Chinese man stabs Thai waiter for stopping sexual assault by Petch Petpailin Photo via Facebook/ ไอ่อั๋น ต๊อกต๋อยแร้วงัย A Chinese man attacked a Thai waiter with a knife at a restaurant in the eastern province of Prachin Buri on Monday, June 10, for intervening in a sexual assault on a female party entertainer. An assistant chef at the restaurant where the incident took place shared a video of the physical altercation on Facebook yesterday, June 11, with the caption, “Looking for the Chinese man in the black shirt in this video. He attacked my friend with a knife. The video shows two Chinese men engaged in a heated argument with restaurant staff. The individual wearing a black shirt seizes a knife and assaults the victim, who hastily flees in an attempt to save his life. The victim, subsequently identified as Jakkrit, a waiter at the establishment, sustained a laceration to his wrist, resulting in a torn tendon. Jakkrit’s father, 38 year old Kowit, and his girlfriend visited Kabin Buri Police Station yesterday to file a complaint against the Chinese attacker in the black shirt. According to the victim’s father, the incident took place at about 11pm on that night. Jakkrit saw a female entertainer being sexually assaulted by the Chinese man in the black shirt in the restaurant bathroom. The woman frantically waved her hands, signalling for assistance from other staff members. Jakkrit and another waiter promptly rushed to aid her, prompting the Chinese man to retreat to his seat. However, the altercation escalated when the man retrieved a knife from his car. He viciously attacked Jakkrit, while his companion in the white shirt also assaulted the victim physically. In fear for his safety, Jakkrit reportedly sought refuge in a forest behind the restaurant until the two assailants departed in separate vehicles. Kowit vowed to pursue justice for his son, who fell victim to an unprovoked attack. Despite managing to escape without retaliating, his son was relentlessly pursued by the Chinese assailants, who made attempts on his life. Jakkrit narrowly avoided a potentially fatal stabbing by fleeing the scene just in time. Officers have not yet provided an update on the case. The Government of Thailand has launched an initiative to nominate Nan, a culturally rich northern province, for UNESCO World Heritage status, aiming to boost the region's tourism and economy. Nan's picturesque landscapes, archaeological treasures, and diverse ethnic heritage are anticipated to captivate global tourists and scholars alike. Government spokesperson Chai Watcharonke revealed that the Cabinet had approved the Culture Ministry’s proposal in March. The proposal focuses on leveraging Nan’s archaeological history, a unique blend of ethnic cultures, and local wisdom, bolstering its case for UNESCO’s prestigious listing. As part of the initiative, officials plan to promote Nan alongside Luang Prabang, the historic capital of Laos and an existing UNESCO World Heritage site. Establishing Nan as a twin city to Luang Prabang could position Thailand as a crucial regional tourism hub, potentially drawing more international visitors. Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin directed the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry, the Thai World Heritage Committee, and the Culture Ministry to accelerate the nomination process. Chai Watcharonke noted that during a recent Cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister also discussed upgrading Nan Airport to international status. This move aims to attract high-quality international tourists, enhancing both the region's and the nation’s tourism profile. “If the plan to promote Nan as a UNESCO World Heritage Site succeeds, it will benefit the economy and incomes of not only the locals but also people living in other nearby provinces,” Chai emphasized. To further the nomination, the Cabinet approved a seven million baht budget on March 19 for the Culture Ministry’s efforts to increase public awareness and carry out an academic assessment of Nan’s significant historical sites. In related news, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) seeks collaboration with 11 international airlines to broaden market reach. Their focus for the latter half of the year includes promoting both new and existing tourist markets, ensuring Thailand’s continued appeal as a top global destination. A group of Chinese men attacked a young waiter in Na Kham jeopardising his aspirations of becoming a soldier. Footage shared on social media displayed a chaotic scene in a local restaurant involving two foreign men. The video led to a plea to identify the Chinese assailant. On June 11th, 2024, reporters visited the establishment in Na Kham, Kabin Buri District, Prachinburi Province. Blood stains on the floor bore witness to the brutality. An eyewitness, Mr. Ratchanan (pseudonym), recounted the nightmarish ordeal. He was celebrating a friend's birthday when he noticed a Chinese man dragging the waiter towards the restroom. Upon