  8. People in and around Bangkok are advised to prepare for heavy rain from today (Thursday) until the weekend, after the city was lashed by sustained heavy downpours last night, causing flooding in several areas and inconvenience for many commuters and motorists. The Meteorological Department says the increased precipitation is due to an intensified monsoon trough over the northern region approaching a low pressure cell looming over the north-eastern region, which is compounded by the moderate southwestern monsoon over the Gulf of Thailand, the Andaman Sea and southern region. Most of Sukhumvit Road was turned into a canal late last night, making it impassable for many cars and motorcycles. Commuters said that they could not find a single taxi or bus after having waited for several hours, while some motorists said they preferred to park their cars rather than battling through the flooded roads, which may be expensive if their car breaks down. 10. Picture: Siam Rath One of the most famous pantomime villians of the last ten years in Thailand was the much written about Lady Kai (Mrs Chicken) or Ying Kai in Thai. She fell foul - or should that be fowl - of many laws not least of all a serious one after she pretended to be a princess. All sorts of mischief was attached to the wannabe hiso's name and it was assumed after a prison term and her release that she would melt into the shadows. Not a bit of it. Siam Rath clearly saw a photo of Saranya Uppatasanti getting a Prada bag in Milan. They asked her about being sued by a 79 year old former professor at a Pak Klong Talad school for fraud as being no problem. No police report has been filed in the matter. About being pictured with a former prime minister - this one might be called Tony - she said that her lawyers were keeping tabs on that one. She said she had paid her dues to society and now wanted a quiet life. If there's any news she promised to tell the press. She was just in town to get "a bag or two". -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-07-21 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 12. Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has admitted to being the individual behind the May 2014 coup in Thailand, as he raised his hand, quite proudly, when referred to by his Deputy Prawit Wongsuwan, during the second day of censure debate yesterday (Wednesday). Prawit, was defending himself against the Opposition’s claims of his role in the coup and the luxury watches he claimed had been borrowed from his friend and had not declared as assets. The prime minister’s smiling response to Prawit’s claim provoked and outbreak of laughter in the House. After the parliamentary session, Prayut told reporters, “I need to take the responsibility, because I did it.” Prawit told parliament that Prayut Chan-o-cha was responsible for the putsch, which toppled the elected caretaker government of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, who had already been removed due to a court case against her controversial rice pledging policy. 16. Daily News Thai Cap: Shock! Daily News reported that Thai social media was in right hubbub over a TikTok post. A lady who had been eating in a Khao Tom (boiled rice with condiments) shop had the need for the loos. What she found there was a "khan' or scooping up bowl floating in the water. But on closer inspection. Picture: Daily News Two rather nice size fish - a sawai and a sucker it appeared. The poster wondered whether she should order them for dinner. The rest of PTSM (Planet Thai Social Media) made facetious and amusing comments like "make mine khao tom plaa 1 jaan kha" and "after eating you went back and found they were gone". Maybe ASEAN NOW readers can come up with some fishy puns.... -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-07-21 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 20. Picture: Siam Rath Firebrand former politician Chuwit Kamolwisit went on his personal Facebook page to deliver some scathing remarks about the no confidence debate raging in the House. And some cryptic and less cryptic messages of support and opposition. Describing a corrupt system he said that politics never taught anyone to be any good. Politics turns doctors who treat humans into witch doctors - mor phee. Turning to politics corrupts even the good in a single night. He described Capt Tammanat as a complainer. He said that fighters get wounds and politicians should know how to lose, how to know when they are beaten. But also you must know who your enemies are and who are your friends, keep them close but in differing camps, continued the wily former politician. Then in a Thai way he essentially said "keep your powder keg dry ready for firing". Chuwit then predicted confidently that Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul would come out smelling the sweetest from the no confidence debate, reported Siam Rath. He would get the most votes of confidence. He alluded to another from Saraburi related to the letters อ (or) and ช (chor) who would do less well. Chuwit - also a convicted felon - is the go to person in the Thai media for alternative political opinion that many take as gospel, notes ASEAN NOW. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-07-21 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. But the story - a first of its kind following June 9th - begged the question as to what would happen to the three suspects now that Thailand has let people out of prison and the government are liberalizing many aspects of the weed industry. Picture: Siam Rath Jira, 24, from Bangkok, Racha, also 24 from Nonthaburi and Pongsa, 26, from Udon Thani were arrested by navy personnel who had been tipped off about a delivery from Laos at 5 am. The three suspects had parked their adapted Isuzu by a temple crematorium in Ban Huay Dockmai village and waited. Men arrived in a boat from Laos further upstream and dumped several sacks. The suspects then collected the sacks and have been charged with smuggling and evading duty. This charge can mean jail for up to ten years but also/or entails a fine of four times the value of the goods. Picture: Siam Rath This is being assessed as between 3,500 to 5,000 baht a kilo. In addition stamp duty of 4.2 baht a kilo and tax to the tune of 7% needs to be paid. The police said all suspects were given bail in the sum of 150,000 baht each. One of the suspects said that he was offered to carry the drugs from the border to Nonthaburi by a person he named only as "O". He roped in two buddies for the trip that took them a full day's drive to Bung Kan from Bangkok. They then slept waiting for a phone call that the drugs had arrived. For this they were paid 10,000 baht each, 30,000 baht in total. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-07-21 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
