  6. Picture: Chiang Mai News Chiang Mai News reported that a delegation of senior tourist police headed by Pol Maj-Gen Warissiri Lilasiri and an official from the tourism ministry's local office went to Chiang Mai Ram Hospital to visit a seven year old Russian boy who fell in a boiling hot geyser. The accident happened on October 4th at 11 am when Misha - named in the CMN article slightly differently - got devastating burns on much of his body. He was transferred to the hospital in Chiang Mai after being treated in the Pai area of Mae Hong Son. A donation page has been set up for several days on ASEAN NOW after an appeal was launched to help the stricken and penniless family. Picture: Chiang Mai News The boy's mother Elena K., 35, said that there was no fence around the geyser and it was not safe. She said that she had been to Pai police three times but there were communication problems and she had eventually sought the help of a friend in Pattaya who had contacted a foundation in Bangkok for assistance after an online page stepped in. She said that the hospital bill was now 500,000 baht. The tourist police have promised full assistance and are investigating whether the geyser is on state or private sector land. Watcharaporn Sutthisombat of the Chiang Mai office of the Thai tourism ministry said that there is an injury fund for hospital care of tourists. They are also looking into the case to see if there was negligence involved. The boy may have to be moved to Bangkok for further treatment. The family were due to leave Thailand on November 7th but this is likely to be extended as Misha undergoes further treatment. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2021-10-15 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow ASEAN NOW on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates Get your business in front of millions of customers who read ASEAN NOW with an interest in Thailand every month - email [email protected] for more information

  10. TAT boss: quarantine remains for 1 day to test all visitors, no going back to old tourism pub scenes by James Morris and Son Nguyen The Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has moved to douse expectations after the Prime Minister’s announcement on Monday night by explaining that quarantine will remain for at least one day even for fully vaccinated arrivals from five initially approved countries. He also was adamant that there is no going back to the old model of Thai tourism with crowded pub scenes as his agency plans a shift to a higher quality, higher spending, family orientated sort of tourism in the future. Yuthasak Supasorn also highlights the vital importance of cooperation between national, local government and state agencies in continuing to monitor and control the reopening process to protect the population from the threat of the COVID-19 virus. On Thursday, there was a significant breakthrough when the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the Certificate of Entry system will also cease on November 1st and be replaced by a new web-based ‘Thailand Pass’ system confirming a passenger’s vaccination status to make travelling to Thailand easier. Just days after what appeared to be a watershed announcement by Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan ocha that the country would reopen on a blanket basis to visitors from an initial list of 10 countries without quarantine and a suggestion that both alcohol and nightlife may be allowed after December, comes news that stronger controls will be maintained. According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Governor Yuthasak Supasorn, in recent days, there will still be a mandatory one day quarantine requirement for all visitors while he also suggested that there was no going back to the former tourism market with busy nightlife scenes as Thailand seeks a new tourism following.
