Picture: Siam Rath Chom Bung police in Ratchaburi, central Thailand, were called after a woman was found dead in the driver's seat of a Toyota Vios outside a house in Pak Chong sub-district. Siam Rath called it a mystery death. The deceased - in white shirt and pink trousers - had a blood stain on the left side of the chest. She was slumped to the left as though she had a broken neck. There were old wounds on her mouth where she had clearly required stitches. She was named as Thitiya. She'd been dead for at least 24 hours and was taken away for an autopsy. Uthen, her husband in the house, told police they loved to drink spirits every day and sometimes fought. But he had no idea when she had gone to the car to sleep. He said he had gone to bed the previous night because he was so drunk. When he saw her in the car in the morning he called out but there was no reply - he presumed she was just being standoffish and left her there. But at 2 pm he said he inquired further and found that she was dead and called police. There were many inconsistences in his story and he was taken away for further questioning at the police station. Investigators found dried blood by the front door and further bloodstains around the outside of the house. These were being examined for whom they belonged to. The local phu yai ban Wut Siriphin commented on the unusual injury that appeared to be a broken neck. He said that the couple were not known to him but were house sitting for relatives. They would always be seen drinking in the soi. He said he'd rather leave the investigation to the police than speculate. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-11 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Picture: Siam Rath Siam Rath published a story that was certainly not taking the "P" - they were deadly serious about the lottery. Snakecatchers in Suphanburi, central Thailand, got a call from a man called Sirawat, deputy mayor of Huay Wang Thong in Muang district, that a phython had got in and started eating pigeons in the municipal offices roof. Picture: Siam Rath It took 30 minutes before the 3.35 meter long pigeon fancier was in custody. He wasn't coming without a fight, however. One brave lady staffer advanced and gave the python a tickle declaring it lovely and soft. Picture: Siam Rath The deputy mayor didn't dare but reckoned lots of pigeons had been consumed. The numbers of the length of the snake - 335 - were deemed to be the answer to the next lottery draw, on Tuesday 16th August. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-11 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Anutin stressed that the government would still be continuing to supply the drugs. But from September 1st hospitals could contact supplies and registered distributors themselves. This would provide added convenience to the public, he claimed. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-11 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Bank staffer who stole 3 million baht arrested in NE - she'd become a NUN! Picture: INN INN reported that officers from Thailand's Economic Crime Division arrested a nun at a temple in Sakon Nakhon in the north eastern region. Picture: INN INN reported that officers from Thailand's Economic Crime Division arrested a nun at a temple in Sakon Nakhon in the north eastern region. Thitikan, 42, from Rayong, used to be in charge of customer accounts at a bank before she fled three arrest warrants in 2015. Crimes committed in February, June and December of the previous year allege that she stole from her employer, falsified documents and defrauded customers. She was picked up at Wat Pa Nong Phai in Muang district. She denied everything. The media reported that in 2014 Thitikan often visited her clients at their homes to gain added credibility. She used to fill in their slips and make deposits so they didn't even need to go to the bank. But she was entering the wrong amounts and creaming money off the top, it is alleged. She also came up with some completely bogus slips, forging signatures. But when a customer went into the branch irregularities were found. The total missing was 3 million baht. She got wise to the investigation and fled in time. Until the ECD discovered she had ordained as a nun in the NE and went to arrest her, that is. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-11 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Daily News Thai Caption: Danger lurks....outside your house Daily News reported on an alarming incident that happened late Tuesday night at the Bua Thong 4 housing estate in Bang Bua Thong, Nonthaburi. A Facebook post by a man said that his younger sister was alone in a house at 11.30 pm when a completely naked man arrived on a Honda Wave and asked her for a drink. She ran into the house. The post concluded that the police or relatives of the man should do something. Picture: Daily News The media caught up with Miss "A" who told them that she had only moved in this June. Just after 10pm she was putting things away outside her house that is used as a place to sell drinks. A completely naked man walked in and asked her repeatedly for a drink. Though profoundly shocked she said that she gave him a drink in a glass then ran inside and locked up. She immediately called her boyfriend to hurry over. While doing this the man was standing there naked enjoying his drink without an apparent care in the world. He then left on the bike. Picture: Daily News Further examination of CCTV showed a man aged about 30 who had parked his white and black Wave, removed his clothes then entered her property, where she lives alone. She was sure he must have cased the joint before to see her routine and realised she was alone. She suspected that he may have mental problems and asked for relatives to come forward and help him. She was sure he wasn't from around there. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-11 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. New seatbelt law: Police will go "softly softly" from Sept 5 - but fines are "at the discretion of the officer" Daily News Thai Caption: PR stressed at first Daily News reported on the comments of the deputy commander of the metropolitan police in Bangkok yesterday regarding the new seatbelt law that comes in next month. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1268536-new-seatbelt-law-police-will-go-softly-softly-from-sept-5-but-fines-are-at-the-discretion-of-the-officer/ -