intervening, he discovered the man was trying to force the waiter inside and nearly harmed him. As the restaurant prepared to close, the same Chinese man contested his bill. Within moments, another Chinese individual entered as if to escalate the situation, and quickly departed. Soon after, a third Chinese man, clad in a black shirt, brandished a knife and lunged at the young waiter. Picture courtesy: Komchadluek A total of eight Chinese men were involved; four launched the attack, while four waited in a car outside. Mr. Ratchanan used a table to fend off the assailants, but one of them managed to slash his right arm. He fled outside, hearing two gunshots whose origin remains unknown. The attackers eventually drove away. Mr. Nok (pseudonym), working at the bar during the attack, didn't witness the incident firsthand but was aware of the Chinese men's menacing intentions. He hid the waiter, but the aggressors pursued him relentlessly. Speaking to the media, Mr. Nok highlighted the waiter's diligence and determination, lamenting that no one should face such violence. Kabin Buri Police Station officials arrived promptly, recorded the bloodstains, and began compiling evidence to pursue further investigation. The community now awaits justice for the young waiter whose life and dreams are shattered. Picture courtesy: Komchadluek -- 2024-06-12 Get our Daily Newsletter - Click HERE to subscribe

Naked Rage: Delivery Rider Arrested After Attacking Family and Police Picture courtesy: Trueresort A food delivery rider faces arrest after a violent altercation with a family of three, including a 10-month-old baby, in Nonthaburi province, near Bangkok. A food delivery rider faces arrest after a violent altercation with a family of three, including a 10-month-old baby, in Nonthaburi province, near Bangkok. The incident escalated, culminating in the rider stripping at the police station. The victims, 32-year-old Akkarapon and his wife, 38-year-old Rinlaphat, recounted their ordeal on Facebook. The drama unfolded on June 10, as the couple got lost exiting the Ministry of Public Health. Akkarapon was driving slowly to navigate the narrow lanes when a rider from the Robinhood app aggressively overtook their car, nearly causing a collision. Akkarapon attempted to apologise, but the rider, identified as Naruemate, became enraged. He cut off their car twice before eventually blocking their path. Rinlaphat recorded the increasingly hostile situation on her phone while the couple dialled 191 for police assistance. Video footage shows Naruemate parking his motorcycle in front of their car, kicking the vehicle's front, and challenging Akkarapon to a fight. Despite the couple’s calm response, Naruemate repeatedly kicked the side mirror, breaking it, and then threatened them with a knife, which he later placed back in his motorbike’s storage compartment. Police arrested Naruemate on June 11, after the couple’s video gained traction on Facebook, escalating public and police attention. Detained at Mueang Nonthaburi Police Station, Naruemate’s aggression persisted. Denied bail, he threw away food and drink brought by his grandmother before stripping off his clothes in a fit of rage. His grandmother, responsible for Naruemate since his parents' divorce, expressed concern for his temper and troubled history, including previous convictions for theft. She maintained that despite his hot temper, Naruemate does not use drugs and hoped for societal leniency and understanding. Police have yet to formally charge Naruemate, delayed by his ongoing aggressive behaviour, which has complicated efforts to interrogate him fully. This violent outburst raised significant alarm among local residents and brought considerable attention to behavioural issues among food delivery riders, prompting a broader discussion on road safety and mental health in high-pressure jobs. A woman in Chon Buri has fatally stabbed her husband following years of enduring domestic abuse. The tragic incident occurred after a heated argument, during which she finally decided she could take no more. The police were summoned to a rented room in Ban Bueng District at around 11:30 p.m. yesterday. Upon arrival, they found the body of 53-year-old Chuang, with multiple stab wounds to the torso. His wife, 59-year-old Janjira, did not attempt to flee and immediately surrendered to the authorities. Police Lieutenant Prakat Yati and a rescue team from the Silathammasamakhom Association led the investigation at the scene. According to Janjira, her husband was habitually violent when intoxicated. She reported that he often instigated fights and assaulted her whenever he drank. On the night of the incident, Chuang had been drinking heavily and, as usual, initiated an altercation. According to Janjira, he beat her and destroyed various household items, including a rice cooker. Unable to tolerate his drunken rampage any longer, she grabbed a knife and stabbed him multiple times in the torso. Janjira chose not to flee the scene and waited