Liverpool Fans Warned Of Money-Soliciting, Ludicrous Scam
LIVERPOOL FANS IN THAILAND are being cautioned to never fall prey to what appears to be a ridiculous, senseless scam soliciting money online to buy Bayer 04 Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso an air ticket to the English city. The Central Investigation Bureau has posted on its Facebook page to warn the English Premier League club Liverpool fans who are Thai nationals throughout this country and elsewhere to never transfer cash online to a bank account to which those scammers would almost certainly have instant access. The online impostors are desperately drumming up Liverpool fans’ contribution to assisting the Leverkusen manager with his purported air travel from an undisclosed place to the northwestern English city where he has been more or less speculated to replace Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp at the end of this season. Australian Who Overstayed in Phuket Finally Back Home
Phuket-An Australian man who overstayed his visa has finally returned back to his home after running into financial problems, say Phuket officials. The Phuket Tourist Police told the Phuket Express that earlier this week they were notified that an intoxicated foreign man was at a public relations counter at the international departures terminal of Phuket International Airport and was having problems leaving Thailand due to being on overstay and experiencing financial difficulties. He was identified only as a 44 year old Australian man. He had a fight ticket back to his home, However, Phuket Immigration at the airport found that he had overstayed his visa by 22 days . He had to pay 500 baht per day for the overstay, a total of 11,000 Baht, but, He stated that he only had 8,000 Baht left after his wallet was allegedly stolen. He told Immigration he had filed a report to police about the stolen wallet hoping this would give him an exception to fly out, but Immigration officers said this would violate policy. Drunk British Man Launches Brutal Attack on Pattaya Bolt Driver: Update
UPDATE: But British Man Claims He Was The Victim and Was Only Defending Himself Pattaya — A Bolt driver, Mr. Weeraphon Dwongsuwan, aged 30, was reportedly brutally assaulted in the early hours of Sunday, January 28th, by an allegedly heavily intoxicated British man in Pattaya. Mr. Weeraphon sustained several injuries, including a closed right eye, multiple bruises across his body, a “bitten-off lower lip,” and bite marks on his abdomen and back. According to reports, the incident unfolded around 3:30 AM when Mr. Weeraphon was hired by an Englishman, later identified by Pattaya police as Mr. James, 50, to drive him from Pattaya’s Soi Buakhao to a residence on Soi Thung Klom – Tan Man. At the South Pattaya intersection, Mr. Weeraphon stated to the police that Mr. James, who was allegedly heavily drunk, asked him to stop the car to relieve himself. However, upon returning, the British national refused to re-enter the vehicle or pay the fare and instead walked to a nearby motorcycle taxi stand, according to Weeraphon. Mr. Weeraphon then approached the tourist, demanding him to pay 171 baht, roughly about 5 USD, for the ride fare. An unidentified motorcycle taxi driver then intervened, offering to reach a compromise of Mr. James giving Weeraphon only a 100 baht (About 3 USD) and suggesting that Weeraphon follow Mr. James to his residence to collect the remaining amount while the motorbike taxi driver brought James the rest of the way home. Weeraphon, the motorbike taxi driver, and allegedly Mr. James agreed to this compromise and so the three were off to James’ residence. Following Mr. James to his residence, Mr. Weeraphon parked his white Mitsubishi Triton at the entrance of the alley and waited for the motorcycle taxi driver to come back with the remaining fare. Growing suspicious after a lengthy wait, he drove to Mr. James’s house to investigate. Air Force Seeks 19 Billion Baht In Funding For New Fighters
THE AIR FORCE IS LOOKING FOR a sum of 19 billion baht in funding for next fiscal year for the planned procurement of new squadrons of fighters to replace the ageing ones scheduled to be decommissioned in the next four years, air force chief ACM Panpakdee Patanakul confirmed today (Jan.30). The air force would largely prefer to buy either Lockheed Martin F-16 Block 70 Fighting Falcon or Saab JAS 39 Gripen jets to replace General Dynamics F-16s and Northrop F-5TH Super Tigris jets, according to the air force chief. Pivotal to the air force’s ultimate preference for either type of the sought-after fighters will be the proven cost-effectiveness of those combat aircraft to buy and replace the ageing ones, beginning in 2028, according to the air force chief. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has initially given the green light for the air force’s seeking some 19 billion baht in 2025 funding for the new fighters procurement scheme on grounds that the chosen combat aircraft’s qualities will ultimately be deemed by air marshals as “optimum”, ACM Panpakdee said. Thailand’s gaping disparity in welfare spending on state officials and the people
Budgetary provisions are under scrutiny as Thailand’s House of Representatives is currently in the process of vetting the much-delayed budget bill for fiscal 2024. The total outlay is 3.48 trillion baht (US$99 billion). Public attention has turned to the widening income and wealth inequality, which has plagued Thailand for long. There has been a growing debate about the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. State officials vs the people The government has allocated close to 1 trillion baht for welfare spending on state officials and other citizens in fiscal year 2024. A look at the figures reveals the stark disparity in the per capita spending allocation for state officials as compared to other citizens. The welfare budget for state employees and their families is 499 billion baht, Chat Khamsaeng, director at 101 Public Policy Think Tank who dug into the details of the budget provisions, revealed. The welfare budget comprises pensions (329.4 billion baht), healthcare (84.6 billion baht), contributions to the Government Pension Fund (78.8 billion baht), education and life insurance (4.5 billion baht) and others (2.3 billion baht). Interestingly, over time healthcare costs have ballooned. Nearly 1.8 million civil service officials will be beneficiaries, including military and police personnel. They include 1.2 million state employees. In addition 4.6 million family members of state officials and 800,000 of retired state officials are covered by state healthcare. Bumrungrad Hospital battles online investment scam
Bumrungrad Hospital executives in Bangkok filed a complaint with the Cyber Police, targeting a fraudulent page that falsely claimed to represent the hospital in an online investment scam. Atirat Ratanakijpipat, CEO of Bumrungrad Hospital, yesterday, January 30, along with the management team, met with high-ranking Cyber Police officials to initiate legal action against the perpetrators who created the fake page. Swindlers impersonated Bumrungrad Hospital by using various data, including photos of the CEO, to create fake social media accounts on Facebook Page and Line applications. These scammers claimed that the hospital was offering investment opportunities with quick and high returns, including the sale of stock funds. They often boosted their fraudulent posts on Facebook and instructed potential victims to add a Line account that they had set up. Once contact was made, the fraudsters enticed their victims with the promise of lucrative investment returns. However, once money was transferred, the victims were unable to withdraw their funds, and eventually, the scammers would sever all contact. by Nattapong Westwood Photo courtesy of KhaoSod Full story: The Thaiger 2024-01-30 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
