and................ what was the limit on his policy ?

and... we don't know how much was covered ( exclusions, etc )

the thing about "insurance"  is .....   the actual risk/reward of getting it doesn't work out for many .   Of course, if you have lots of money or have worked for lots of years for a major company (not what i did, nor wanted to ) or govt. (also not my thing) ,  then insurance is ok. ( remember ... "good"  policies cost a LOT )

"normal" people spend ever increasing premiums ,  always with the very real RISK that when MOST healthy people ( gotta stay healthy folks.... not what i observe , and is confirmed by the staggering obesity rates , especially in western societies) ....

well, when the issues start popping up after 20 years of paying for "insurance" .... then they're excluded from coverage HAHA.

Nah.... i don't like those conditions.

Get healthy.   Save your money starting in your 40's .   Worked for me .  No major problems.  No exclusions.   No stress being told no,  then waiting on hold for someone to tell you ..... errr,  you need to ......................."

The minimum plan limit is five million pounds.  He's obviously not going to be anywhere close to that but I am sure the brain operation was not cheap.  The medevac included a doctor and a nurse accompanying him in business class. So that's not going to be cheap either.

I self insure, no health cover, bar accident cover on my car insurance. In 7 years I have spent circa 80,000 Baht in hospital fees, including for Wet AMD treatment and a carcinoma removal and after care.  I am quite comfortable with no insurance.  In both cases I was given a good discount by the consultant because I was self financing. To be honest, with the state of the UK NHS, I would be going private if I was living in the UK, and it would be massively more expensive.  My friend had a hip replacement in Thailand and he opted for a Thai government hospital. He had to wait for treatment, but the costs were considerably lower than in an international hospital.  My view is that unless you have an underlying serious condition, and none of us really knows if we will develop one in older age, there comes an obvious cut off point, where the cost of insurance, against the cost of private treatment, makes it much more practical to self insure.

Most of the time it's not worth it, until it is.  That is just how insurance works.

There is a fairly well known travelling vlogger that just got diagnosed with a brain tumor. It caused him to suddenly lose the use of one side of his body.  Also seems to be having some mental problems.  He just got medevac'd back to the UK after weeks in a Sriracha Hospital in ICU, including a brain operation to take a sample.  If he didn't have good travel medical insurance paying for it all it probably would have wiped him out financially.

Answered already. Condos should only be rented for 30 days + which is not competition for hotels. If more condos are rented, illegally, daily/weekly that is massive competition for local hotels.

How would anything change with less than 30 day rentals if the foreign ownership quota increased?  I am pretty sure lots of those are thai registered.  A lot of condo buildings don't allow less than 30 days anyways.

Vietnam is not cheaper for sure. Only booze and cigarettes are cheaper, everything else is way more expensive!

Disagree.  Outside of District 1 HCMC Vietnam is cheaper for pretty much everything.

    Where's the confusion.

Your question is answered in the FAQ.

If you hold an ordinary passport, you should submit your application at the Visa Centre in the country where you lawfully reside.

A long-term visa is acceptable evidence that you lawfully reside in Thailand and can apply for a China visa.  A tourist visa is not.

I will repeat:  Contact the Bangkok visa center for confirmation.

Yes I know what it says.  That is why I came on here and asked the question if I can get it done in Bangkok instead.  Others, who have presumably entered Thailand as a tourist and done it, are implying it's possible to do this in Bangkok.

You were also trying to tell me in your previous post that I can get this done in Hong Kong, which contradicts this latest post of yours and is not even an option for me.  So if you want to know where the confusion is coming from, look in the mirror

By the way, Linux Folks, as you can see from looking at the Linux Forum on TV......

Since 2021, there seems to have been very little interest in the Linux Forum here.

And, I am just hoping to breathe New Life into the Linux forum on AN.

    I am doing my best.

Because, I hope that we can drum up a LOT more interest here on this forum, FOR Linux.....

    This is my hope.

Linux Desktop, which is just a very tiny segment of users, is still way too underappreciated.

I began using Linux about 25 years ago.

Then, for some stupid reason, I switched back to Windows, maybe due to a misconceived thought that I needed applications such as those provided by ADOBE, etc.

So, I left Linux Desktop for about 5 years.

But now, I am back, FULL BORE and FULL FORCE....and.....I will NEVER MAKE the same mistake, again.

I do NOT use the DUAL_BOOT boot GRUB feature in openSUSE whereby I can have Windows installed, side-by-side, on my computers.....

    NO WAY!

I will NEVER use Windows, ever again....

OpenSUSE Desktop is just TOO Nice, for me, now.

Linux Desktop is now NICE enough.

There is really no need to ever return to Windows, and I never will.

    Talk about NICE!

    HERE IS NICE!

And, this is what Linux Desktop Sounds Like to me, this year, 2024....

After 25 years of Linux Desktop, there is no excuse not to use it.

And, for sure, it's just going to get better, and BETTER, faster, and FASTER, in the coming years.

Windows is not good for the average person.

    Believe me.

(Also, China, IMHO, will DUMP Windows, VERY SOON......)

Then, the Entire World will be off Windows.....

    Wait and see, Folks...

I've been running Linux servers for over 20 years and even I still use Windows Desktop.  There are some things you simply can't do on Linux Desktop because there is no app.  I could probably get used to using Linux desktop and work around the things I can't do, but there is no need and I don't feel like making my life more difficult.   There is one thing that I simply cannot get around and that is my business accounting software.  That will only run on Windows and that is probably my most important app, with literally decades of business history on it.  It's irreplaceable.

I have an old laptop that cannot be upgrade beyond Windows 10 so I will probably put Linux desktop on that to extend the life of it. I personally would probably go with Debian Desktop, just because I feel very comfortable with Debian working from the CLI.
