How on earth do you Diet in Thailand ?
fredwiggy replied to DonniePeverley's topic in General Topics
Lotus, Makro, Big C, Tops, Villa and a few others all carry salmon, Tilapia, frozen fillets and others. For a restaurant, khunphil is right. -
How on earth do you Diet in Thailand ?

They can debunk all they want, as opinions of dieting are too much to count. Things work for 50 years because they work, and thousands of people I've trained and given diet advice to have lost weight, and stayed lean, because of it. Of course the Keto diet works, especially if you have a lot of fat to lose, because you're starving the body of carbs. There are side effects of staying on it too long, such as constipation, ostopenia, high cholesterol, kidney stones and fatigue. It does work for the stated reason but some people like the taste of carbs, as many popular food is high in carbs. If you aren't too far away from your preferred weight, meaning body fat percentage, eating carbs in small amounts isn't bad. It's not easy for some to stay on any particular diet if all of their lives they;ve eaten a certain way, so radical changes are best kept to those who really need to lose a lot of fat for health reasons. I've watched women all of my life skip breakfast, and they are the ones who have a hard time losing weight. You go so long without eating and you tend to overeat later in the day, when your body doesn't need so many calories like it does in the morning. -

Actually eating 4-5 small meals is better than 3 if you're actually eating "small" instead of normal sized ones. Your body will have a constant source of energy and not so much that it will be stored as fat. This is what I learned, taught and have done for 50 years, and it's always worked, and my family isn't known for fast metabolisms. Booze of course is sugar, and drinking calories is the fastest way to gain extra weight. Yes, Thai people are getting larger, and this will continue for a very long time, as more and more eat western food and all the sugar drinks 7-11's carry, along with the shops. Kids are taught from a very young age how not to eat, by parents who also don't know nutrition. -

You can use chicken broth if you are afraid of using oil, although a tiny bit of oil in a non stick pan will give flavor and not a lot of extra calories. -

Any of the green, leafy veggies you see in markets you can stir fry in a non stick pan with just a little oil, along with chicken with skin removed, lean beef or pork. Very easy to do and there's such a variety of veggies available you won't get bored so quick. You can find low sodium soy sauce also if sodium is a concern. It's the sweetened sauces that are the problem with food, including a traditional salad. Rice isn't a problem if you use a scoop, but the locals usually give you a plateful, as this is their staple and even though diabetes runs rampant here, going without rice would be sacrilege here. You can buy fish filet in most large supermarkets, and pan fry it like you do the veggies and other meat. Just a couple minutes a side. There are countless videos on youtube about stir frying and other recipes you can show your partner. -

Eating 5 small meals instead of three large ones, doesn't have you storing too much/ Cutting down on the rice, which is the mainstay here especially if you have a Thai wife, works because too many carbs, in the form of complex, has to burn before you burn stored fat. No need to stop eating carbs, especially if you're not too heavy. Stick with the salad greens, green and wax beans, spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, and a lot of the Thai greens you can buy here at market. Lean meat, eggs, fish, beef, pork. No fried foods. Grilled, broil or bake meat. Rice cereal, oatmeal, but small portions. Light soy or skim milk. Stay away from table sugar as much as possible. Use Stevia, Equal or Splenda, Stevia being the best choice. Of course exercising more helps. The best way is to completely stop drinking calories. Milk (besides in cereal), beer, wine, any alcohol ( I know bob,but if you're trying to do this as fast as possible), juices, sweetened tea or coffee. Don't eat less than 3 hours before you go to bed. This is worked for thousands of people during my training days, and will always work if you stick with it. Plus it's safe to do as long as you like. The Keto works, but cutting out all carbs is not a good idea.

Going short-time only, shallow or succulent?

Quite a few differences I would imagine. One, it's free at home. Two, you can't catch a disease from your hand. Three, you won't be ripped off at home or attacked by any friends of a hooker. Four, if you're married or in a relationship with another, you haven't cheated. -

Many people drink while smoking weed, and you might think irrational behavior is from the weed, but as he mentioned, it's usually alcohol that has people doing off the wall and dangerous things. Weed almost always mellows people, making them calm and sociable. All of my life, surrounded by those partaking in the smoke, I have never seen anyone going off from it alone, but alcohol? Yes, many times. I also have never seen or heard of anyone who was only smoking pot that caused an accident, although of course it might happen. This man was said to be drunk. Because he was in a weed shop, I'm thinking you thought it was weed from there that had him act this way. Most likely he went to the shop drunk, looking for weed, and for only reasons he knows, he stripped. -
Thai Dad Rams Car into Abusive Son-in-law, Injuring Bystanders
fredwiggy replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
Only mistake was using the car, as others got caught in the crossfire. Kudos for him coming to his daughters aid. Any dad should, as this happens way too often and they get away with it too much. Hopefully now the son in law knows what's coming if he's abusive again, although history shows he probably will. -

That tuna is okay but the ones I get back home are fantastic. Albacore in water in at least 4 brands. Chicken of the Sea, Wild Planet, Starkist are three. Here it's like the redder meat. Makro is where I first found celery. Now Lotus carries it but not all the time. Like the yellow peppers I get here that are good in salads. The best mushrooms are the really firm basic kinds, but here they haven't been firm and are better for soups. I couldn't find head lettuce unless I went to Makro also, but now Lotus has them most of the time. -

All I can find here are Ragu in a can, Agnesi, which isn't too bad, and a few others that are kinda plain. When I go back, I'll bring back Mom's, Rao's, Classico, Tuttorossi and a few others that are really good. Also canned tuna and sardines, I Cant Believe Its Not Butter Spray, Various cereals, Sourdough Pretzels, Orzo and Pastina pasta, and DVD's. -

Genetics is a major point but you can cut your time here short if you smoke, drink too much or carry too much extra fat. Eating healthy can lower your risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer, the three big killers. -

I always ate salads daily back in the US. Took me awhile to find the same ingredients here as the local stores aren't keen on foreign food. especially salad dressings. I brought back bottles of Kens and Paul Newmans from Texas, but ran out too quick. This year I'll bring back more. I still don't see much in the way of decent salad dressings here, along with pasta sauces, One here, one there, and not like I have back home. Just to find celery here took a long time. -

I could send a bunch of one liners like some do, but I'm not lazy and prefer to use paragraphs that have all the information I'm trying to get across. Remember, you don't have to read them. -

I'm not embarrassing myself standing up for protecting women and children, which is what I've been doing all along. The trade hurts all of them, in more ways than you know. Just because you don't understand this, doesn't make it wrong. You don't seem to realize that participating in this trade keeps it alive, and lets the traffickers ever closer to more of their spread. Of course many won't do anything about it, because they benefit from it. The same with anything else where a profit is made, from cereal with added sugar, to oil sales to getting votes for politicians, to this. Being blind to what goes on here is how it continues. I'm not going to stop this trade, but it will stop, as has been shown in other countries, if enough people get involved. Las Vegas is one of the very few places in the US where it's legal, and abuse and trafficking increased there. You might want to stand back and think about what you're saying, and try to understand what it is I am, because immorality is a huge reason so many things are wrong worldwide. I'm sure you know this. -
