  1. +1 to Zeer Rangsit even if IT/smartphones etc. isn't really your thing.

Lots of places to eat/drink, cheap clothing and all kind of gadgets for sale on the basement floor.

Thai-style market in front and around the building with a lot of street food stalls.

Small single-floor shopping mall in the building just next to the main building (on your right when facing the main building, entrance is right where the green W logo for Watsons is on the picture above), has lot of clothing, bags etc. of all prices including good quality local brands (e.g. "No Problem" shirts). A lot of choice in a small area, really.

Much closer to DMK than Future Park too.

I could spend a full day there without getting bored, but admittedly I'm an IT geek rolleyes.gif

  2. Driver over 18? Drivers license? Helmets?

The world lost at least one idiot in this crash! If the police order you to stop and you decide to speed away and don't stop then you are the one that is responsible for what happens after! The parents of the pillion riders should blame the driver and if he was under 18 then they should sue his parents as they would be responsible for him and he having a motorcycle in the first place.

Wow, a 14 yo boy has died and that's all you have to say? Are you a father or do you have children you care for? teenage boys are tough to manage, they may end up racing on bikes without your knowing this. This one was someone's son and brother, you know.

It has happened in my Thai family, an otherwise trouble-free 15 yo boy had an accident while racing, he was not seriously hurt but someone else had been injured too and the bike (borrowed from an older friend) was severely damaged. He was arrested and I paid the 30K bahts to get him out of this without hesitation, too happy to get him home safe. That was 10+ years ago so these 30K were worth more than they are now.

No one would have ever suspected that he'd do something like this, not being on the wild side at all.

I hate these street racers as much as anyone here, but such heartless comments when a young life has been lost...

  3. The three teens and the two officers were critically injured.

The three teens were pronounced dead on arrival for serious wounds on the heads, faces and bodies.

The two officers also suffered broken teeth, cuts on faces, broken bones on the shoulder.

Seems to me that the teens were way more "critical" than the cops whose injuries are far from life-threatening.

I'm sure that there must have been a way to catch the youngsters without resorting to this. Police brutality.

  4. If you see messages saying that the driver has reset the GPU as I think I understand, then my bet is on the GFX card, not the RAM or mainboard

However this does not rule out overheating by far. I would only concentrate on the GFX card overheating: how is its own fan doing?

  5. I've worked in the IT field in Thailand for 8 years or so (I don't anymore, back to my home country)

I think that if you want to find a job in a Thai company, you do need to speak (at least) and possibly write Thai.

I certainly couldn't have got my job if I didn't.

It's really hard to get hired by a Thai company. It took me almost a year to find a job despite the fact that I had skills that were really hard to find in Thailand then (probably still are). Hiring a foreigner is a real hassle and many people from mid-management at least are very much prejudiced against this (sometimes for good reasons, there's a story I've already told here on TVF).

Also, at some point I have recently considered coming back to Thailand and I spoke to one of my former colleagues who's now the tech director at one of the major Thai ISPs. He basically said "you're over 50 now, no way you'll find a job". Harsh to hear, but true I'm afraid.

  6. Believe it or not, I don't do prostitutes so I'm not "pro" anything.

I can't judge their level of despair in Thailand compared to anywhere in the world, and probably neither can you.

My point is just that if I somehow went to sell myself, I would certainly rather do it sitting in a bar in Pattaya and going to an hotel than standing alone on a street, almost naked, on a cold winter night in Paris with all the dangers lurking around, then performing acts in the back of a car, in a public toilet or in the bushes of the Bois de Boulogne.

Saying that they do it in 100% comparable conditions is just not true and this must have consequences on their state of mind.

    That's it. Nothing else.

  7. I'm no advocate for prostitution, but I can see in what conditions they work here in Paris and I can see huge differences from what I've seen in Pattaya.

Here, I can see almost naked girls standing for hours along streets on cold winter nights , being harassed by cops, by thieves and the worst that can be found on the streets at night.

Actually, I remember a social worker speaking on TV, saying that taking drugs is their way to stand the cold.

Now, I'm not saying that life is all rosy for bar girls in Pattaya, but I feel that applying the results of a study made in the western world to Pattaya is a very broad approximation.

  8. This high tech device can save live and lower injuries and offset the disastrous consequences of cerebral atrophy

    Nice but...

Extra cost, much added drag in water, decreased efficiency of the propeller hence higher fuel consumption.

Between this and the extra safety, what do you think people will chose? (unless it's made mandatory).

I haven't seen this used anywhere on speedboats even on the "nanny state" coasts.

Google "Boat Propeller Cage" and see how many manufacturers/designs there are.

    Somebody is buying them.

