  1. if you are willing to fork out a little bit of cash then i would say Toni and Guy at Siam Discovery centre - I doubt that razored designed would be what they do everyday but I am sure they would get it right... English is spoken very well and the amount you pay depends on how experienced the cutter is....

  2. Just hoping to get some advice from folks who've been there and done that....

I've got two weeks holiday in April and i was thinking of going to Vietnam. I want to keep costs low and so I though about flying into Hanoi and then heading south crossing to Cambodia and flying out of there. (Air Asia flies to both places)

Or I thought about two weeks up and around the north of vietnam, or two weeks in the south (including Phenom Phen)... anyone know about the weather in April? Time frames needed for Vietnam etc etc... advice greatly apreciated!

    Cheers

  3. How do I drive there? I am picking up a rental car from Victory Monument and I've heard that I just need to get on the expressway from there. Anyone know the signs I need to follow? i'll be fine once they start saying Hua Hin but I don't think they do this close to Bangkok! I leave tonight so any help would be great!! :o

  4. I have had a big discussion about this with my students (11 -12 year olds) who of course think it was

perfectly acceptable to walk off as the umpire was cheating - he was malaysian and he was getting back at thailand because they lost to them earlier in the tournament - was a comment from one boy.

Professional athletes my butt - an absolute disgrace. Action should be taken and they should follow with a huge fine and an apology.

  5. leanster, do you have a teaching qualification? you would find it easier getting a job if you did, as many of the international schools offer Spanish as a third language option... if you don't have a qualification you still might be able to hunt out these international school kids who might need extra tutoring....

  6. hi ya's im trying to find somewhere in or around pattaya where i might be able to purchase either nitro r/c monster truck/offroad buggy etc etc plus spare parts.. so inessence i would be looking for an R/C hobby store...

    cheers

I can't help you out in Pattaya but if you are ever in the big smoke you need to head to Sapan Lek - a small, crowded market not far from the Old Siam in the old city part of town... they've got everything you need with respect to r/c and more.....

  7. i found Pink Chilli really flexible and willing to arrange lessons to fit my schedule and they have created a really relaxed and friendly environment.

I had private lessons, paid up front for 15 hours so got them at 400 baht per hour. They have made their own books which we worked from as well as playing card games, watching Thai adverts (listening skills) and going out for lunch to order food, and describe scenes etc. There were some things in the book that i didn't want to focus on (words about business and companies for example) and they were more than happy to work on what I wanted to know.

Don't expect to be spoken to in English while in your lessons!!!! My teacher was adamant that she would only speak to me in Thai, frustrating on day one, but really satisfying by the end. The lessons certainly got better and better for me as my confidence improved and I realised pretty quickly that you really need to be prepared to just get in there and give it a go in order to get something out of it.

Drop them a line, Denise is really quick to get back to you on the email (although i think they are having a few days off for the holiday season).... they even offer free first lesson which is a bonus!

    :o:D

  8. so i went and did 15 hours of lessons this week with Pink Chilli Languages and it was great! A really neat learning environment, and I feel like I've come along leaps and bounds! I've been here 3 years so I've already got a good ear for the language but I can't believe how much I've come along this week.

there are so many words that were familiar to me but i never had the confidence to use them, a week of lessons has completely changed that....

Only tonight my beautiful husband to be had some friends over and I was joining in and starting conversations - I think he (Boyf) is petrified that he can't keep secrets from me now!!!!

I recommend Pink Chilli School (thread sponsor) to anyone keen to learn some more thai (ill be back next month to start on reading and writing)...

  9. I recommend Berlei sports bras, not sure ifyou can find them here though.... and I agree with Boo to make sure that your bra is a perfect fit. I went bra shopping last time I was at home (oz) and I bought 5 new bras, had them all fitted and all but two were different sizes - it all depends on the make/shape/style etc...

    Berlei Bras

  10. in my board shorts and bathers top and my broad aussie accent i doubt anyone is going to mistake me for a working girl!!!

seriously though, do any of the bigger name hotels charge a fee and allow people to come in and use their pools... nothing dodgy, i've just got two hours every day this week between morning and afternoon Thai language lessons to kill and I thought reading a book by a pool might be nice.....

  11. Anything is better than nothing at all. Can I just advise that you do your course after you come back from Aus.. This was you can continue practicing what you just learned. If you do it first you will probably lose most of it after a couple of weeks catch up in Australia..

    In The Rai! :o

i agree, this would be ideal. But the reason i have a week to play with is that my fiance is still working for that week adn then we go to aus for the remainder of our school holidays. my partner is thai so i will make a super effort to show off all my new skills with him while we are at home....

  12. I've got 3 week's holiday coming up, I will head home to Oz for two weeks over chrissy but was thinking of doing one week's worth of lessons at a language school here in bangkok. Is this going to be a waste of money? Will I get anything out of a one week semi intensive course?

I already speak a fair bit of the language but I am embarrassed that I don't know more. I will obviously contact the thread sponsor and ask them for advice, just wanted to open it up and see if anyone has anything to offer.... (including recommended schools)....

    cheers