Daily News Thai Caption: PR stressed at first Daily News reported on the comments of the deputy commander of the metropolitan police in Bangkok yesterday regarding the new seatbelt law that comes in next month. The media called September 5th "D-Day" - as they always do - but the devil was in the details, notes ASEAN NOW. These were typically wishy-washy indicating that the RTP hasn't really thought the issue through. The spokesman didn't even know what different car seats were. Pol Maj-Gen Jirasan Kaewsaeng-ek was sure about one thing - the law meant that EVERYONE in a car had to wear a seatbelt front or back. Unless the car was really old. Previously it was just the front meaning the driver and passenger. Regarding car seats for children he spoke of there being three kinds of restraining devices - "car seats, special seats and seats that stop danger". What these actually are was not clearly articulated (the press didn't press him). All he did say was that the RTP - of which he is of course a part and a spokesman - have yet to decide what car seat means. When that is sure it'll be implemented immediately, he said hopefully. One reasonably definitive point was that cars registered before January 1st 1988 that could not be fitted with seatbelts would be exempt. But his main point - and that picked up by the media in their headline - was that the police would only conduct a public information drive at first warning people that they all had to belt up. Though ominously for those that believe the new law will be a possible revenue stream for miscreants masquerading under the RTP badge, Jirasan said that this softly-softly approach "would be at the discretion of the officer on a case by case basis". -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-11 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Picture: Thai Rath Thai Rath reported that Yannawa police in downtown Bangkok received a call at 3pm yesterday that a 17 year old girl had fallen from the sixth floor balcony of a school building, the top floor. At the scene by the Chalerm Prakiat building of Satri Si Suriyothai school in Charoen Krung Soi 57, they found "B", from class 6/2 still breathing. She had head and leg wounds and was dressed in pink PE kit and brown trousers. She was given CPR at the scene then rushed to Lertsin Hospital but died there. Yannawa chief Pol Col Thanachote Rikdee said that everything had been normal, she had been doing activities with school friends. Friends and teachers said that B was a lively young lady with no apparent stress problems or issues that anyone was aware of. The parents were set to be interviewed to try and confirm this. The media noted that the balcony only has a one meter+ wall and it was possible that it was a complete accident. Investigations continue with police not willing to give any reason yet for the tragedy. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-11 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Murder mystery: Few new leads in double killing of Viet woman and Nigerian in Korat Daily News Caption : Motive for murder found Daily News carried a story about the latest developments in the murder of two foreigners in Chokechai district of Nakhon Ratchasima. Daily News Caption : Motive for murder found Daily News carried a story about the latest developments in the murder of two foreigners in Chokechai district of Nakhon Ratchasima. There were few. Two bodies were discovered encased in cement in a shallow grave in Thung Arun sub-district on July 28th. They were later named as a female called Ngyuyen, 33, from Vietnam and a Nigerian called Anabon, aged 38. Deputy RTP commander Pol Gen Suchart Theerasawat went to Korat again yesterday in an attempt to find out why they were murdered. The best that investigators could come up with was that it was connected to what the media referred to as "yaa narok" or 'the drug of hell'. This is usually Ya Ba in the media, notes ASEAN NOW. But they have discovered that the cement was a quick drying variety though inquiries at shops selling that have proved fruitless. It is also thought that the barrel of the gun used to shoot both victims in the head was ordered from abroad. The frame of the gun was also adapted. No details were given. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-11 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. by Paul Rujopakarn BANGKOK (NNT) - The Department of Disease Control (DDC) has indicated that it will remain vigilant in monitoring COVID mutations, even as the status of COVID-19 is set to be downgraded on October 1. DDC Director-General Dr Opas Karnkawinpong stated that from October 1 onwards, COVID-19 will be put on the Public Health Ministry’s list of communicable diseases under surveillance. The virus is currently classified as a dangerous communicable disease, as determined by the National Communicable Disease Committee (NCDC) in February 2020. According to the director-general, diseases on the communicable diseases under surveillance list must be reported to the ministry as soon as a new case is discovered. He reiterated that despite some other countries now treating the virus as any other general disease, ministry officials will keep a close eye on the situation to ensure that no new significant mutations emerge that pose health risks to the public. The director-general also said authorities are still closely assessing the current situation before considering lifting the remaining restrictions. He still advises the public to maintain prevention measures such as social distancing and wearing masks, especially for vulnerable groups who are prone to severe COVID conditions.
