  2. By Natthaphon Sangpolsit BANGKOK (NNT) - Thailand’s insurance business regulator has indicated that approval has not been granted for Southeast Asia Insurance to cease operations and that all existing insurance policies are still valid. The statement was in response to Thai Group Holdings Plc having notified the Stock Exchange of Thailand about discontinuing operations at Southeast Asia Insurance Plc. The Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) explained that Southeast Asia Insurance filed for the termination of its business with the OIC, but approval has yet to be granted. The office has established a working committee to scrutinize relevant details, with the aim of preserving the benefits of insurance policyholders and other stakeholders as well as ensuring the legality of the move. The OIC noted that the General Insurance Fund exists to protect those entitled to payment in accordance with insurance claims in cases where an insurance company’s license is revoked. The fund is also intended to foster stability and reliability for the insurance business. The office said the fund does not cover cases of an insurance company ceasing its operations, but assured that public concern was unwarranted. It explained that Southeast Asia Insurance cannot shut down or cease operations until it receives approval to do so from the OIC, adding that all current insurance policies are still valid. -- © Copyright NNT 2022-01-29 - Aetna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 13. Tiger attack! Buffalo farmer mauled in same area where alleged poachers shot two tigers Picture: Thai Rath A Karen man tending his cows and buffaloes in the west of Thailand was attacked by a tiger yesterday morning. 14. Picture: Thai Rath A Karen man tending his cows and buffaloes in the west of Thailand was attacked by a tiger yesterday morning. It was in the same area where rangers found two tiger skins drying and tiger meat on a barbecue. Several men were arrested and charged with poaching though they claimed they were just farmers protecting their stock. Saser was with three other farmers. They had moved their 120 head of cattle in the wake of the shooting of the other tigers, reported Thai Rath. Yesterday morning they were checking up on their herd that was grazing two kilometers from a village in the Thong Pha Phum area of Kanchanaburi. They feared another tiger may attack them. And so it proved, but it was a man who was attacked. Suddenly a tiger jumped out and savaged Saser in the neck. He had a total of twenty wounds and was later ferried by river transport to Paholpolpayuhasena Hospital in Kanchanaburi due to the serious nature of his wounds, said local district chief Noppadech Kliawsirikul. Wildlife expert Edwin Wiek told ASEAN NOW a couple of weeks ago that there are about 180 wild tigers in Thailand. He suggested that the men responsible for the tiger shooting and skinning incident were probably trying to make money from the sale of the animal's body parts like skin, bones and penises. This latest case - still very unusual in Thailand - raises the whole question of the rights of farmers to raise their stock and their inevitable confrontation with tigers as the latter's population increases. (Bandar Aljaloud/Saudi Royal Palace via AP) Unresolved cases relating to the murders of Saudi Arabian diplomats, a businessman who went missing, and the theft of a precious blue diamond from a Saudi palace – there was a lot that derailed Thailand-Saudi Arabia diplomatic relations. After over three decades, the clouds of distrust have dispersed. Something has suddenly changed in the Saudi perception, making them amenable to let bygones be bygones and agreeing to restore full diplomatic ties with Thailand. As Riyadh recalibrates its future place in the comity of nations, it is looking for strategic and economic interests in warm relations, according to prominent scholars.
