  1. Lest we forget. :o

The brave men who endured amazing hardship and sacrifice in far-flung corners of the world to bestow the freedoms we enjoy today )... We shall remember them.

  2. I wouldn't mind having another child as a backup in case one dies, but I doubt I can afford it so I'm waiting until I get more income.

I've heard a lot of reasons for having kids but this is the first time I've heard of having one as a 'backup'.

Sounds like a spare hard drive.

:o It's not strange. We have had a daughter and a son but decided to have one "backup" just in case (aka the son dies) :D . So lucky the 3rd one is a he.

Its nice to have a backup kid in case your other one can't be re-booted after a nasty virus or something...

Fail. Maybe real time "parenting" should be put on the back-burner until you develop a soul...?

  3. I think old people should be used as stunt doubles in action films to save on special effects / crappy cgi animation. If they get seriously injured or die, no one gives a sh!t. I wish we'd sold grandad to a Chuck Norris action film set, to watch Chuck roundhouse-kick him off a high balcony. So we could remember him in a nice way... :o Instead of the slow slide into senility that we experienced.

You a Bill Hicks fan by any chance?

Busted. :D Have been watching a few old Hicks dvds recently. Looking for a thread where I can use "nosebag boy".

  4. Yea, the 'boing' makes me go 'boing' too

Wife wonders why i can't be in a room with Thai TV on, 'boing boing'.

Another equally annoying noise is the backwards whistle.....hard to spell but it sounds sorta like 'sweeeoup'.

Wonder if I can geet a ring tone of the 'boing'?? would raise a lot of eyebrows in the superstores!!

Mostly learned to turn it off along with the many other anoying sounds that they love, but do agree with an earlier post of Tesco's blasting, never ending commercials on the loudspeakers. It makes me wanna get out asap.

The Sound Effects budget seems to run to about 5 Baht in most local productions.

Just wait until Christmas when you'll get the 130dB chipmunks-on-speed renditions of Christmas Carols in the supermarkets and malls. "Jinga-bew, jinga-bew, jinga awda way" etc. It will make you want to place screwdrivers in front of your eyes and go run at a wall... :o

  5. Ants are good for you . Australian aborigines eat them , they have wonderful white teeth , can run outrun kangaroos and wrestle crocodiles ( Mind you , they do smell a bit )

They are also a delicacy in some of the more progressive African countries, where they are roasted over a dung fire. Yummy. :o

  6. A quick check of the other threads relate to missing deposits or freezes, and that's not the case here. In quick summary;

    - Went to Kasikorn ATM branch on Beach Rd, Patong, tried to withdraw 20,000 baht. Tried 2X, each time, transaction froze. Then on 3rd attempt, machine reads transaction cancelled and spits out card, no paper receipt. (it's the ATM towards the McD /Holiday Inn 3 blocks over from Bangla)

    - I say to myself, this is too f-ed up and go and check my banking transactions online. Well, there in front of my my panic stricken eyes is the 20,000 B transaction going through as processed. I quickly send off an email to the Western Bank's help center. (The buggers don't open their help center until 10pm Thai Time or 9 am EST)

    - Made a call to that 02-888-8888 Kasikorn Bank Call Center (in case anyone needs the number). Fellow tells me, sorry, we can't check but have your bank send us a "document" and we will refund the money.

OK, I say to myself, is this guy playing me for an idiot, like they will cough it up that fast?

    So my questions to you experienced hands are as follows;

    1. What are the chances of me getting this reconciled?

    2. If it can be done, how long does it take?

    3. Am I S.O. L?

    4. Any suggestions. Should I go to a Kasikorn branch and see a manager, or will that just result in them laughing at me?

Now, I'm sure some of you folks are just waiting to hoist me by my short ones for withdrawing so much at once, but the reason was that I had to pay a bill and I needed the cash.

My solution? I just transferred the balance to my credit card and will draw down on that. However, my credit cards are issued in North America so of course it takes 48 hrs to process crud.

I'm paid in FX, and pay taxes in my home country that's why I keep my accounts where they are, plus I rarely have need of local banking support. Nor, do I live have here fulltime.

Basically, what I'm looking for is some suggestions on how to fix this f.up.

Probably some others have had this happen, but i don't see any threads on it.

    Gotta love Thailand's banking systems.

    Fun aint it..........

    Thanks

ps. No laughing, cuz that 20K pays for alot of beer and doggie food gifts :o

Looking at your date of transaction, it is very common for Thai banks to lock ATM transactions to their own account holders at the end of the month. For example, if I try to use UOB card at a Bangkok Bankok, Bank of Ayudyah at the end of the month, it just spits my card out. It does not even begin to do the transaction and no money is withdrawled from my account. Around the 2nd of the month I am able to using interbank ATMs without a problem

BTW, my Bangkok Bank card never has problems (at the end of the month) like the above so I think they have a deal with other banks.

Ditto. Never have a problem with the BB card in other machines, even during the scramble at the end of the month.

  7. Several posters have alluded to the fact that a Michael Moore-type reporter in Thailand would be bumped off or jailed.  These types of reporters do get murdered regularly in Russia, and I was there for the consequences when one such reporter was murdered in Iraq, but I am not as versed in Thai recent history.

Have there been investigative reporters murdered or jailed in Thailand?  I honestly don't know and look to others with more knowledge on the subject.

All the time. There is a thread currently running on the News Clippings page here.. Thailand has a really bad rep for this type of crime, amongst others.

Michael Moorer is a shit-stirrer and self-publicist, but does raise valid points and arguments. Albeit in an annoying (imo) manner.

  8. Also, where is this Life House Furniture located exactly?

    Beachbunny

If you're on the main Sukumvit, coming from Rayong; take a right at the 2nd set of traffic lights in the centre of Banchang. (If you're coming from Pattaya, it would be left at the 1st set t/l's).

The Life House shop is on the left, only about 30 yards off the main road.

  9. Can you eat sharks fin soup, or tuck into the meat of other similarly endangered species? Say "ai yah" a lot? Or do you consider spending a disproportionate amount of money on skin-whitening products as necessary?

If you said "yes" to 2/3 of the above, you're probably off 1st base already. Good luck. :o