Maybe, just not in my part of the world and I spend quite some time around boats.

Wouldn't mind seeing them made mandatory for specific conditions / environments though.

  10. Be carrefully of this Land citizens: poland. Hungaria. Romania. Bulgaria. Estonia. Check and Slowakey. Malta. Letoania. Ukrania. Portogal. Spain they are very poor land wich citizens can do anything to live abroad

You forgot that little island off of France, they are getting poorer by the day.

You mean Corsica, certainly? (they think they're not French)

Amazed how Siam122 didn't even bother spelling the names of the countries targeted by his racist/xenophobic rant properly.

As for Portugal, just hoping they won't steal the cup tonight.

  11. I'm a loooong-time SRWare Iron user (it's another Chrome fork from a German company) but since we've beaten them on last Wednesday... OK just joking about the German thing, really since a post made by someone here I've decided to give it a try and I must say that I'm really impressed. Been using it for a couple of weeks and I don't think I'll go back to Iron.

It has tons of very useful features built-in, seems a little bit less memory-hungry (I have a lowly 32-bit machine with 4 Gb RAM).

My only concern is that apparently source code is not available unlike Iron and I don't know what's the business plan of the company behind it, so there's always a small risk that it's phoning home to leak usage data. Well, just like the regular Chrome does.

It still fully supports Windows XP too unlike Chrome and Iron.

  12. Well, I must say that I didn't see this coming. Nice to see something good happening to my home country, it's been a while and it's badly needed.

We've been overwhelmed by the Germans but stood firm, and realism made the rest. 58 years since we've last beaten them in official match, that's something to celebrate.

Portugal won't be a piece of cake, these guys have elevated realism to an art and Ronaldo is on a rising curve.

With so many Portuguese in France (even in my own condo) that's going to be a real battle of supporters too.

  13. I'm no doctor but as a cancer survivor myself I have taught myself quite a bit on this.

As far as I can tell this does not tell the main tumor location, it only mentions some pelvic lymph nodes being involved, not the omentum itself.

So it's pretty hard to tell anything IMO.

However I'm sure that Sheryl will provide a much more meaningful answer than mine.

Please accept all my sympathy and moral support. I know quite well what she (and you) are getting through. Fighting cancer is tough, but more and more of us make it through.

  14. Out of operating memory, not out of storage memory. Moving stuff around from internal to external will do nothing.

Uninstall some apps you don't use. Old phone no good, they're coming with 3GB of operating memory these days.

Not likely as the OP specifies that the error has shown up during the update of an app.

So it's very likely to be storage memory, pal.

Running out of RAM (what you're calling "operating memory") seldom produces any error message on Android. Its memory manager will kill running apps as required to free RAM. At most you'll see "Application xxx has quit unexpectedly" and that's all.

  15. I would start by rebooting (restarting) my phone, as this will clear up the main storage a tiny bit, maybe enough to install one of the cache cleaner apps (easier than doing it manually app by app as KhunBENQ suggested IMHO). Note that Android will refuse installing any new app (or doing update) unless there's over 10% storage free (or so). I like the "AppMgr III" app a lot because it's a small application with a lot of functions built-in: it gives a very clear view of what apps are in the main storage, how much they use for the app itself, their data etc. and also has a 1-click cache cleaning function. On top of this, it's a very convenient way to move your apps from the main storage to the SD card and see what app currently is where and how much storage is left in each area.

The SD card issue is tricky. Some rare phones don't support moving apps to the SD at all as mentioned above. On many phones the SD card isn't what it's supposed to be i.e. that tiny black chip you slot in. It's an area of the internal storage that is handled as a SD card and seen as such by Android. It can be separate from the main storage or being kind of an "overlay" that shares its storage space with the main internal storage. Yes, it can be a real headache and SD card management is my major gripe against Android, especially since Google has messed up with the protections badly since 4.4, making it even more difficult for apps to store large data on the SD since then. Windows Phone is much more sensible on that particular aspect.

In the end it's likely that you've run out of main storage as told above, so after cleaning cache, see if moving apps to the SD helps. Add a card if your phone manages this in the "regular" way (i.e. what Android sees as the SD card storage really is). Don't expect to free as much as every app's size because part of it has to stay on the main storage.

Last but not least, when there's not enough space for an update, a simple way to update is to uninstall an app and reinstall it. Unfortunately this means that all data of this particular app will be lost in the process. Also this often can't be done for preinstalled app (if they're system apps).

  16. (...)

By normal I mean that you aren't offering daily rentals to 100 Arabs, creating security problems and noise pollution for the rest of the building.

    (...)

Ordinary racism at work on TVF. Just great.

100 Europeans, Latinos, Indians or Chinese would be no issue, I take it?
