Repeatedly wearing the same face mask can put you at risk of serious, possibly fatal illnesses, due to the build-up of bacteria within the mask. Thailand’s Anti-Fake News Centre has confirmed that this is true information and cited data from the Health Department of the Public Health Ministry. Following the widespread circulation of this warning online, the department explained that surgical face masks should not to be washed and reused, as they are considered to be infectious waste. Therefore, such masks should be disposed of properly in a trash can with a lid. Face masks made from cloth, however, should be washed every day, with either soap or detergent, and allowed to dry in sunlight. Centipede found in "famous brand" of tinned fish Picture: Siam Rath A Thai mum called in the media after her daughter found something suspicious in a well-known brand of tinned fish. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1254261-centipede-found-in-famous-brand-of-tinned-fish/ -
Picture: Siam Rath A Thai mum called in the media after her daughter found something suspicious in a well-known brand of tinned fish. It looked a bit like fish bones but on closer inspection there was no doubt - it was a centipede. Wilaiwan, who had ordered two tins of fish in a delivery from a convenience store, immediately contacted the company who produced the fish and was told to wait a week then someone would come round. Why did I have to wait a week, thought mum. Fearing that the centipede would be shrivelled up by that time she turned to Siam Rath. Keep up to date with all things Thailand - Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe When their reporter arrived at the house in Thatoom, Prachinburi, and called the sales rep at the company they said: "We're on our way immediately". Wilaiwan said it was just as well her 12 year old daughter Patthitta is so observant. She wants the company to investigate and improve their production methods. And she'll be checking every tin of tinned fish from now on. Not surprisingly in defamation crazy Thailand the brand of fish was not mentioned. Consumers can find themselves facing lawsuits just for complaining or stating the truth, notes ASEAN NOW. Picture: Daily News Daily News reported on a drama that played out in Photaram police jurisdiction in the central Thai province of Ratchaburi yesterday. The police contacted several fire stations in the area after reports of a two story house on fire opposite the Soi Fah municipal offices. The house belonging to 37 year old Soraphat who lived there alone was destroyed. Keep up to date with all things Thailand - Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe He had just got out of jail after serving time for drugs offences. Neighbors said he'd already tried to burn his house down but they had stopped it. On this occasion he had been successful then in what appeared to be a drug fueled, paranoid state he fled on his motorcycle. Picture: Daily News It was soon apparent where he had gone - to his elder sister's place 400 meters away. There he was brandishing a hoe and an Itoh knife smashing up three of her vehicles and the windows. "I'm not afraid of you!" he shouted at police. "Shoot me for all I care". Relatives came round to try and persuade him to give up. He didn't. He then started a fire with plastic and shoes in an apparent attempt to burn down his sister's house. A fire truck blasted this with water to put out the blaze. The sister returned and tried and failed to calm her brother who, while distracted, was subdued with water from a hose as cops with antiriot sticks moved in. He has been charged with attempted arson and criminal damage so he can be held. He was also tested for drugs. Picture: Thai Rath The Thai forestry official who attacked his ex girlfriend's car and house in Pakham district of Buriram in Thailand's NE has been found dead. Former colleagues of Phitphirun, 45, who were searching for him found him hanging from a tree in the Dong Yai forested area. Phitphirun was the ex of Kanya Anthaisong, 37. In the attack he shot and killed her son Natthapong after shooting him in the face when he came out of a room. We earlier reported that Kanya was staying with her foreign partner at the time on a yearly visit. Keep up to date with all things Thailand - Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe Kanya told Thai Rath that she was surprised that her former lover took this way out. She thought he'd be too scared to do that. Picture: Thai Rath But she accepted it was the end of the matter - a life for a life. She recounted how she could smell her son everywhere she went even though the family had moved out of the house since the attack the weekend before last fearing Phitphirun or Klaep would return. She said she would pay her respects to the corpse but would take no active part in the funeral as her ex's relatives from Amnat Charoen had made no attempt to help her since the shooting. She said that she thinks his forestry unit - a government department - should pay her compensation as they were negligent in allowing a gun to be taken and a pick-up. The body - apparently a suicide - was found after a search mounted by the dead man's former colleague Phai Chertram who had joined with six others to search a new area. He was sad that his close friend had chosen this way out rather than facing the law. He said that he had spoken to him about his wish to make a life