Australia doesn't have free medical, it's a separate tax (Medicare levy), on top of already high taxes.

Wrong. Not everyone pays the levy, which pisses me off. People on our generous benefits do not pay for example, and some of them are proud 3rd generation bludgers...

There is a couple of details posters seem to be overlooking.

Medicare and the public hospital system is free, yes. However, if one is looking at any chronic condition requiring what is called elective surgery, be prepared for a long wait. A guy I used to work with had to wait 18 months for a hip replacement, in pain all the way. If he had private health cover, he could have had it done in a private hospital within a month.

The other issue is a public hospital vs a private hospital. The publics are overworked, have inexperienced doctors at the front line, and putting it bluntly are giant petri dishes. Private hospitals won't get patients if they are substandard, so they have to be good.

I have top level private cover, and there is no way I would leave it.

    Disagree.

You can pay an intermediate fee to 'jump the queue' if you want and is reasonably priced.

The publics are overworked, have inexperienced doctors at the front line, and putting it bluntly are giant petri dishes

Yes I agree they are overworked. The rest is utter <deleted>. Where do you think Doctors go to learn to be doctors ? And who do you think teaches them ? Having worked for QLD Health for many years I can say your statements lack merit and any real knowledge.

And to put it into some prospective, I was in a private hospital last year for a double knee replacement. The care I received was sub standard and utterly negligent. After hours of no help 1 review on the hospital website and they could not do enough for me.... I had the customer service manager at my bedside within the hour, he gave me his private number....

  2. Hi mate,

Sorry to read this..... I hope you find someone to do it.... Last year our pup caught conovirus (from the shop) and then infected our other dog.... We tried everything for 2 weeks.... I could not see them suffering anymore, packed a shovel in the car and went to see treating vet to have them euthanized.... He would not.... My Wife explained they do not do it normally.....

I was angered, but more upset that a vet would rather see dogs suffer... Anyway my Wife suggested we give them one more night..... Sure enough they got through the night and with lot of love got past it.... They have been fit and healthy ever since.....

Anyway, you may want to check that they will do it for you first..... It's something we take for granted in the west....

Ive run  a spanner over the bolts and they were slightly loos, re-seated the top caps and there appears to be no more leaks.... other than this one.... I don't know water pumps (is this the inlet or outlet ?)... buts still weeping.... would that cause the pump to cycle... asking before undoing renew the  thread tape and most likely breaking a pipe and having to redo... have sent an email to the landlord telling him a new pump is due but he takes a while to respond (lives in Aus on his farm).

As an Aussie I am flabbergasted he would not provide a new pump.... It's hard enough to deal with the Thai landlords.....

To your question I have had the same issue, pump running every 15-20 secs for maybe 5 secs.... I can't see any obvious leaks and when we are not actually using the water the level is static. Someone mentioned on another forum it may need 'bleeding' but I could not see how to do it.

If you follow the pipe you should see where it comes from, the town water or the tank.

I have found the easiest way to deal with these 'landlords' is to let them know the problem, and advise them you are getting it fixed and deducting the cost from the monthly rent. Works for us. ????

I did a lot of work on the family home, but none of the family thanked me. When I complained to my wife all she had to say was that they never asked me to to do it.

Much later they did ask me to wire up an new extension they had built, which I did ( I never asked for, nor expected financial reward for what I did ), and did some plumbing work they asked me to do but they still never said thank you. Such a small word, and costs nothing, but never said by them or my wife.

Not that it's a purely Thai thing. Few people show any gratitude in my experience.

Yes 'thank yous' are seldom used here that I have noticed....

Thought I'd pick up on this thread and see if anyone else has noticed generally pumps across Thailand are going much more than usual since last month. Sounds like a conspiracy theory I know, started with my Bangkok apartment, no water running, no leaks found but pump goes constantly, maybe a pressure offset but turned off at night and needs a big refil when turned back on in the morning.  As I sat with a beer with my pump off, I started noticing other pumps in the street also going constantly, so <deleted> maybe I have just never noticed this is norm before.

