Officials from the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) in Thailand’s eastern province of Sa Kaeo have launched an investigation into the installation of fancy lamp posts in their area, following the discovery of similar lamp posts being installed in many other provinces last year. The posts, topped with the half bird half human Kinnara figurine, were installed very close to each other along a 100-metre stretch of a small road, which runs beside the Phra Sathueng Canal, and their bases were covered with thick grass. The project is said to have been worth 10.5 million baht and it was completed in 2017. The director of the Sa Kaeo NACC Office and his officials conducted a field inspection of the fancy lamp posts yesterday (Wednesday), following social media posts questioning the project. Times change, so must Covid approach, muses Dr Yong Picture: Saim Rath Top Chulalongkorn virologist Dr Yong Poovorawan was in philosophical mood on his Facebook page yesterday. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1254510-times-change-so-must-covid-approach-muses-dr-yong/ -
Picture: Siam Rath Top Chulalongkorn virologist Dr Yong Poovorawan was in philosophical mood on his Facebook page yesterday. Siam Rath quoted him as saying that "times change so must our approach to living with and dealing with Covid" Gone were the days of trying to stop the virus to protect the health system. Gone were the days of lockdown, quarantine and isolation. Now we were in a different place that was opening up. It was time to protect the most vulnerable, like the sick and elderly, and just learn to live with the virus. Keep up to date with all things Thailand - Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe In particular schools must open for the next semester - in May - after many had been closed for the best part of two years, said Dr Yong. Large numbers of people had been vaxxed and now numbers were going up but severe symptoms were few. For most it might be a heavy cold or mild flu. Thailand needs to get back to normal as much as possible while still being mindful of the most at risk in society.