with Kanya by selling up assets and looking after her. The body was found 2-3 kilometers from an office in the Pa Roi Roo area. He was sure it was Phitpirun beause a gun from the office was by a tree and his clothes all matched. Police have been informed. No mention was made of the foreigner in the story. Daily News Thai Caption Thai social media was abuzz with comment after a woman went on Facebook to complain about a backyard swimming pool she ordered. It turned into a pandemic nightmare! Nantawan Damrika said the family in Petchaburi were obliged to hunker down at home so they thought about getting a pool, reported Daily News. Picture: Daily News They thought they had done their Google and Facebook research well in identifying a company that had installed dozens of swanky looking pools in Hua Hin. At least according to the advertising blurb. In addition the company - (please Inbox us if you want to know the name, she said) - responded promptly to queries. So in January last year they agreed to part with 297,000 baht for a fiberglass pool, size 5.9 m x 2.3 m, with a 'skimmer' pump. Picture: Daily News After a series of miscommunications they soon realised that the people subcontracted by the company were a bunch of what British people call "cowboys". Poor tradesmen. When they complained that the pool was leaning they were told "that's normal". Picture: Daily News When they moaned about the water being green they were informed: "That's not our problem". When they threatened to write a bad review on the company's page they were told: "Do that and we'll have you in court". Keep up to date with all things Thailand - Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe So they were not about to reveal the name of the firm in defamation crazy Thailand where the customer is invariably wrong! Now they are left with a buckled pool that is a complete mess and wanted to know what other consumers would do to get redress. By Caleb Quinley As Russia continues its invasion of Ukraine, western governments are grappling with how to assist the Ukrainian people and stop Putin’s deadly war. So far, the West’s weapon of choice has been the implementation of massive economic sanctions aimed at forcing the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, to stop the invasion. But experts say that sanctions won’t be able to cripple the Kremlin enough to end the conflict. The sanctions are affecting many of those who have chosen to live and work in Thailand and countless Russians are now finding themselves stranded. Not only are many experiencing financial burdens, multiple Russian citizens told Thai Enquirer that they are facing discrimination. Sanook Thai Caption: Short haired man in the car The Thai press are clamoring for details in a story being lapped up by the Thai public. Both Sanook and Daily News featured it after appeals were made via the "Save Sai Mai" page. A couple were having sex in a car in a closed market - AC in Sai Mai, Bangkok - about 1 am. This often happens at the market, it was widely reported. Daily News Thai Caption: Criminal Case The head of security went to investigate but couldn't see inside because of film on the windows. When the driver wound down the window he was told angrily: "What do you want mate?" The driver had short hair. There was a lady about aged 20 on the seat next to him. They were apparently both wearing masks but the security man was sure he could subsequently recognise them. Keep up to date with all things Thailand - Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe All would have been well if the couple had just left as requested. Instead they drove into the security man and damaged his motorcycle. The Sai Mai police are now involved. The owner of the vehicle said she lent it to a friend and they lent it to someone else. She tried to settle it with the security guard but the police said that is impossible as a criminal offence was committed because of the damage. Daily News Thai Caption: International "Ice" bust All the press were invited to Songkhla yesterday for a big photo opportunity for local police and officials to celebrate a crystal meth or "ice" bust in the southern Thai province. But despite the bluster it was just a couple of mules who were arrested - the bigger fish got away again. Daily News reported that provincial governor Jessada Jitsan was at Region 4 HQ along with a long list of RTP top brass, too numerous to mention here. They had seized 585 kilos of ice worth 117 million baht that would fetch half a billion baht if it had got abroad as intended. Pollawat, 33, and his girlfriend Saranya were nabbed. They are natives of Rattaphum district in Songkhla. Keep up to date with all things Thailand - Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe Houses were searched and the drugs were found concealed in electric fryers. Also taken into evidence was a gun and ammunition, six phones and SIM cards and an Isuzu pick-up. But two men named as Aphisit and Abdolunat managed to get wise and flee from the authorities in time. Picture: Daily News Also nowhere to be found was the big player behind the intended shipment abroad, a man called Chollee. He and the two others remain at large with an arrest warrant out for Chollee. Pollawat said this was the fifth time that he'd been involved in such a deal. He was paid just 100,000 baht for his involvement showing just how far down the gang's chain of command he is.
