OOPS forgot my meds this morning.????????
Clearly- you never seem to have ANYTHING positive to say about Thailand, I'm struggling to see why you live here. Still hanging on to 2 year old 'accolades' though I see,

I was on a Hash run the other day, at least 10 people were wearing the same Decathlon shoes (Kalenji Trail XT7). I have had my current pair for about 18 months and have another pair in the cupboard for when they blow out.
Unlike a lot of other shoes the sole is direct molded and doesn't split after getting wet. Very comfortable, decent price and a very good grip over most surfaces. There's a handy little pocket on the tongue to tuck your laces into as well. I've seen others come back from a run in Salomons with the sole hanging off- an expensive alternative.
At B 1800 a pair they are good value, long lasting and do exactly what I need. Very popular with trail runners I know in Phuket and Pattaya. Obviously not all people's feet are compatible with every shoe but if this shoe fits- wear it. Perfect for most of the terrain you will encounter here and when they do blow out you're only looking at B1800 to replace them as opposed to the more expensive shoes.
As for the looks- it just looks like a running shoe as opposed to a boot. Personally I would not worry about getting wet feet in Thailand and waterproof boots aren't once water comes in over the top.

Sycophants of the world (well- the US) rejoice.
Personally I wonder if he actually had the virus in the first place. 3 days to recover when it took the Brit PM 3 weeks (albeit this was earlier on in the pandemic) and others take similar amounts of time.
Its not as if Trump isn't a serial liar and its the type of stunt he would pull, especially as he is struggling in the polls.
"Hey look at me, I beat this virus with the help of Gawd and the power of being the bigliest brain in the world,. Even my son only had the virus for about 3 seconds as he has my orange blood coursing though his veins. I put it down to my daily dose of covofefe'.

Yesterday was his deadline. Why has he not enforced it?
After all he said he was happy with no deal.
It was never a formal deadline. To me giving it an extra couple of days due to the EU Summit (which wasn't planned at the time of the 'deadline' statement) makes perfect sense. Its pretty clear though that there will be no wiggle room and its 'prepare for no deal' that seems to be the message coming out of Johnson's mouth.
Macron is suffering with small man syndrome and its his intransigence on fishing that is causing a lot of the problems (how surprising with an election coming up). He's been punching above his weight in a number of areas at the moment and Mutti is probably getting ready to slap him down.

Waiting for the News from the US to come on to see how it is portrayed, or maybe it will be blocked. The police are trying to disperse tonight's crowd by force. They have picket lines set up and have shields at the ready. Getting ready to push into the crowd as I write this. Such a disturbing action on display. I personally do not think there are enough police to do the job and disperse them from in front of Siam Paragon.
Just been live on Al J. All the protesters did was set up half a km down the road. The cops sealed off a large area of the shopping district for nothing. They are stood behind their barriers but there's no one there.????

Sounds about right to me.
A (very) recent poll indicated Thais and Chiang Mai residents do not want international tourists.
This to me seems to say they must look for a totally different direction.
For many years tourism seems to have been in decline here, it is not just the fear of Covid, no tourism promotion seems to be carried out (example what has happened to the once great Loy Krathong parades?)
Times will be difficult and I feel for those suffering the hardships that they are currently suffering and or are to suffer in the future but with both the authorities and the public wishing to insulate themselves from outside contact a new direction needs to be adopted.
It may well be that Chiang Mai is to return to the cultivation of rice, I don't know as I have not heard any concrete proposal for a viable alternative.
Broadly speaking the second paragraph above goes along with my understanding as well. When some people mention tourists they tend to think its all about International tourists. From what I understand 70% of tourism to Chiang Mai and its environs is Thai, and only 30% 'foreigners'' (I can't remember where I read this recently so can't post a link). Its certainly noticeable visiting somewhere like Doi Inthanon.

Bearing in mind the distance from Bangkok to Lampang is approx 600km this was hardly an emergency. The ambo driver had no reason to have lights and siren going. People become apathetic towards the ambos here when they see them constantly being misused.
It detracts from vehicles in a REAL emergency situation.
As pointed out above why did he not just go around to the left, or into the oncoming lane if traffic was clear?