for the police to arrive. She confessed to the crime without resistance, explaining her actions and the years of abuse she had suffered. Before the rescue team removed her husband’s body, officers allowed her to perform a ritual of forgiveness for him, respecting her request. Janjira was subsequently taken into custody and is now facing murder charges. The case highlights the desperate circumstances victims of domestic violence can face, often feeling trapped and unsupported. Her confession reflects a complex mix of regret and relief, as she acknowledges the tragic outcome of her actions and faces the legal consequences. The incident underscores the need for robust support systems for victims of domestic violence to prevent such extreme measures. Pickup Driver Wields Gun, Threatens Couple in Road Rage Incident CCTV screenshot by Wichit Police A road rage incident unfolded yesterday in Phuket, when a white pickup driver allegedly brandished a gun, threatening a truck driver and his wife. A road rage incident unfolded yesterday in Phuket, when a white pickup driver allegedly brandished a gun, threatening a truck driver and his wife. Wichit Police are currently searching for the elusive suspect involved in this alarming event. Kwannapa Patjirang and her husband were traveling northbound on Chao Fa West Road when they first noticed the erratic driving of a white Toyota Revo pickup. The pickup stood out for its lack of licence plates both at the front and the back. As the two vehicles travelled alongside each other, the pickup's driver drew closer, signalling them to pull over while brandishing a gun. Understandably apprehensive, the couple chose to remain inside their truck, ignoring the threatening invitations. Upon reaching an intersection, the couple decided to accelerate and continue driving to put distance between themselves and the armed individual. Their strategy worked when the pickup eventually took an underpass while they remained on the surface road, allowing them to part ways safely. Deputy Chief Wuttichai Chanfai of the Wichit Police has confirmed the receipt of the complaint and emphasised that police are actively hunting for the pickup and its driver. Wichit Police Chief, Chatri Chukaew, has been briefed on the incident and joined the effort to locate the suspect. The police were initially alerted to the confrontation around 2pm. Authorities are now thoroughly reviewing CCTV footage in the surrounding areas to identify and apprehend the dangerous driver. While the couple fortunately escaped physical harm, the psychological trauma of such close encounters is considerable. Picture courtesy: LINE A woman in Thailand, overwhelmed by her noisy neighbours, has sold her property for 1.5 million baht, below market value, to regain her peace. The ordeal, shared on a popular Facebook page, sheds light on the lengths she went to escape the disturbances. The woman's story surfaced on the Facebook page อยากดังเดี๋ยวจัดให้ รีเทิร์น part 6, complete with CCTV footage showing the incessant noise and disruptions. The footage depicted loud singing, chatter, cooking noises, and obstructive parking by the neighbours. Living in the Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima district, the woman had enjoyed a tranquil existence for only two years of the six she spent paying off her house. Her peaceful living conditions were shattered four years ago when the troublesome neighbours moved in next door. “I have endured this for years. The noise from children and adults is constant, and they park their cars in front of my house, blocking the entrance,” the woman shared. “They cook noisily when I need to sleep and even sit on the street, staring into my home. They lack respect and privacy, with eight people living in a small townhouse.” Her attempts to resolve the issues amicably proved futile. After several discussions with the neighbours, temporary improvements were overshadowed by recurring problems, leading to significant stress and a decline in her mental health. The incident occurred in Talat subdistrict, with the woman, Dusadee, owning two townhouse units, while the neighbours occupied the adjacent one. Over the years, the neighbour’s household grew to eight, escalating the disturbances from children playing, loud conversations, and disruptive cooking at inconvenient times. The parking situation added to her woes, with neighbours frequently blocking her driveway, complicating her daily routine. Repeated discussions failed to yield lasting solutions, compelling Dusadee to share her frustration online. The constant stress has not only caused annoyance but also impacted her health. Suffering from a uterine fibroid, Dusadee's condition worsened due to stress, leading to insufficient rest and hormonal imbalances. Faced with ongoing strife, she contemplated selling her beloved home. Dusadee and her mother discussed the prospect, reluctantly deciding that selling the house for 1.5 million baht—below market price—might be the only way to find peace and start anew elsewhere. -- 2024-06-12 Get our Daily Newsletter - Click HERE to subscribe

