Lone Kuwaiti Tourist Fights Off Five Young Teen Robbers in Pattaya
Pattaya —Pattaya police successfully apprehended five teenagers on Monday following their failed attempt to rob a Kuwaiti tourist on Soi Yensabai. The thwarted robbery occurred at around 3:00 AM on January 22nd, along Soi Yensabai in South Pattaya. Mr. Mobaruk Ali, a 23-year-old tourist from Kuwait, had been in Pattaya for just two weeks when he encountered a group of five teenagers armed with knives. In a brave act, Mr. Mobaruk resisted the robbery attempt. With the assistance of local residents who intervened, the group of teenagers dispersed and fled the scene. Seizing the opportunity, Mr. Mobaruk used his mobile phone to record a video while chasing after the suspects. By chance, a police investigation team was patrolling nearby and managed to apprehend one suspect—a 14-year-old Thai teenager. Later, around 8 AM, Pattaya police managed to round up the remaining four suspects, aged between 13 and 15 years old. Due to their ages, the identities of the suspects have been withheld by the police. Teacher’s assailant claims he was attacked first
A 38-year-old man, accused of attacking a female teacher at a school in Chiang Rai province on Saturday, has told the police that he acted in self-defence, claiming that the teacher attacked him first. The teacher, “Acharaporn”, suffered numerous cuts and broken ribs in the attack. The incident occurred while the teacher was on a weekend shift at the school. Suspect “Nirun” stated that he was hired to prune trees at Banpong School in Muang district, adding “Normally, before starting the job, I notify the school principal and a teacher named “Oh”. On that day, however, I encountered a teacher whom I did not know by name and had never met before.’ Nirun claimed that, as he approached the teacher to inform her about being hired to prune trees, a plastic gun accidentally fell out of his pocket. Upon seeing this, the teacher assumed that he would attack her, prompting her to grab his long knife, used for pruning the trees, and swing it, presumably to defend herself. Move Forward confident that Pita will be cleared in iTV shareholding case
The opposition Move Forward party believes that its former leader, Pita Limjaroenrat, will be cleared of a charge that he held a stake in the iTV media company when he applied for candidacy in the May 14th general election last year and will not lose his parliamentary status. The Constitutional Court is scheduled to deliver its ruling this Wednesday. The Move Forward party released a 7-minute video yesterday, explaining why the party believes that Pita, currently chief advisor to the incumbent leader of the party, will be cleared by the charter court and will resume his duties in the party as a party-list MP. The reasons cited by the Move Forward party to support its belief are: -iTV no longer has a license to operate a television station, after the government cancelled its contract in 2007. -iTV has never registered to produce newspapers or other printed materials. It does not hold a license to produce movies, video content or advertisements. Chinese new year holiday expected to boost Thailand’s tourism revenue
Anticipated to reach a staggering 34.4 billion baht, spending during the Chinese New Year holiday is set to surge, with foreign travellers, primarily from Chinese-speaking nations, contributing 28.4 billion baht. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) attributes this 29% year-on-year revenue growth, which spans from February 8 to 16, to the visa-free policy for Chinese and Taiwanese tourists. TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool predicts a 34% rise in foreign visitors, numbering around 995,000, resulting in a 36% increase in revenue to 28.4 billion baht against the same period last year. Chinese arrivals are projected at 177,000, marking a 358% growth from 2023, which was just after the nation reopened its borders amidst restricted seat capacities and high airfares. According to Thapanee, Chinese spending this year is likely to skyrocket by 366% to 6.2 billion baht. Domestic Thai tourists are also expected to contribute to the economy, with an estimated 2 million trips during the festival, generating 6 billion baht in revenue, marking a growth of 10% and 6% respectively year-on-year. The Tourism and Sports Ministry anticipates visitors from China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong to spend a combined 11 billion baht during the holiday, a rise of 157%, with 195,825 arrivals in place of the expanding airline seat capacity. Per person expenditure from these markets is projected to increase by 8% to 58,236 baht compared with 2023, a significant 25% increase from 2019, due to individual travellers opting for more expensive hotels. by Alex Morgan PHOTO: via Loation Times Full story: The Thaiger 2024-01-22 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Aussie woman zaps back to life after electrifying encounter with deadly jellyfish near Koh Pha Ngan
An Aussie woman declared she is thankful to be alive after a bolt of “electricity had shot through her body” following a horrifying attack by some box Jellyfish near Koh Pha Ngan. The 23 year old woman from Queensland in Australia was left hospitalised for over a month after the attack and issued a cautionary message to fellow holidaymakers about the dangers of swimming in Thailand. Zoe Cahill, on her first solo trip to Southeast Asia, had been teaching yoga and exploring Bali and Thailand. Despite several months of swimming around Ko Pha Ngan without any issues, her peaceful routine took a drastic turn in October while swimming near the shore of Zen Beach. “I thought I saw what looked like little bits of plastic in the ocean, and within seconds this jellyfish stung me. It literally felt like electricity had shot through my body.” Despite her injuries, she managed to make it back to the shore, driven by adrenaline, though her memory of the incident remains patchy. Fifty meters from the shore, her body suddenly felt like it was vibrating. With a rush of adrenaline, Cahill made it back to the shore before collapsing and turning blue. Fortunately, a group of about 15 people rushed to her aid, dousing her with bottles of vinegar while a nurse performed CPR. Cahill credits the quick application of vinegar with preventing further deterioration. by Bob Scott Picture courtesy of 9news.
