Daily News Thai Caption: For just a handful of galangal A 70 year old grandmother in Sakon Nakhon, NE Thailand, is appealing for justice after she found herself facing a charge of theft. From Chaweewan's perspective she was just collecting a handful of galangal from an area of wasteground the locals all use and forage in. From the perspective of the owner they regard it as theft, reported Daily News. Chaweewan said the case relates back to June 11th when she popped into the area, essentially a wasteground, and picked a few sprigs of the plant for her curry. The owner of the land was called and caught her in the act and a charge of theft while using a conveyance was made with the Phang Khone police. The owner of the land is insisting that Chaweewan comes up with 5,000 baht as a restitution payment or they will see the matter goes through the courts. Chaweewan claims she is innocent and is feeling terrible about her plight. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-07-22 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Picture: Thai Rath The customs department of Thailand held a press conference in the wake of the liberalization on marijuana and hemp products last month. They wanted to put the record straight for producers and users of weed how customs are treating the issue. The strongest message from spokesman Chaiyuth Khamkhun yesterday was that importers must conform to all requirements that will be followed to the letter. Smuggling and misrepresenting goods are serious offences that can carry ten year custodial sentences. He pointedly warned casual users from taking the drug out of Thailand, reported Thai Rath. Customs wouldn't do anything in Thailand but the importation of the drug into other countries remains illegal with some cases facing the death penalty. The story by Thai Rath also noted a parallel development in which health minister and DPM and the man behind the political push for legalization Anutin Charnvirakul continued to be involved. The media said that the DPM reported an order from the National Tobacco Products Control Board regarding the banning of tobacco products mixed with marijuana and hemp. The same organization reiterated its opposition to the use of e-cigarettes and vaping devices in Thailand. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-07-22 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Daily News Thai Caption: Just adding content Daily News went to investigate as the story about "pretties" - Thai PR ladies - in fishtanks gained traction turning from a light hearted romp into a more serious drama. The whole appropriateness of the venture was being discussed online. Owner of Arowana Mall in JJ Mall Chatuchak Attachai Atdoddorn, 28, said he was just making content for publicity purposes. He'd invited 20 pretties and net idols to promote his business and girls posing in the tanks were just a part of the opening show. Two appeared with a fish worth a "seven figure" sum he said and it was only a few minutes in a tank measuring 36 inches by 84 inches. Picture: Daily News There was also a mini concert by Thai female singer Katreeya English. He admitted calling his pretties "mermaids" in the promotional literature. Attachai noted that five minutes of "mermaid" power had given his business enormous advertising both from Thais and foreigners. Many had come to the shop inquiring about the mermaids - they were told the promo event was over. All that were left were the fancy fish - the girls had moved on. He defended his decision to put the girls in the tanks saying that it was just good advertising - the fish were fine. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-07-22 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Picture: Thai Rath A survey by the university of the Thai Chamber of Commerce found respondents split in their attitude towards the liberalization of the use of marijuana and hemp. 58.3% opposed the move (that has already happened on June 9th) and 41.7% were in favor. The anti-camp cited affects on youth and children yet this has already been addressed with bans on weed products for under 20s already widespread. The pro-camp cited medical use as well as recreational as positive factors though respondents wanted laws to regulate use in place as soon as possible, reported Thai Rath. At the moment 7,500 rai of land have been planted. The chamber of commerce says that the business is worth 2.8 billion baht now and will rise to 4.2 million baht in three years. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-07-22 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. By Thanaphum Charoensombatpanich Thailand could welcome as many as 10 million tourists during this year if the current influx of tourist numbers continues, a move that could help spur the tourism industry, a key backbone to the economy that has been hammered due to the impact from the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus. “Our aim is to raise the tourism numbers to 7-10 million from initial projection of 2-3 million tourists,” 2014 coup leader and incumbent Prime Minister told the parliament during the no-confidence debate late yesterday. Prayut, who was trying to defend against the allegations made by the opposition for the past 2-days of grounding the Thai economy to its knees, said that his efforts to lure more tourists into the country was being hampered by the shortage of aircrafts, rising fuel prices that have pushed up ticket prices and the continued restrictions from Thailand’s largest tourist market – China.
