  1.

Just on British radio, "family in Australia denies any knowledge that a twin was born". Family in Australia clamining they are very distressed at this story.

Lawyer on right now blaming lack of proper contract in Thailand.

Same in Australia, they deny a twin,  53 yr old Aust man and 51 yr old Thai/Aust woman

This is getting more and more interesting like a drama soaps.

Back story is that the surrogate knew of the down syndrome child early on but declined to tell anyone for fear she would not get paid.

If the surrogate did in fact had two children and the hospital did NOT notify the agency or the parents, then we have a real problem with the health care system in Thailand.

  2. DNA tests? !!

Wouldn't it be easier to just look at the hospital records to see how many babies this person had on that day?

If it's a legit hospital, then I'm sure it's easy for the proper authorized persons to obtain those informations.

Just this morning, on "rueng lao chao nee", the military is cracking down on scams in front of Wat Phra Kaew, so I'm willing to bet that they are going to get hard on hospitals/clinics/doctors doing some un-ethical ding dong.

And... cool it on not trusting Thais with money.  I can understand generalizing to a point of playing god... but this is getting ridiculous.

  3. I sure hope the funds raised will actually be given to the child and not the adults... that said... i'm pretty sure the majority of the funds will disappear.

I hope selfless-Thai individuals will come to the rescue of this child.

I'm not sure which hospital they went to get these proceedures, but no doubt, "speaking from experience", the doctors will inform the patients of potential and actual health problems.  In this case, it seams that the agency withheld the information from the surrogate.

Another reason why the "agency" would not tell the surrogate is that operating may increase the risk of loosing both children.  At which point, the parent's may have also colluded to withhold information from the surrogate.  Just thinking about the scenarios make me sick to the stomach.

If this is actually a real "agency", they should be held accountable in Australia and Thailand, procescuted to the fullest extent of laws from both countries.

  4. I feel sad for the baby.  Because, the last thing the baby need to worry about is if she/he will have a loving home.

I feel sad for the baby.  Because, adult "intelligence" brought her/him to this point.

I feel sad for the baby.  Because, with so much "moral high horse" attitude, why didnt' the surrogate think he/she could be abbandoned.

I feel sad for the baby.  Because, money was the reason she/he was conceived.

I do hope that the Australian parents are being bombarded back home for being so selfish and irresponsible.  Hindsight being 20/20, if it was me, I would have brought all my children home.

  5. Crap, I don't understand what was said.  Can someone help.

If I currently own land, do I have to pay these "inheritance tax"?  or do these "inheritance taxes" apply only after it was given to me?

I'm confused because they added soda drinks into "inheritance taxes"... i'm an idiot with taxes, but what.... if I inherited a case of soda would the government actually care about it?...

So confused... can someone help make sense to the laymen.

  6. The doctor is trying to calm people down... preventing panic.  We are not there yet.  But the fact that the US are currently pulling all aid workers out of the infected South Africa region is not a good indication.

We are a few steps away from West Africa going into panic mode.  Which is not good.

In all honesty and reality, you would NOT sit next to an Ebola infected person because the person would most likely be sweating, coughing, etc.  The infected person would most likely be laying on the ground, not sitting.

Thailand does not have an effective outbreak containment system.  If Ebola does come to Thailand, we would be the last persons to know about it, therefore keep a close eye on Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, UK, and Australia.

When people start dying off in those countries, that's when you start wearing hazmat suits in Thailand.

Can someone tell me what or where is "Black Africa"?  My geography lessons did not cover "Black Africa".

  7. That's the plan... keep telling everyone that it'll go up with no reason that it will. That's what they said last quarter. I guess once they hit rock bottom, there's no other way but up.

Keep selling over priced, under valued, cars..... that'll fix the problem.

Oh, and continue to ignore your customers...that'll help.

Thailand Toyota Camry 2.5HV Navigator: 1,879,000 baht. or $59,013.85 usd at .31 baht. Lower spec than US.

USA Toyota Camry SE Sport 2.5L: $26,240 usd. or 835,481.21 baht at .31 baht. Higher spec than Thailand.

    People here are delusional.

