by Na-ark Rojanasuvan BANGKOK (NNT) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration announced that entertainment venues that wish to operate after June 1st must pass a test according to the Thai Stop COVID 2 PLUS safety standard and obtain permission from related governmental units. Maratee Nalita Andamo, Director of the News Division of the Department of Information of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made the announcement during this week’s press briefing of the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA). She reminded establishment owners that all of their staffers and customers must be fully vaccinated. Keep up to date with all things Thailand - Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe The Ministry of Public Health maintains the alert level for COVID-19 at level 3 although it does plan to lower it to level 2 in the near future. The move will place more emphasis on severe cases and prevention measures for at-risk groups than on enforcing the restrictions on the general public. Additionally, the director expressed gratitude to the Kingdom of Denmark for donating 1.266 million doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to Thailand on May 26th. The gesture reflected the long-standing and close bond between the two Kingdoms. The jabs will be given to Thais and foreigners, and to those residing along the Thai borders. -- © Copyright NNT 2022-06-03 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Thai police teaching students to respect the Highway Code - cops get kids to paint "safe" Zebra Crossing Daily News Thai Caption: Zebra crossings are safe! Daily News Thai Caption: Zebra crossings are safe! Daily News reported that the Royal Thai Police are teaching students to "cultivate values of respect for traffic rules". Especially at Zebra crossings. This after a female opthalmologist was killed on such a crossing in Bangkok in February by a speeding POLICEMAN on a Ducati, notes ASEAN NOW. He's been convicted. But few in Thailand would suggest that Thais have learned their lesson about respecting the crossings. Yesterday Korat's Wang Nam Khiaw police led by Pol Col Pheerapong Thanaphochai along with Ban Thai Samakhee school director Pornthip Phujan were teaching students about respecting the rules. Picture: Daily News Both in terms of being good pedestrians and good drivers. Kids were seen painting the markings on the road outside the school in Ban Thai Samakhee, NE Thailand. Pheerapong said that RTP chief Pol Gen Suwat Chaengyodsuk and his deputy in charge of traffic Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittipraphat wanted everyone to follow traffic rules because of the amount of death and damage on the roads. So he was taking part in a national drive to teach cultural values and respect for the Highway Code and other traffic rules. ASEAN NOW notes that the media saw no irony in this. Keep up to date with all things Thailand - Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe Picture: Daily News Anyone who has spent time in Thailand will routinely see police disobeying traffic rules by going the wrong way or not wearing helmets. And the force is perpetually criticised for doing very little law enforcement in this matter. The story smacked of "the pot calling the kettle black". While a caption on the photo in the article said that zebra crossings were safe - only a fool would believe that, we further suggest. On the plus side it is good that students are being taught something positive about the roads. Many underage routinely turn up for class illegally riding bikes without helmets only to be waved through by the cops. Occasionally they are made to do jumping jacks by the side of the road instead of paying fines. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-06-03 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Daily News Thai Caption: Put on your masks Daily News reported that rules regarding the wearing of face masks were back on again in Phuket after they had been stopped. The reason was fear of Covid outbreaks. Now it's back to the original plan. The media said that Phuket was the first province to pilot not wearing masks and the order to stop their wearing from June 1st was quite clear. Keep up to date with all things Thailand - Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe Picture: Picture: Daily News Advice from medics scuppered that. The order came yesterday just one day after the new rule was started. It is effective immediately. They have to be worn outside and on private transport. Nong Khai Reports 2,000 Daily Arrivals After Border Reopening by Krajangwit Johjit NONG KHAI (NNT) - Thai authorities in Nong Khai province said there have been more than 2,000 daily arrivals ever since the reopening of its Thai-Laos border checkpoint. by Krajangwit Johjit NONG KHAI (NNT) - Thai authorities in Nong Khai province said there have been more than 2,000 daily arrivals ever since the reopening of its Thai-Laos border checkpoint. Nong Khai Customs House reported that over 30,000 foreigners passed through its border checkpoint between May 9 and May 31, while 28,000 Thais crossed into Laos during the same period. Following the reopening of the border checkpoint, more than 2,000 people enter the country per day, up from 300 daily arrivals prior to the lifting of travel restrictions. Keep up to date with all things Thailand - Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe The Customs House also reported that 5,500 vehicles with foreign license plates have entered Thailand while 1,700 cars from Thailand have crossed into the neighboring country. Aside from entering Thailand for business and travel reasons, it was reported that these visitors came to refuel at Thai petrol stations before crossing back since the retail price in Laos is higher than the price in Thailand. Based on a currency exchange rate of 450 Lao kips per baht, the retail price of benzine 95 octane in Laos is 52.82 baht per liter while the price in Thailand is 51.91 baht per liter. Diesel price in Thailand is also lower than in Laos, prompting more cars to cross into Nong Khai for refueling before going back to Vientiane in Laos, which is only 25 kilometers away from the province. -- © Copyright NNT 2022-06-03 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Picture: Thai Rath Thai Rath reported on what they referred to as a dreadful murder of a grandmother and her 19 year old granddaughter at a house under construction in Wapi Pathum district of Maha Sarakham province, north eastern Thailand. Their heads were bashed in with a blunt object. The younger woman's neck had apparently been strangled with an electrical cord. The assailant stole two phones but left a gold ring. Whether the motive was theft or sexual assault is not yet clear. It happened in the Wai sub-district where Nakha police went at 9 am last night along with medics. The house had windows but no front or back door. On the second floor was Thongkhoon, 75, on a mat in a sarong. She had head injuries. Next to her was Thassanee, 19, on a mattress dressed in t-shirt and shorts. There were signs of strangulation along with head injuries. Bloodstains were found on a charging cord. Forensics were on the scene gathering fingerprints but were unable to tell as yet precisely what had happened. A friend of Thassanee or Yok, said they would go to study together every day but she was not home so she went to find her at her gran's house. She fainted when she saw what had happened to her friend. A male friend said he spoke to her on the phone at 12.20 am and she said she was going to bed. She didn't answer calls in the morning so he sent her a text message saying to meet at college. That's when he found out she'd been murdered. Pranee, 48, Yok's mother, said that at 6.30 am she called her daughter as it was getting late to get ready to go to Wapi Pathum Technical College. She went to her mother's house and found the bodies. Her daughter usually lived with her but had gone to her gran's to be a friend while her house was under construction. Nothing like this had ever happened in the area. She suspected planning - a dog had been poisoned three days ago. Deputy chief of the Maha Sarakham police Pol Col Thawatchai Satyaphat said it was a horrendous crime and the provincial authorities were working with the local force. Two young men in the village have been interviewed. The motive could be sexual or robbery. All those involved in the construction of the house are being interviewed. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-06-03 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
