  5. The 2022 Hua Hin & Cha-Am Golf Festival Opens With An Optimistic Outlook By Editor Both before and during recent Covid-related restrictions, the Hua Hin & Cha-Am Golf Festival may have been in danger of losing its appeal, both to local and visiting golfers. 6. By Editor Both before and during recent Covid-related restrictions, the Hua Hin & Cha-Am Golf Festival may have been in danger of losing its appeal, both to local and visiting golfers. However at the official opening at the Seapine Golf Course on 7th August, an optimistic outlook for the future of the event has emerged. The opening ceremony of the 2022 Festival, now underway until the end of September, was attended by a big contingency from the organising body, the Phetchaburi & Prachuap Khiri Khan Golf Association, as well as the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). The TAT presence included Mr. Tanes Petsuwan, Deputy Governor for International Marketing, Asia and the South Pacific and Mr.Isra Stapanaseth, Director of the Prachuap Khiri Khan office. Although the TAT has long been a supporter of the event, that support may have been more tacit than with practical sponsorship. Apart from sponsorship possibilities, the TAT has the ability to promote the event through their network of offices worldwide. Khun Isra agrees that this could make a big difference, however significant planning is needed. In the past, the event has suffered due to the late release of information; providing overseas golfers only a few weeks’ notice has meant an to attract overseas travellers has not been fully realised. It may be noted that both of these important TAT figures are keen golfers. Khun Isra, who was ready to play in the day’s event admits to having a 24 handicap, with Khun Tanes known as ‘Mr Golf.’ Mr. Tanes Petsuwan, TAT Deputy Governor for International Marketing, Asia and the South Pacific (left) and Stacey Walton, President of SKÅL International Hua Hin & Cha Am (right). Stacey Walton, President of SKÅL International Hua Hin & Cha Am, was in attendance and eager to promote future events through that Club’s extensive network. SKÅL is now an event sponsor with Stacey in attendance at the opening. He says “this is a fantastic opportunity to promote golf that is available here in Thailand’s renowned ‘Royal Resort’. Many of our SKÅL members are keen golfers and as such we warmly welcome the return of this event which we’re confident will help us to rebuild tourism here in Hua Hin after the pandemic.” Another important additional sponsor this year is the Surf & Sand Resort with Sam Sheriff as a major local golf event organiser. A contingency from the Hua Hin & Cha-Am Tourism Association, including President Mrs. Wassana Srikanchana, also added their support. Despite an optimistic outlook for the Golf Festival, noted absentees from the list of participating golf courses this year are Banyan and Black Mountain Golf Courses. No explanation for the non-participation of these significant award winning courses has been offered, albeit there have been recent management changes at Banyan. To secure the future of this important event as a big contributor for the future of regional golf tourism, golf course cooperation, event planning, marketing and active sponsorship may be key. According to Deputy Government Spokesperson Rachada Dhnadirek, the number of EV charging stations nationwide will increase from 944 to 1,394 over the next nine years. The resolution followed a study conducted by the Ministry of Energy to boost EV production in the kingdom. The spokesperson added that the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) have established a testing and certification center for high-voltage chargers for EVs and other devices. The center opened on July 15, allowing local manufacturers to cut costs and accelerate EV development by eliminating the need to send their products to be certified in other countries. This would help the domestic EV industry and support the government’s goal of becoming a leading country in regard to the electric vehicle sector.
