheaper than Marks and Sparks) clothes for work and clarks for UK size 8 shoes!!!

HMMMM, sorry if I sound like a walking advert!

  13. my mates go to Clay Play Studio, it's run by a Japanese woman and her husband I think? They love it, and aparently the glazes that she makes up are awesome (it means nothing to me though!?) This is the one on Suk 26 and my workmates give it two thumbs up!

I just googled it and got

    Clay-Play Co., Ltd.

29 Soi Sukhumvit 26 Sukhumvit Road Khlongton Klongtoey Bangkok 10110 Thailand

    Tel : 662-204152-2662

    Fax : 662-204-1519

Not sure how up to date that it though.... I should be working now so I wont go and ask them if the details are correct right now, but I will get back to you....

  14. Interesting to see that no one has mentioned depilatory crèmes.

My (Thai) girlfriend insists they just don't work for her (I mention that she's Thai just in case the tendency for thicker hair is a reason for the failure) so we resort to shaving – which makes for interesting foreplay so I have absolutely no complaints about that!

Just wondered if the ladies on here agree that crèmes do not really do the job – at least in that area?

    Patrick

Maybe need to leave longer, as thicker/darker hair takes longer to eradicate with these products.

yeah I agree with leaving it for longer. I like the Veet brand that you can get in Aus but when I run out I turn to the boots brand and I need to leave that on for a much longer time than it recommends. In fact I usually always go over the "never leave it on for more than 10 minutes" time frame. The boots brand has nothing on Veet in my opinion.

  15. It doesn't matter how careful or slowly you drive - someone else will hit you.... Everyday I think about taking my motorbike to work and then I think "is today the day some truck driver wont see me?"

It really is bloody dangerous - be super super careful and be aware of the crazy drivers around you. I would say that 9 times out of 10 it is the other drivers that cause the accidents. At least get yourself a good helmet from a proper motorbike supplies shop - don't leave your brain to be protected by a 30 dollar tesco bargain.....

  16. Every now and then I come across a taxi that hasn't taken out the belts - I make a fuss putting it on and give the driver a good tip (I make sure he knows he's getting the tip because of the belts in the back). I hope that I am encouraging one driver at a time to keep the belts where they are..... or maybe I am dreaming!

  17. always looking for someone i can really trust with my hair. I think that is why i usually only get hair cuts 2 times a year. How much is toni and guy? I wouldn't mind trying there next.

I went to Toni and Guy at Siam Discovery Centre. I had a pretty massive haircut - probably had 15cm taken off and have had it styled in a nice short (cool!) style. They were really good, spoke through their ideas and suggestions etc before making any moves. I have heard that they are pretty good with colouring as well. I went with Top Stylist as that is who was available at the time (I walked in as it was an impulse decision!) - 1500 baht + tip....

  18. yeah i agree - and i would really like to know where that orangutan came from.... mother shot out of a tree and then sold to the zoo as a baby perhaps? of course i am totally making that up - but it happens WAY too often in these parts of the world.... Wildlife Friends of Thailand for some great educational resources and info about the illegal wildlife trade in Thailand.
