  4. Bangkok’s health office predicts a severe outbreak of three diseases, with high infection rates, and plans to increase monitoring for an additional 12 diseases. Preparations are underway to care for patients, protect against infections, and secure treatment drugs and vaccines. The Health Department of Bangkok predicted a significant outbreak of three diseases in 2024. The illnesses include the Omicron variant of Covid-19, influenza, and dengue fever. The influenza outbreak is typically expected to start in May, and vaccination once a year can prevent it. The vaccination can be administered alongside the Covid vaccine. Dengue fever, which had a high infection rate last year, is expected to continue this year. While dengue can occur throughout the year, the highest incidence is during the rainy season from August to November. The majority of fatalities are adults, primarily due to delayed treatment and second-time infections, which are more severe than first-time infections and often occur in individuals with pre-existing conditions. by Nattapong Westwood PHOTO: via medicine plus Full story: The Thaiger 2024-01-20 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 6. The owner of a luxury condominium in the Sriracha district of Chon Buri today found the dead body of a naked British man inside the room. The cause of death has not yet been confirmed. The juristic person of the condo told Channel 7 that the British man, 57 year old Matthew, usually bought products from a convenience store on the ground floor of the condo. However, condo staff members, including the maids, had not seen Matthew for several days. The juristic person decided to contact the Thai owner of the condo room in order to get a spare key to check on the Englishman. Upon opening the room, they were shocked by the tragic scene of Matthew’s lifeless body at the door. Officers from the Sriracha Police Station were called to the scene. Police reported that the man was dead, naked and had no visible wounds. After interviewing neighbours and condo staff who had spoken to the British man earlier, officers discovered that he had a congenital illness. 8. In the wake of a catastrophic fireworks explosion that claimed 23 lives in Suphan Buri, one woman’s fortunate escape highlights the pressing need for industrial modernisation in Thailand. However, this requires investment and financial capital. As Thailand and the province of Suphan Buri, just to the northwest of Bangkok, mourn the deaths of 23 people in a catastrophic firework explosion, it emerged that one extremely fortunate woman survived. 46-year-old Namfon Bunkom, in a tizzy, just minutes before the explosion, hastily departed the building. Her son, who normally collected money from her, had failed to turn up and was at home instead. Ms Namfon’s flustered decision, a near-run thing because of her commitment to work, saved her life. However, any joy or relief for the Thai woman was subdued. Afterwards, she confirmed that her mother and many of the people she knew had perished. by Carla Boonkong & Pranee O' Connor TOP picture: 46-year-old Namfon Bunkom’s relief and joy at her life being saved was somewhat subdued. Ms. Urai Phorn, also called Ms. Bee and 21 years old, shared what happened. According to Bee, she and three friends were unwinding with beers near a street corner in Na Jomtien 20, Nong Prue, Sattahip, Chonburi, after wrapping up work around 1:40 a.m. Foreigners approached them, expressing interest in purchasing beer. Bee offered to assist, but a Thai man on a motorcycle intervened, driving the foreigners away. Shortly thereafter, the foreigners returned, and Bee volunteered to procure beer for them. The Thai man, who had parked nearby, signaled for the tourists to buy from him, setting the price at 200 Baht per bottle. After a brief exchange, the Thai man departed but returned ten minutes later. Bee asked if they still desired beer, offering to make the purchase. The tourists agreed, handing money to Bee as they waited for their drinks. Unexpectedly, the Thai man reappeared, parked his motorcycle, and confronted the tourists again. Despite Bee's efforts to defuse the situation, the man produced a small knife, threatening the tourists. Startled, the tourists fled, with the Thai man in pursuit, resulting in a confrontation captured by surveillance cameras. Bee has called for authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident, expressing concerns about its potential impact on Pattaya's tourism reputation if such occurrences become recurring. -- ASEAN NOW 2024-01-20 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
