  1. If I was disabled I would be seriously peeed off with all those able bodied Thais who queue to cram themselves into the lifts at the MRT stations such as Si Lom. I am not sure if they willingly give up space for disabled people or people with heavy luggage or children, but they shouldn't be allowed to use the lifts in the first place.

Disgusting laziness which will return to haunt them when they are older and and have health problems.

Walking up and down escalators can save your life!

  2. This is a favourite photo of mine of my Dad with my pet rat Desiree from 35 years ago. As you can see it was the last shot on a roll of film.

I asked a friend to try and repair the affected areas with Photoshop and this is the result.

I think what he did is fantastic, (sorry I don't have the details of what exactly he did).

    What do you guys think?

  3. I have recurrent problems with what might be prostatatis. The last time I visited a doctor the recommendation was that as I had tried several courses of antibiotics already (one month durations) that the infection was probably dealt with, and therefore he prescribed an anti-inflammatory drug to help the symptoms of discomfort to subside.

I took Celebrex 200 mg for about a month and during that period the problems I was experiencing did gradually subside completely. However they do tend to reappear after 3 to 6 months maybe due to the infection route as suggested in the posting above by Xylophone.

However I do find that Celebrex does help me, but I am careful not to continue using this drug for lengthy periods as I am aware of the risks.

  4. I have insurance with William Russell, a UK based international health insurance company. My premium is 2230 GBP a year, in-patient only with 1000 GBP excess. My age is 62 and the premium jumps in cost every 4 years

I know its a lot but it gives me peace of mind that I am covered anywhere in the world (excl US) and that it will also pay for UK in-patient costs, which many people will have to pay themselves these days unless they actually return to live in the UK.

  5. The way I read the situation is that Superrich are running short of pound notes due the unexpected demand caused by the sudden drop of the pound. This demand would be caused tourists and travellers planning on visiting the UK in the near future. In order to replace their stocks of pounds they are offering to buy your pounds off you at a higher rate than the banks TT rates.

So if you can bring enough pounds notes into Thailand you can beat the bank TT rates and come out a winner. But I doubt if it will be enough to pay for your holiday.

  6. At 13.20 today Supperrich posted GBP - Baht exchange rates as 48.80 buy, 49.40 sell

At 13.08 today Bangkok Bank posted GBP - Baht exchange rates for TT transactions as 46.75 buy and 47.71 sell

This seems to suggest that you can get GBP at TT rate of 47.71 baht to the pound at Bangkok bank and then rush around to exchange back at Superrich for a a rate of 48.80 baht to the pound.

What am I missing here? Is it just to do with bank charges?

  7. Don't pay any attention to the scare stories. The bugs have been hygienically cooked and sealed in packets and present no health threat.

I have taken them into the UK and so have my friends.

    Live dangerously!!!

  8. You are likely to get a severe case of diarrhea or dysentery or even E. coli just from licking one, never mind eating it. Just say NO.

    Rubbish!

Foodland and probably lots of other shops sell them. There are at least 2 or 3 varieties of bugs and larvae available in sealed packs. Look for the section selling dried food i.e. dried fish, meat, bananas etc.

Personally I think they mainly taste of burnt cooking oil, but many people go for them, even in England.

  9. I always thought those guys in the streets trying to scam tourists could be called Khon tom tun คน ต้ม ตุ๋น

    literally 'boil' and 'stew'.

  10. You won't get much help in exchange for a Starbucks coffee. It sucks in Thailand.

But to give you my experience for free, if you want to buy, walk around and identify the area you want to live in, then walk around and find some attractive condo buildings (usually identified from outside by mis-matching aircon units as opposed to matching aircons which usually means it's an apartment block with only rental units). And then walk into the management office and ask if there are any units on sale (or rent if you want).

Ask to look at the units, most sellers deposit keys with the office so they can help sell the unit. And the seller will normally pay any commission to the office (or agent) not the buyer.

    Take it from there.

  11. Consider getting carpeting put down in your home. The condo I bought had good quality carpets installed by the previous Thai owner and I love being able to walk around in bare feet. No painful soles or cold feet!

My carpets are over 15 years old, get professionally cleaned every 5 years or so and will probably outlast me. No smell, rot or other problems you might expect in a hot humid climate.

And the best thing is that I can drop watches, phones, glasses etc onto the surface and no breakages!

  12. A friend was telling me about a woman he saw in an airport. She pulled out a roll of cling film and then proceeded to wrap her suitcase all over herself.

Job done! Fraction of the machine cost!

  13. My condo complex has a strict no pets inside policy. The biggest problem we have/had was the flying rats, pigeons. They crap all over everything. There were a few stray cats around and the staff would throw them out whenever they could catch them. One of the condo committee big shots discovered that the cats were killing pigeons. They then decided that they would catch cats, neuter them and allow a couple cats in each condo building. The pigeon population has taken a big hit. People even enjoy having the cats around.

Thanks for this info. We do have several cats hanging around inside our condo but not really a nuisance apart from their occasional catawauling.

I will make a recommendation to the committee to 'adopt' and neuter them.
