  2. The Thai authorities swooped on a fake seasoning powder factory, arresting five suspects and revealing a Chinese investor behind the operation. The counterfeit goods, bearing the brand name RosDee, were seized across three provinces. A significant counterfeit seasoning operation has been dismantled by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Thailand, following coordinated raids across Bangkok, Nonthaburi, and Ayutthaya provinces. The sweep resulted in the apprehension of five individuals suspected of manufacturing and distributing fake seasoning products under the well-known brand RosDee. Initial investigations have pointed to the involvement of a Chinese financier, prompting authorities to expand their probe to apprehend the investor for prosecution. The raids, which took place on January 25, were led by the Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECD) of the CIB. Acting on a complaint filed by a legal representative of the victim company, police launched an investigation into reports from consumers about the circulation of counterfeit RosDee seasoning powder in the market. by Nattapong Westwood Photo courtesy of Sanook Full story: The Thaiger 2024-01-27 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 4. Phuket is gearing up to address its ongoing traffic congestion through the implementation of cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) traffic control systems. The announcement came from Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat, who is hopeful that technological advancements can bring about a noticeable change in the island’s traffic flow. Patong Police, in their ongoing effort to regulate traffic, continue to enforce stringent measures against illegal parking. Their campaign, aimed at clearing the roads of unlawfully parked vehicles, is showing no signs of slowing down. Simultaneously, Phuket City Mayor, Saroj Angkanapilas, has been actively engaging with residents to gather their feedback and suggestions on the parking situation in the city. A recent public meeting led by the Mayor focused on addressing parking issues at the old Daeng Plaza on Phuket Road, situated in the heart of Phuket Town’s commercial district. The outcome of this meeting, which was attended by 124 residents, suggested a preliminary design to accommodate parking for 161 cars, four taxis, 45 motorbikes, three passenger vans, and eight-passenger buses. A provision for two parking spaces for the disabled was also included in the plan. by Mitch Connor PHOTO: via Thai Newsroom Full story: The Thaiger 2024-01-27 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 6. Made up a story about being kidnapped! A recent incident involving a young Englishman claiming abduction for ransom has led to a collaborative effort between the Royal Thai Police (RTP) and Interpol. The unfolding drama occurred as the man, accompanied by four foreign friends, was residing in a Pattaya hotel room, reported Daily News. During a subsequent police search, both narcotics and unregistered firearms were discovered. Allegedly, the group had fabricated a kidnapping story to extort money from their families, unaware of the serious consequences they would face. On January 26, Pol. Lt. Gen. Tetsakan Sathasivan, RTP Commissioner, issued a directive for a crackdown, supervised by Pol. Col. Montree Thetkhan, Deputy Commander of RTP, and Pol. Lt. Col. Sarawut Saengjun, Commander of Special Operations Unit 2. The operation resulted in the apprehension of Mr. Ian and Mr. Damien, British nationals facing charges of drug possession and illegal firearm possession. Another Englishman, Mr. Darren, is similarly charged with drug-related offenses. The investigation disclosed that the group, grappling with financial difficulties during their prolonged stay in Thailand, devised a plan to deceive their families into sending money by fabricating a kidnapping. Despite uncovering drugs and firearms in the hotel room, the police operation found no evidence of an actual abduction. The suspects now await legal proceedings under Thai law. -- ASEAN NOW 2024-01-27 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 10. Photo via MGR Online A Thai father in the southern province of Chumphon tied up and brutally attacked an alleged pedophile who reportedly sexually assaulted his 11 year old daughter. Police said they could not arrest the pervert until they got results from the victim’s medical examination. The physical assault against the 42 year old Thai man was reported to the Phutta Phratheep Lang Suan Rescue Team at about 4am on January 21. Rescuers rushed to the scene on Beach Road in the Lang Suan district and found the man with his arms and legs tied. He had two serious wounds to his head and left shin and suffered scratches all over his body. The man reported to the rescuers that three men attacked him while he was fishing. The men also damaged his pickup and stole his mobile phone before leaving. He insisted that he did not know them personally and had never had a conflict with them. MGR Online later reported that the attack was the result of a sexual assault on an 11 year old girl, the daughter of one of the attackers. The girl’s father later came forward to give an interview about the matter. He explained that his daughter’s teacher noticed that she looked stressed. The teacher asked what was the problem. The teacher then discovered the sexual assault and informed her father of the matter. The father then filed a complaint against the man at Pakmamlangsuan Police Station. by Petch Petpailin Photo via MGR Online Full story: The Thaiger 2024-01-27 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 12. Move Forward Party (MFP) Chief Advisor Pita Limjaroenrat denied any intentional negligence in the Thaksin Shinawatra investigation, sparking controversy over alleged double standards. Despite rising criticisms, Pita insists his party is on a mission for justice, aiming to expose systemic unfairness rather than targeting individuals. The 43 year old former MFP leader refuted claims of deliberate oversight in the investigation into Thaksin’s case, following the rise of the Pheu Thai Party to power. The move has sparked intense debate over a perceived double standard in handling the convicted former prime minister. The Bangkok-born politician defended the MFP’s stance today, stating that the opposition is far from complacent in the Thaksin case. He revealed that the MFP had submitted a parliamentary motion demanding explanations from the government regarding the treatment of Thaksin and other inmates facing similar conditions. “Our strategy does not pinpoint individuals; rather, it seeks to restore fairness to those victimised by injustice. by Puntid Tantivangphaisal Puntid Photo courtesy of The Japan Times Full story: The Thaiger 2024-01-27 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 16. A mother tricked into providing her national ID card information which was subsequently used for fraudulent activities, finds herself and her six month old baby behind bars. The case has prompted an urgent call to action from authorities and the public alike, as the hunt for the criminal syndicate intensifies. A plea for assistance was lodged today, January 26, with the Technology Crime Suppression Division at the Government Complex on Chaeng Watthana Road. Ekaphob Luangprasert, an advisor to the Minister of the Interior and founder of the Sai Mai Must Survive Facebook page, brought the plight of the young mother, known simply as Film, into the spotlight. She had fallen prey to a scam that used her personal information to set up fraudulent bank accounts, leading to legal action against her. Police Major General Chatchapanthakarn Klaikluen expressed his directive for investigators and data analysts to coordinate with Thonglor Police Station. The aim is to gather evidence from Film’s phone to track down the owner of the Facebook page that exploited her information. The Cyber Police assured the public of their advanced tools and techniques in hunting down the culprits, though they requested patience for the meticulous process. The ease and convenience of online banking, while beneficial to many, has exposed vulnerabilities that criminals are quick to exploit. The public is encouraged to open bank accounts in person to mitigate the risk of fraud. The Bank of Thailand and relevant agencies are being consulted to address these security loopholes. Additionally, the public is warned to be vigilant when registering for applications, especially when disclosing sensitive information like national ID numbers, which are highly susceptible to misuse by fraudsters. by Nattapong Westwood PHOTO: via vietnam plus Full story: The Thaiger 2024-01-27 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