  8. Simple List

    Blue book

    Insurance documents

    Tax sticker

    Very simple. smile.png

Requote with suggestion but should be verified.

Blue Book (Photo copy should be sufficient).

Insurance documents (Insurance card and accident report paper).

Valid Tax Sticker (Posted on left top windshield).

I don't think you want to keep your original blue book in the car, photo copy should be sufficient. It's what I do.

Honestly, I don't see a reason to even bring the blue book, but I do have my photocopy in the car just because "everyone" does it.

  9. Will lining up behind the white line at traffic lights also apply to motorbikes. - the worst offenders!

It annoys me when I am in "pole position" at the lights, only to have up to a dozen motorbikes come in front of me, and either go very slowly away when the lights change to green or worse and frequently, STALL!

Hopefully with the attention being given to the 5 Joms, those that are apprehended will be meaningfully fined (1000baht+) and not just given a slap on the wrist or relieved of 100baht!

Well, I am one of those motorbike riders that cuts to the front and for your information it isn't about cutting in line, it is for safety. I have seen quite a few cars pile into a line of cars waiting at a light and I am not about to risk being sandwiched between two cars for no reason. Usually the motorbikes are far quicker off the line than cars anyway in my experience, although I will grant you that it only takes one bike left behind to hold you up. Pragmatism tops blind obedience to rules in Thailand and I like it that way.

I think the worse are the ones that ignore red lights. I loose about 10 seconds waiting for those that jump red lights. Most offenders that jump red lights are cars... some motorcycles but most are cars.

  10. A video was going around about a guy parking in a handicap spot. Another guy wanted him to park elsewhere so that the reserved space can be available for handicaps. Soon enough, parking attendants and building staff joined in.... guess who they defended.

    Youtube video

Nothing to do with the post, but I think we can all guess where this "Tough traffic law enforement" will go.

  11. Granted there are many traffic violators that need curbing. However before enforcing stricter traffic control one should first analyze as to why many motorist behave the way they do! Firstly one should look closely at the existing infestructure as it is now, before pointing fingers at the motorist. For example;

    1. The protruding man-holes in the road, and the steel covered holes for maintenance sometimes has a sudden drop of up to 10cm this forces the motorist to slow down significantly that ultimately slows the traffic flow down to a complete stop 100 meters back
    2. The state run busses that use all three lanes trying to overtake each other and using 1.5 lanes to stop when picking up or dropping passengers, when there is a special lane designated for busses and emergency vehicles, as most of our roads have three lanes this causes a complete blockage of two lanes and if there is a u-turn near where the bus stops, all three lanes come to a complete standstill which in turn contributes to heavy traffic congestion.
    3. Sometimes there are u-turns every 100 meters on many of our roads, especially from Victory Monument to Buffalo Bridge do we really need so many u-turns on such a heavily congested road? This causes a huge back-log in traffic, especially when two lanes are used by motorist at the u-turn leaving only one lane free for the traffic flow, then this comes to a full stop too when there are vehicles that queue up to turn left. Or there is a bus waiting for passengers. Shurly one lane for u-turn traffic is sufficient!

All these small things (just to mention a few) add up to heavy traffic congestion, thereby irritating the motorist which in turn causes unruly behavior on our roads, so Mr."5 Joms" consider amending your infustructure first before comming down so hard on the motorist.

    - Public busses stopping willy-nilly and not at their designated stops.

    - Ssongtaews stopping willy-nilly and not at their designated stops... they don't have any designated stops so might as well ban them altogether.

    - Motorcycle taxis putting up make shift stops that block traffic.

    - Traffic signals not positioned correctly or blocked by trees, signs, buildings.

    - Traffic signals that have been pushed out of position due to traffic accident or on purpose.

    - Traffic signals that do not work.

Wait a sec... what's the objective of this "Tough traffic law enforement"?.. i'm now so lost, feel like swimming in a sea of somtum.

  12. Is there a website that foreigners can upload traffic infringements in Thailand, recorded by dashcams?

Riding my scooter to work, I saw 10 traffic infringements per 100 meters. I'm not talking about minor infringements.... I'm talking about riding on walk paths, riding toward the wrong way of one way traffic, jumping traffic lights.

