It generally depends on whether or not operating room facilities are used with a period (even brief) of observation afterwards.

Cataract surgery as a day procedure is definitely covered, so is any other surgery requiring use of an Operating Room.

I had epidural spinal injections covered as a day surgery.

Simple incision & drainage, if done in doctor's office/outpatient clinic, would not be covered. A large I&D requiring use of OR would be.

Some policies cover endoscopies. I am not sure that April does, but you should ask broker.

Thx a lot. The use of operating room makes sense. Endoscopy is a good question i will check with them.

My assumption was they weren't covered since they are some kind of diagnostics but if they give something that needs operation then they would be.

But the out of pocket OP expenses are still tiny compared to buying it in insurance.

  2. Hi,

Basically I have IP only plan but I am still confused when I get some outpatient procedure done. Because some of these procedures are similar to day surgeries then how to know which one is which?

For example is I&D considered day patient procedure?

I know hospitalizations are covered but some of the procedures can be done without having to stay overnight. If I am not wrong, some of those are eligible too?

Perhaps @Sheryl can comment on this since we have the same insurance for IP treatments.

    Thanks a lot everyone.

  3. Hi,

Anyone knows which hospital one should go for the best cardiologist in Thailand? Ideally Bkk or pattaya.

Recently I started experiencing some irregular heartbeats mostly right after eating a big high carb meal in the evening, after a bit of fasting (still eating small stuff but not too much to consider even meals).

But today I also noticed the same feeling for the first time close to wake up time. When I visited a cardiologist before he told me they need to catch the irregular heartbeat to identify the type, and then decide what to do.

Any ideas? Thanks a lot in advance.

Also ask her to do nothing.

    Meaning no new TM30.

You have a TM30 that will cover you for extension.

Thx a lot I will ask her. I am still waiting for like 21 Aug in case they extend from application date.

Btw what reason I should put for the extension? I put 60 days but it asks reason in the main application from and also the affidavit.

If I remember right, people said to use the first choice on the affidavit? Then no need to write anything for reason on that form, just the main form?

You obtained a 30 day extension.

Normally you would apply for a covid extension couple of weeks prior to expiry of your permission of stay.

Be aware that some immigration offices were starting the 60 days from day of application for the first covid extension.

In that situation it would be best to apply as late as possible.

If you change address you would need to obtain a new TM30.

You can only obtain an extension at the immigration office where you are staying..

Thanks a lot I will do that. I will actually stay at the same place but I might change my room. That still requires a new TM30 right? I saw them write the room number in that paper they stapled onto the passport.

If the money was  sent (as opposed to claim approved... actually already transferred out by their finance people,) then should not take more than a couple of working days.

AA told me money was sent but they said April was slammed. So i hope they dont run me around circles because they said they will contact April about this.

I don't recall exactly but it was at least a few weeks.

Btw do you know how long it takes after they mark the claim as "reimbursed" for the money to hit your bank account?

I have a US bank account and they said roughly 10 days ago that they sent the money but still waiting. Because it's the first time I hope there is no issue with the details.

They told me they sent it from France but not sure what type of transfer it is. I gave them my name, bank SWIFT and account number. Hope that's enough.

    Ok clear now.

So obtain your 30 day extension.

You can do that up to couple weeks prior to your current stamp expiry.

Keep eye open for any news regarding covid extensions.

If anything is announced it would be very close to July 25.

If CE made available past July 25 then you could apply for one of those if required.

BTW you do not need to show embassy letter for covid extension.

Thanks a lot that helps a lot!

    Just to clarify.

Under what basis did you enter Thailand....visa exempt? Or...

Have you obtained the 30 day standard extension?

    Covid extensions are 60 days.

Currently due to stop July 25.

    That may be extended.

    Will have clarification soon

Oh yes visa exempt. I didnt get the 30 day extension yet. I will do that first next month as you recommended.

So I guess I will know more about if CE still exist after my 30 day extension ends. Should be Sep 7 or so for me.

Available to anyone that entered on visa exempt or tourist visa.

Note you need to obtain the standard 30 day extension prior to any covid extension

Thanks a lot! But now no need to get embassy letters or other documents? Last time I did it was hard and the last one I got was quite easy, just show up and get 60 day extension using this method.

I assume this is 30 days now?

If you are admitted then they will pay, yes.  So would BUPA. I don't know of any hospital that would not pay if hospitalized.  But they will all require pre-authorization for the hospitalization (or in an emergency, authorization as soon as possible i.e. they need to be notified at once).

There is no expectation that hospitalizations will entail surgery, most do not.

Thanks a lot for clearing that up. I was nervous it wouldn't be covered. I wish they had online app contacts though. I think some insurances allows you to contact them via webchat. That would be far easier in emergency instead of phone where sometimes calling internationally is just not possible.

  12. @Sheryl Thanks a lot that was helpful.

Do you also know if April pays if you go to emergency and you get hospitalized to monitor you or for your safety but not perform any surgery? For example maybe you felt chest pain and then they did some tests, couldn't find anything yet, but they said you need to be admitted to hospital for a day or 2 to be monitored and run diagnostics?

I know some insurance like Bupa doesn't pay for this unless you add OP benefits.

The clinic i go to on Pattaya Tai near crossroads of 3rd road, i think is linked to Banglamung hospital, it's a basic clinic but popular and not fake like many others with no doctors, it might even remove stitches

Do you know the name by any chance? The one I went was near Friendship market so it's near 3rd road, not sure if it's the same. There is one at the intersection there, and one another that's next to it.

The ones I went they said the doctor will come by 5pm.

@Sheryl Does April also pay for all the medicines prescribed due to IP procedure whether day patient plus all the medicines prescribed during follow up visits due to the same treatment within 1 month? I assume their 30 day coverage does this but just wanted to check in case I should ask the doctor to prescribe more meds before the 30 day cut off.

Try BUPA they provide worldwide coverage

I was just looking at their benefits last week and it has a lot of conditions that might make some claims hard to claim. But even beyond that I read that they also don't have any pre/post operation coverage unless you buy their outpatient module.