An update- flew up and back last week. Not much change at the Phuket end, other than more places have opened up in the Domestic Arrivals lounge. Bkk Airways lounge was open and they are now serving light refreshments on the flight. Social distancing in place on the flight up, but not on the way back.
Coming back from Swampy the entry to the departure gates is just a checkpoint IIRC there used to be a scanner there in the past but I may be mistaken, the only security check was at the gate. Bkk Airways lounge there is open as well.
As an aside be wary of booking Bkk Airlines at present. I booked two flights this week, only to have both cancelled within 15 hours. To me they seem to be running a racket courtesy of COVID- book a cheap flight ( I had Swampy return for B1990), then have it cancelled and have to book an alternative more expensive flight. They know the refund process puts people off but I may be tinfoil hatting this. Their schedules are all over the place at the moment.

1 hour ago, Lacessit said:I can remember leaving a bad review of a Thai hotel once on Agoda, place was a s##thole. Rusty cold water, damp linen, perfunctory cleaning. Maybe I was lucky not to be charged with defamation too.
Nowadays, I only book places I have been before. I do walk-ins for the rest, ask to see a room, walk out if it is not to my standards. Which are not onerous - aircon that works, clean, big bed, quiet.
I wouldn't be bothered arguing corkage. I'd pay up, just never go back there again.
I'd agree the hotel industry here is shooting itself in the foot if it can't take bad reviews on board.
Massive difference between a 'bad ' review and a malicious, petulant, vindictive one. An honest 'bad' review can sometimes be productive. I think @Scallywagsummed this up succinctly above.
Personally if I have any issues with a hotel or guesthouse I politely explain them at the end of the stay (unless they need rectifying immediately)- staff are normally happy to be told about room issues. On return they've normally been sorted.
The guy behaved like an arrogant, entitled sphincter (not that I support the defamation laws here in any shape or form though).

"Regardless, some 40 foreigners registered as staying in Phuket still have yet to present themselves at Phuket Immigration".
If you are not one of the people above the majority of comments above are moot. This is about PHUKET Immigration and THEIR policy. People had their opportunity, chanced it hoping for another extension and will pay the price. Son nam na. Immigration even accepted some applications without all the paperwork but people can go back this week withut repercussions to finish the process.
Instead of knocking the system why not give PHUKET Immigration some credit.

If you are married to a Thai you should be able to get back depending on the availability of flights back from your country. A Noggie friend of mine who has a wife and daughter here had to jump through a lot of hoops but got back in the end via a KLM flight from Amsterdam IIRC. He had to quarantine at one of the allocated locations but got paroled about 4 weeks ago.
Apparently it helps if you are in a location that you can maintain constant contact with the thai consulate or embassy.

2 minutes ago, genericptr said:But Thailand is a 3rd world country which foreigners enjoy because it's cheap and easy living. The reason immigration is harder in other countries is because they're trying to keep OUT poorer people (like Thais) which are coming to work and make more money then they could back home. Essentially, Thailand is importing foreign currency and European countries are importing foreign labor. The calculation for immigration is completely different.
The Thai government seems to think because they've imported some fancy cars and Starbucks that now they're comparable to European countries. I think however they're seriously mistaken and they'll find out whitey simply will not come back to Thailand if they make it too difficult for us.
Errrr- no and it hasn't been for years. '3rd World' is a mis-used phrased and used to apply to non-aligned countries. I can assure you Thailand is NOT cheap and hasn't been for about ten years
Thailand is regarded as a 'developing Nation'- its healthcare, transportation infrastructure, education, communicatios, etc is far ahead of other countries in the region such as Laos, and Cambodia and is well above the carpholes that constitute most true '3rd world' countries in Africa.

There was a Danish registered business jet on the pan approximately 6 weeks ago when I flew out to Bangkok. I had the registration at the time but haven't got the details anymore. Clearly if you have the connections you can fly in and out.
All this trial run stuff is BS- Corsican gangsters have to maintain their supply lines come what may. ????

'services, like McDs, Pizza Co., Bank, coffee shop, plenty of parking. I hope so, BigC Kamala sucks the big D."
I hope not- the last thing I want to see is Kamala becoming another 'Little America'. You only have to drive 10km either way to enjoy all that carp. Although I agree that Big C sucks Supercheap and a trip out to Makro on occasion suit me.
