Immigration clearance can be done enroute to simplify travel. Security screening has been done before take off. Simplify the system don't make it buearatic and complicated. Use Elons "AI" if you wish but stop F2F screening it won't stop the criminals only slow down the honest holiday makers.
I mean we are in the 19th century aren't we?

À lot of farrangs I know drink beer in excess of the limit after playing golf or a night in town and drive home afterwards. Why be the hangman when we are all not angels. The Thai driver deserves punishment but so do many other crimes in thailand starting with Mountain B and the owners and the tessaban and local cops who all knew. Oh we have forgotten about that now since it's not news. Owner will get off free and pay a few bungs and everyone is happy.
Stop brining your "in my country" attitude here and learn the Thai way.

Effective and active policing would most likely have prevented this accident.
I have a friend in the UK who is a total pish-head, ex British military and can still put the ale away.
He drives HGV 1 vehicles for a living and despite his love for the ale, he will not drink alcohol for at least 24 hour before working.
He knows that if he fails a breathalizer he will not only lose his job but he will never be able to get another HGV job, his livelihood will be gone..
In Thailand, most of the traffic stops on the highways have less to do with the law than as police income support.
Granted, there will be the occasional clampdown but the 'Big Joke's' of this land will continue to announce the clampdowns in advance and then call the clampdown off as soon as the press have lost interest.
As long as this remains the status quo, we will continue to read about the death and destruction on Thailand's roads.
Assumptions. Who cares if a good driver had an accident when dui if he serves a purpose in the future. You obviously have not lived in Thailand for long so get real.

Well this is a disaster just waiting to happen.
With all the low quality knock-offs and poor standards (of every kind) already being used, where on earth does she get the idea that letting individuals produce liquor for commercial purposes will "protect the health and safety of consumers" ??????
I keep think of the videos I've seen of people making the "juice" you see being sold in small plastic bottles at roadside vendors. You know, like the "orange juice" sold in unlabelled bottles.
That's made by people dumping loads of commercially made juice into a washtub and then adding water (to dilute it) and maybe some sugar to cover up the weaker taste, then filling the bottles by submerging them in the tub with the same bare hands they had probably just used to wipe their butts with (or picked their nose with) and then screwing on the lids.
Now imagine those same people making alcohol in the same way and then selling it commercially.
In the article it quotes the spokesperson:
(SMEs - Small/Medium Enterprises, not "Subject Matter Experts".)
Yeah, just like hotels/condo buildings/nightclubs are supposed to meet safety standards as well, which are also rigously enforced.
And what will happen when a few hundred people die from alcohol poisoning ? And a few hundred more from lead poisoning ? And a few hundred more from ingesting alcohol laced with insecticides/anti-freeze ?
Oh right, a two day crackdown on (known) producers and then everything continues as per normal. Again. And again.
(Speaking of unsafe standards. I visited a friend at the apartment building he moved into. The steel "screen" doors at every Fire Escape are locked with padlocks. Good luck getting out if there's a fire.)
I don't give two flying hoots what the Thais do and what they buy on the side of the road. In the sticks they have made lao khao for decades. I tried it 25 years ago when I first moved to Thailand, whacky stuff.
They have been making cut ethanol with botanicals and colouring for years, bottling in branded bottles & selling it in many pubs and night clubs. Mix Thai whiskey with coke and hey man it's ok. Look around and see the extensive market for second hand alcohol bottles, huh!
On the other side of the spectrum, you underestimate the potential for micro pubs and Thai entrepreneurs. Look at the gin market globally and you don't think the savvy Thais with a few bob will not capitalise? And what's more I can legally have my own still and make my own quality gin without fear at a tenth if the cost, just need a measly 300B licence courtesy of my wife of course and allowed to legally keep 200 litres, not much I know but enough.

I'm pretty sure he will be ignored though. I hope I'm wrong.
The big three will entertain and gift those that matter. He better watch out what he says in public and learn the rules.

Will he , or is he just trying for a lesser sentence , hopefully not prison ,
personally I would make an example of him ,he needs to do time in
jail , not 6 months or a year , minimum 5 years , until the authorities
start taking DUI more seriously , more people are going to die needlessly .
regards Worgeordie
Exactly and he would loose his career and certainly stop drinking.

Do these people have brains. Pack up a house and still pay your taxes on an empty house to buy a flight and rent a short term villa for 40k a month and their pension on food just to help Thailands economy. Holiday packages for the elderly in Spain are inexpensive in the cold months. British pensioners have been doing it for years.

What about all those people behind a pair of handle bars. Does the law apply to them?

Sticks and stones won't break my bones but a big sharp knife and a hand gun will end children's life and your own if your crazy.

There is life outside of Bangkok. Thais are struggling to live never mind cope with covid.
How about "Thai farmers struggling to buy desiel and chemicals to grow rice crops".

The title of this post is wrong " Will the Thai authorities ever tighten up on entertainment licenses?". The authorities are already tight on legal businesses, I currently run 3 that have entertainment licenses & we submit engineer approved plans yearly, City Hall engineer inspection are done on fire safety & evacuation standards, also show we have public liability insurance & fire. The problem is the ones that open illegally & no checks are done.
Not that tight since Mountain B happened. How many more are under the carpet.