Thailand Grapples with Growing Number of Foreign Beggars File photo. Courtesy of drburtoni Thailand’s bustling streets are teeming with beggars, and the latest statistics reveal a startling trend: nearly 30% of them are foreigners. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1329554-thailand-grapples-with-growing-number-of-foreign-beggars/ -
Thailand’s bustling streets are teeming with beggars, and the latest statistics reveal a startling trend: nearly 30% of them are foreigners. Social Development and Human Security Minister Varawut Silpa-archa made the revelation today, 11th June, in response to a surge of social media complaints about the influx, particularly outside Bangkok's major shopping centres. Varawut disclosed that approximately 8,000 beggars have been arrested over the past decade, from 2014 to 2024. Many beggars employ emotional tactics like begging with young children or pets, aiming to garner more sympathy and money. "Beggars caught with unrelated children will face criminal charges," Varawut sternly noted. To tackle the issue, the ministry collaborates with the police and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), conducting street checks at least five times monthly. Foreign beggars face deportation, whereas Thai beggars are sent to reception homes for career retraining. Repeat offenders, regardless of nationality, can expect legal charges. Varawut highlighted the difficulty of entirely eliminating begging due to the low fines levied compared to the substantial earnings beggars can make. "Some beggars can earn up to 100,000 baht per month in tourist hotspots during peak season," he remarked. He implored the public to cease giving money to beggars as a long-term solution and assured that ministry officials are available around the clock to handle complaints. “It’s difficult to remove all beggars because the fines are minimal compared to their earnings,” Varawut reiterated, stressing the importance of public cooperation. In a related incident, Thai police recently arrested a British man allegedly begging for drug money outside a convenience store in Koh Pha Ngan, an island in the southern province of Surat Thani. Local residents had alerted authorities upon seeing the man outside a 7-Eleven and engaging in drug use nearby. Officers from Koh Pha Ngan Police Station and the Tourist Police apprehended the foreigner on 17th April. File photo. Move Forward MPs Ponder Defection Amid Potential Party Dissolution Picture courtesy: Thai Rath Several MPs from the Move Forward Party in Thailand find themselves at a political crossroads as the spectre of party dissolution looms large, according to party leader Chaithawat Tulathon. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1329553-move-forward-mps-ponder-defection-amid-potential-party-dissolution/ -
Several MPs from the Move Forward Party in Thailand find themselves at a political crossroads as the spectre of party dissolution looms large, according to party leader Chaithawat Tulathon. The Constitutional Court is expected to deliver its verdict tomorrow (June 12) on allegations that Move Forward aimed to undermine national rule through a controversial bid to amend the lese-majeste law, Section 112 of the Criminal Code. If found guilty, Move Forward faces immediate dissolution. Its executive board members, holding any MP status, would be stripped of their positions and banned from political activities for several years. Chaithawat hinted at attempts by unnamed political entities to lure Move Forward MPs into their ranks, should the dissolution happen. The uncertainty has prompted discussions among the party's 149 MPs about their political futures. Thai law gives MPs from a dissolved party 60 days to join another party to maintain their status. Among those possibly affected are prominent figures such as Pita Limjaroenrat, Benja Saengchan, and Deputy House Speaker Padipat Santipada, who recently moved to the Fair Party. Chaithawat refrained from specifying how many MPs are inclined to defect, noting that such moves often reflect "old-style" politics, which he believes will adversely affect public opinion towards these recruiting parties. The parties allegedly seeking to capitalise on this turmoil include Pheu Thai under Thaksin Shinawatra, Bhumjaithai led by Newin Chidchob, and the Palang Pracharath Party headed by former Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan. Pita remarked that MPs who defect often struggle in subsequent elections, citing last year’s results as evidence. The defection talks also tie into wider political manoeuvrings, including potential changes in the coalition government led by Pheu Thai’s Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, who might face impeachment. Tomorrow's court ruling could thus set off a significant reshuffle in Thailand's political landscape, forcing Move Forward MPs to make tough decisions in a rapidly evolving environment.
