Picture: Sanook Sanook reporters hotfooted it to Dootung sub-district in Yasothon in Thailand's agricultural north east after a local official called Nookorn told them about the birth of a cleft tongued calf. Due to the rift in the calf's mouth it looks like it has two tongues. In the fields near the village of Khambon they met Suphan, 54, who was tending his livestock. One of his two breeding cows had given birth on January 5th to the unusual calf that was causing a lot of interest among neighbors in the area. He had given the calf the name of "Bunlai" - a name that means much merit. He was convinced that the calf would bring him great fortune. He intends to look after it and raise it to adulthood. 5. Picture: 77kaoded A disgruntled Thai man went on the rampage in Chantaburi in central/eastern Thailand yesterday. Even for a country used to violent, revenge related crime this was a Sunday of sheer horror, notes ASEAN NOW. At the end of his murder spree four people - two women and two men - were dead. The murderer was unrepentant - he reportedly said they all deserved what they got, reported 77kaoded. First stop for the shooter - a man called Prasit, aged 50 - was the busy Tamoon market at 3pm. Picture: 77kaoded Here by the side of the Chanthaburi to Sa Kaeo Road - Route 317 - he shot his former wife Wanphen, 49, in the head. There were many witnesses. Then he shot Wanphen's daughter Oraya, 25, in a Toyota Fortuner owner by his former wife. Prasit then drove the Fortuner away with Oraya dead beside him. Next stop was the area beside the temple of Wat Tham Sarika where Theerachat, 44, was shot dead. He had borrowed 40,000 baht from Prasit and hadn't repaid him. Picture: 77kaoded Then it was back in the Fortuner as Prasit headed to Ban Khao Phlu Thong where 48 year old Bunruam was gunned down. Bunruam had sold Prasit a faulty gun. Finally Soi Dao district police went to a bar in Nong Makha sub-district where Prasit was drinking spirits. His daughter persuaded him to give himself up. Chanthaburi commander Pol Maj-Gen Naradech Klomthuksing led the interrogation. A 1.38 minute video posted on YouTube showed how the crime unfolded and finally featured the suspect sitting on a sofa as officers stood watch. If farmers followed suit. Wichian Jantharanothai has issued an order banning the burning of stubble in paddy fields, sugar cane growing areas and other agricultural areas in a bid to lessen the effects of PM2.5 particulate matter in the air. He has recognised that such burning is a major contributory factor to the annual cool season pollution that causes respiratory conditions and other health problems. Kamnans and phoo yai ban have been mobilized to advise about the order. However INN reported that the ban was being widely flouted with one 50 rai area burning away as normal. INN didn't mention any activity from the police in their report. 14. Zebra Crossings: Action demanded but is it "locking the stable door after the horse has bolted"? Thai media alluded to the Thai proverb about surrounding a pen after the cow has run away. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1248558-zebra-crossings-action-demanded-but-is-it-locking-the-stable-door-after-the-horse-has-bolted/
  15. Thai media alluded to the Thai proverb about surrounding a pen after the cow has run away. Or in English locking the stable door after the horse has bolted (acting too late after an event). Thai Rath was reporting on the fallout from the case of the death of Chula opthamologist Waralak or Dr Kratai, killed on a Zebra Crossing in Bangkok on January 21st. Her funeral was held last Wednesday as the man who killed her - Lance Corporal Norawich Buadok - went into the monkhood. He was allegedly speeding on his Ducati Monster superbike. Chair of an accident prevention committee and DPM Prawit Wongsuwon ordered action. "Big Den" - Gen Damrongsak Kittipraphas had a meeting and ordered all authorities nationwide to get tough. Zebras were to have new lines, lights and markings. Strips to slow traffic were to be installed along with lights and CCTV. Speed limits in built up areas around Zebras were to be changed to 30-40 kmph and to 60 kmph in areas outside cities. A 20,000 baht monthly prize has been set up for members of the public filming law breaking at Zebras. The RTP have asked the public to be their eyes and ears. The talk is of Dr Kratai being the last fatality at a Zebra. Dr Thaejing Siriphanich who runs the Anti Drink Driving Foundation is starting a campaign, according to print media who reported on the issue at the weekend. The symbol of this will be a fluffy rabbit - "Kratai" is rabbit in Thai, the nickname of the doctor who lost her life. Thai Rath added that MoPH stats say that 6-8% of road fatalities were pedestrians in 2016-2018. These stats suggested 800-1000 pedestrians died. But when police stats are added the figure is more like 2,500 - 2,900 annually of which 900 per year are in Bangkok. 16. Latest accident stats: 21 dead Saturday as drunk driver kills road worker Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1248552-latest-accident-stats-21-dead-saturday-as-drunk-driver-kills-road-worker/
  17. Daily News continued their campaign to raise awareness about the appalling carnage on Thailand's deadly roads. They reported that 21 people died in accidents on Saturday cautioning that the figure was low because agencies do not report death much at the weekend preferring to wait until Monday or Tuesday. This brought the January fatality figures so far to 1,126 at the scene deaths. This compares to 1,134 in the same 29 days last year. ASEAN NOW cautions that in reality the figures are much higher when deaths at or on the way to hospitals are added to the toll. In the latest terrible accident an innocent road surfacing worker called Ekachai, 33, was killed by a 22 year old man in a Land Rover on the expressway in Klong Toei, Bangkok. The young driver reeked of alcohol, said the media. This story is reported by ASEAN NOW elsewhere this morning. Expressway police found a Land Rover with its front smashed. Fifty meters away police found an adapted tractor type vehicle completely destroyed. Thirty three year old Ekachai from Sa Kaeo - described as a road cleaner - had a broken arm and neck and was dead. He was wearing a high visibility jacket. Another man who had been sitting on the tractor vehicle was rushed to hospital with serious injuries. Picture: Siam Rath The 22 year old driver of the Land Rover suffered only minor injuries. Another road worker called Anusorn who saw what happened said that a team had been doing road resurfacing and only one lane was open. At about 1 am the Land Rover cut in front of a truck trailer going at least 100 kmph and hit the workers' vehicle. The driver was thrown out 20 meters. Siam Rath said that the driver of the Land Rover has the same surname as the owner of a department store at Victory Monument. He was taken away by police but complained of injuries so was taken to hospital where a breath test was performed. Results were being assessed. He had not been breath tested by the police asking instead that he remain in the hospital. He was not named. It was another horrific crime fueled by revenge and alcohol after a face losing incident. It happened after a birthday party. Samray police and rescue services went to Krung Thonburi Soi 6 where outside a house they found the remains of a birthday party - cake, bottles of booze and soda. Plus evidence of lots of shooting with 5.56 bullets - used in M16 and HK 33 war weapons, reported Daily News. Inside a two story terraced house they found Somboon "Nao" Sae-kang dead. He'd been shot through the eye with the bullet traversing to a wall. He was lying in a pool of blood. Two other bullets had smashed a flat screen TV. Supranee was hit by a stray bullet as she went down the stairs to see what the commotion was all about. The bullet ricocheted injuring her abdomen, thigh and face. Chatchawan said that the dead man was an old friend. They had all been at a birthday party earlier in which Anusorn, 37, had got very drunk and started behaving badly. One man had slapped him to get him to calm down. That man had since gone home. Anusorn left but harbored a grudge. He went on Facebook to vent his anger then returned with the gun.
