The scam is the insurance only applies to being hospitalised. In January my wife tested positive at Phuket after arriving on an international flight. She was instructed to self isolate at our SHA+ hotel. I contacted the insurer and was told there was no cover for self isolation. So I bought a hotel room for her for 10 days. Two rooms were purchased by us for 10 days.

As one poster said, when was visiting a newborn Thai granny said “ Mai chai. Ferang mai dii.” That was about Covid fears. I dislike the implication that if you are a Ferang that you are vilified as a Covid vector.

I live in Chiang Mai. We went to Turkey at Xmas time. The day before our departure the gov pulls the rug out under the Bkk sandbox. We were undeterred and went anyway. We changed our Qatar flights from Istanbul to Bkk to Hkt. Easy as. To do the sandbox at Had Karon. My wife tests positive at Hkt. In day 7 of isolation. I am negative both tests. Thus double the accommodation costs. Our Tune insurance only covers hospitalisation costs not hotel isolation. Another insurance rort. she is getting better. Putting the unexpected Covid result aside, this was a good trip. I think the media has so hyped Covid anxiety that people fear travel not because of uncertainty but induced anxiety.

I rather doubt actual “scientists” are in a position to state the “real” position about the relative effectiveness of the vaccine. How would you theoretically determine this anyway? You would have to select a group or groups representing all of the vaccines or mixes and then conduct blood tests over the life “cycle” of the vaccine. Have you heard of this armchair scientists. I doubt it. As I said blah blah.

My story is that Aussie banks require an Aussie number for novel payee transactions by credit card. I can’t get an Aussie sim here because Telstra want an Aussie to go one of their dreadful stores. An Aussie pay as you go sim doesn’t work internationally. They tell me can’t use Thai number. Ok did an online transfer from a debit account, an OTP was sent to my Thai number. <deleted>.