I then move into a summer rental near the beach, and same thing, landlord send technician and does not find anything so its still going now, our case bills are included and have informed landlord oh and no pool so would not be as steep a bill anyway. landlords with rentals with bills included might be in for a surprise with the stay at home guides.

Anyway, likely just cabin fever madness on my part, but give it a listen in your neighbourhood and see if there are constant pumps going.

I have gone through this the last few weeks. Our pump constantly goes on and off, very short bursts. Checked water level in tank and measured over a few hours, no drop... So maybe not a leak, but if there is, it's all underground and concrete... Not sure the landlord will come to the party on that !!

If the pool pump working, does the main water pumo supposed to be working as well because of it?

Isnt the pool system should be closed circuit?

All the pools I have had are a totally separate system. Manually filling the pool with water.

    2 hours ago, Olmate said:

Can you turn the main water off to the pool? Leave everything else as normal..Then monitor water level in the pool,if it drops more than usual evaporation ,not sure how much that would be tho, would suggest a leak in pool system?

Not sure there is water actually connected to the pool, never in  my experience with pools.

In the current climate you could expect 4-8cm drop in water every day... back In Australia I would have to top up my pool a few times per week in the summer.

    2 hours ago, Doronazl said:

So technician is here, they turned off the pool water pump and the main pump seem to have stopped for now

This means the leak is from that end then?

Right now the only indication i have for a leak is if i hear the pump yes?

I am pretty sure they are NOT connected in any way. All the pools I have had you have to fill / top up manually.

The house pump may have 'air' in the system and may need bleeding out....

  6. Hey mate,

I was just thinking about this yesterday at Tops.... But then I think about all the times we have bought 'fresh' meat in the markets, fruit and veg and we are not worried about picking any thing else up, other than a bad dose of the runs....

So yes i though about it, then carried on. At this point I would be glad to get the virus, just to get it over with ! If my number is up, so be it. We practice good hygiene and can only wait and see what will happen, like everyone else.

    Stay safe. ????

I need to get my normal 1 year "Retirement" extension.  I have gotten it since 2015 meeting all the requirements.

This year I'm told to stay home.  Do not go anywhere.  The Prime Minister says I could be arrested and fined if I did.  Which is OK with me since I am 72.  I can stay safe and alive.

Immigration tells me I have to got to their offices to get the extension 2 times.  The first to drop everything off and pay the fee.  The second, the next day to pick everything up.  If I don't do this, I could be arrested and fined.  I can lose money and die.

The Land of Smiles.  So, what should I do?

    Where are you mate ?

Do you have to do it personally or can someone do it for you ?

  8. Riding along Beach Rd Jomtien the other night I heard quite a few of the bigger poles arcing.... I have seen so many cable/transformer fires over here for the last few years... Seems of a case of wait and see....

Our home has dodgy wiring also, can see the connectors for the hot water for instance... Trying to get an electrician to come and sort it all out... I have too much respect for electricity at the best of times, let alone here...

  9. Hey all,

I am new to the CPAP scene and whilst riding around Patts I recall seeing a big billboard about RESMED (my brand) and damned if I can find it now... of course ! Did a google but all I can find is online...I would rather go to a place to actually make sure I am getting the right parts.

    Any ideas ?

    TIA

  10. The one thing to double check is your your travel insurance coverage. IDP will cover vehicle types you are licensed for in your home country in most countries. However, some PDS's I have read with regards to scooters/motorbikes is a different matter.

    Double check ????

  11. Mate,

Great write up. I am not in the market, but oh my, if I was !!

Do you have the inspection report done ? Anything over 5yrs (maybe 7) needs an inspection and certificate, I know as I just bought a 2014 PCX with 700kms on it. Brand new but still needed the certificate.

Back home I have a FJR1300 waiting for me when I have a  holiday, would love similar here...

Damn, knew I should not have looked ! ????

    Good luck
