  5. 38-year-old South Korean hotelier Mr Kyoung Cheon or Kim was found dead on Saturday last by a housekeeper at the hotel. His sister Ms Saron Jeon told police that her brother had complained this week of weakness in his left arm after having just received his second COVID-19 vaccine dose. by Carla Boonkong & Pranee O' Connor Complaints filed with the Emergency Health Hazard and Disease Control Division of the Department of Disease Control at the Ministry of Public Health allege 2,081 deaths after over 120 million vaccine doses were administered up to February 13th last or just 0.00173%. Even so, officials, however, in nearly all cases reported, have ruled out links to the vaccines and in many cases attributed the deaths to concomitant events. Only 4 deaths have been confirmed by the ministry as being related to the vaccines or a minuscule 0.000003% and an even lower level in relation to reported adverse reactions. A South Korean hotelier was found dead on Saturday in Kanchanaburi at his hotel in what police initially indicated were non-suspicious circumstances. His sister told officers that the 38-year-old man had complained in the days running up to his death of a weakness in his arm after recently receiving his second COVID-19 vaccine dose. It comes as Thailand’s Department of Disease Control has released figures which show a very low level of confirmed adverse reactions to over 120 million COVID-19 vaccines administered in the country. The relatively low level of complaints filed concerning deaths allegedly caused by the vaccination drive with the control division at the Ministry of Public Health is driven even lower as medical experts have, so far, only conceded 4 deaths. 7. Former New Economics Party leader Mingkwan Saengsuwan shocked Parliament when he resigned as a party-list MP during the debate to scrutinize the Prayut government last week. Mingkwan explained that he was unhappy with his legislative role over the past two years. But this is not the end of his political career, as he said he would continue his activities and prepare for the next election. “We [New Economics Party] had announced our political stance of not joining Prayut [Chan-o-cha’s] government. But the government added two new terms to the political dictionary – ‘cobras’ and ‘monkeys eat bananas’. I want to ask the prime minister what he did to those MPs so that they switched their stances and broke their promise to voters,” said Mingkwan, speaking with a shaky voice and brimming eyes during the debate on Feb 17. The Prayut coalition government was formed with a razor-thin majority. During its first few years, the government sought extra support from MPs in the opposition camp, sometimes via questionable tactics. 9. Picture: Thai Rath Police at Kannayao police station in Bangkok said they found no evidence of gambling at a temple fair next to their station. Pol Col Naren Khreuangsanuk said his men had been patrolling the Wat Khu Bon fair regularly and found nothing untoward going on, reported Thai Rath. The temple is at the center of a big story in the Thai press after a call center owning woman - who chases other people's debts - lost nearly 300,000 baht after she said she was pressured by a gang into taking part in a gambling game at the fair. Sirilak Charoenkitcharoen, 41, said she was on her way home and decided to drop in at the fair. After she passed the " darts and balloons" stalls she said she saw a table set up and a lot of people surrounding it that gained her interest. In no time she said she was surrounded by burly gentlemen and found herself being urged to gamble on a coin tossing game called "38". She claimed she was unable to get away. A coin with 3 on one side and 8 on the over is tossed under cover and people are urged to predict what number is showing. She said she lost 6,000 baht at first then said she had no more cash. No worries, said the people there, she could transfer it to their account. Picture: Thai Rath In the next ten spins she didn't win once and progressively lost more and more from 10,000 baht to 30,000 and 50,000 finally parting with 100,000 baht and losing nearly 300K in total. Legitimate stallholders at the fair said they had been forced to pack up shop because of the bad press. Only food sellers were left. The group responsible for the gambling game move around from place to place. Police promised to investigate any wrongdoing and prosecute as necessary. A Pheu Thai MP's aide has got involved starting a campaign called "Save Sai Mai" after the area where the incident occurred. Prisons: 162 ▶︎ Recoveries: 14,914 Monday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 2,731,198 with 22,656 deaths. The news comes as respected virologist Dr. Yong Poovorawan said Sunday that COVID-19 Omicron variant infections are on the steady rise across Thailand, averaging 25,000 cases a day and the number may surge to 100,000 cases a day in the future. Judging by the rapid transmissibility of the BA.2 sub variant of the Omicron variant reported in Singapore, where daily infections average about 15,000 in a population one tenth the size of Thailand’s, Japan’s or South Korea’s, he said that Thailand may soon fall into the same pattern. *Thai PBS contributed to this report Discover Cigna’s range of health insurance solutions created for expats and local nationals living in Thailand - click to view -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-02-21 - Aetna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