I'm about to buy a dashcam for my scooter and hope to "contribute" to their big master plan!!!!

  13. Just wanted to add.

The reason why we changed the tires on dad's car was that I found a 12 inch long crack on the inside wall. Found this out when I decided to get them rotated and inspected at B-Quick. I would have never noticed this danger had I not brought it in for a rotation.

I think the crack happened when he drove it flat, due to a nail.

Inspect it, eye ball it and then use your best judgement.

Driving on a flat tyre will destroy the tyre.

Sure did. All this after the fact. I told my dad about the crack... he said "I had a flat once and drove it to a gas station to get it filled."

Not sure how far or how fast he drove, but definetly destroyed the tire.

  15. Discipline, discipline, discipline. Why can't the authorities understand that.

99% of the motorists state-side will wait at stop light with no traffic in sight, because they are disciplined. The motorists here, both foreigners and Thais are undisciplined componded by their own belief that they all have the right to drive.

They can't sustain those intersections, and motorists will just avoid those intersections and continue to break the law elsewhere...duh.

How long will this operation/campaign last?... A week, A month, A year? Then what... back to the same-old same-old.

But I will commend the authorities for trying... that counts for something.

  16. They've seen too many "tech" movies and "CSI" shows. So, they are going to monitor 30k "registered" shops...LOL, how about the unregisted ones?

BTW, who's going to monitor those camera's? A program?

So, let me understand this. I can open a shop, register it, get the gov to install those camera's and be completely free of libel should a minor walks in. hmm.. me thinks to open a shop tomorrow.

  17. You said you "need" to replace.... what is the "need"? Was it based on a recommendation by people whom will benefit from the sales or from the people that will use the product?

I had the same scenario last year for my 2007 CRV. At 2011, the dealer "recommended" for me to change it. At a total cost of 37,000 baht, I told them I will wait and use my best judgment.

My father on the other hand, changed his tires when recommended by the mechanics/dealer, on the 4th year. His tires looked good, tread depth was good.

Use your best judgment, there are many factors to determine if your tires needs to be changed.

    - Tread depth. Check it. If it's low, change it. If it's low and you don't change it, you will risk aquaplaning (Aquaplaning Wiki).

    - Physical damages on the sidewalls and contact area. If you see "significant" damages to the sidewall or contact area, change it. (How to know when Car Tires Need Replacing, wikiHow.)

I reached my tread depth limit on my CRV on the 6th year, at the same time I noticed micro cracks on the contact area. Other than that, the overall tire looked good. Michelins. I then decided to look for tires the following year, looking for the cheapest I can possibly find. My target was Maxxis tires, just because I heard they were cheap. I don't drive like a bandit, so performance is not an issue. I am overly concerned with aquaplaning or wet driving performance, so I read up on every review I can find on the net on Maxxis tires. Honestly, 99% of the reviews was good.... so... the only way to know was actually buying it and trying them for myself.

On the 7th year, my tires showed considerable signs of aging, newborn was coming, so I decided to go for the change. Managed to find a shop that sells the tires I want, 12,800 baht total (compared to over 30,000 for Michelins at the dealer).

A lot of people asked why I would make a "drastic" change from Michelins to Maxxis, I told them cost plus my own best judgment from internet research.

To date, after 1.5 years, the Maxxis haven't given me any problems.

The reason why I changed wasn't because people told me to change, but rather it was because I saw the need.

  18. Sathorn Silom area.

    Update:

The "dealer" or mechanic was duping us. Quoted 19,000 baht yesterday and after raising some suspicions they said they can get one for us for 15,000. Wife asked what the difference was, "dealer" said 19,000 can be had today where as 15,000 will be on a "wait list".

    Long story short:

We found a company that sells new alternators for 12,000 and will be getting it today to be installed on the car. Definetly not going back to this "dealer".

  19. Anyone knows the cost of a new alternator for Toyota for a 2007 Camry 2.4 ?

I was quoted 19,000 baht for on at the dealer. Is this correct?!

It seems rather expensive, to make matters worse, the mechanic said that the part is out of stock and it is in shortage due to it being blacklisted?!
