Thai herbs: Nature’s secret weapon against deadly PM2.5 dust
Whilst Bangkokians battle with the silent killer, the potent PM2.5 air pollution, the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine unveils a game-changing solution to combat the notorious dust particles threatening the health of residents in the capital city. Amidst rising concerns over the long-term health impacts of PM2.5 exposure, Dr Taweesilp Visanuyothin, the face of the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, reveals the secrets of four Thai herbs that promise to shield your lungs and heart from the invisible menace. “Thai herbs have been scientifically proven to be effective in treating respiratory symptoms, as well as inflammation in internal organs caused by the fine dust slipping through the body’s screening mechanism.” Highlighted as the frontline defender against fine dust pollution, the quartet includes little ironweed, laurel clockvine, Indian gooseberry, and turmeric. Dr Taweesilp prescribes little ironweed tea, also known as Ya Dok Khao, as a potent remedy for respiratory irritation, cautioning those with heart and liver conditions to consult physicians due to its high potassium content. by Puntid Tantivangphaisal Photo courtesy of The Nation Full story: The Thaiger 2024-01-18 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Spread the word! More Brits in Thailand can now vote in the UK
British citizens living abroad are now eligible to register to vote in UK general elections, regardless of how long they’ve been living outside the UK. A new law has removed the previous 15-year time limit. Supporting the awareness raising campaign of the UK’s Electoral Commission, the British Embassy in Bangkok is calling on British residents living in Thailand to check if they are eligible. The Commission is the independent and impartial organisation that oversees elections in the UK. Those who have previously lived in or been registered to vote in the UK now have the right to vote in UK parliament elections. They can register online at www.gov.uk/registertovote and will need to confirm their personal information every three years. Anyone on a UK electoral register is also considered a permissible donor to UK political parties and campaigners. Mark Gooding, British Ambassador to Thailand, said… “A change in UK law means that more British citizens living abroad are now eligible to vote in UK Parliament elections. It’s important that eligible people are made aware of the changes so that they can register to vote and cast a ballot when the time comes.” by Thaiger All Abroad! | Photo taken from the British Embassy Facebook page Full story: The Thaiger 2024-01-18 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Through this, they aim to generate a revenue of 136 billion baht, which equates to 75% of the income recorded in 2019. TCEB President Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya noted that the challenge in achieving full recovery is primarily due to global economic pressure. He explained that the MICE industry is on a steady path to recovery, with geopolitical conflicts being a significant factor to consider. Chiruit mentioned that Thailand’s bamboo diplomacy policy ensures no hurdles for MICE travellers from any nation. He highlighted that visa exemptions have boosted MICE visits from primary markets such as China and Taiwan. Despite the weak Chinese economy, entrepreneurs from the region are seeking international partnerships, considering Thailand a business hub for Southeast Asia. by Alex Morgan PHOTO: via Fan Club Thailand Full story: The Thaiger 2024-01-18 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Police officer involved in fatal road accident causing female doctor’s death gets 10-year sentence
The Court of Appeals increased the sentence of a police officer who fatally struck a doctor on a Bangkok zebra crossing. Police Lance Corporal Norawit Buadok, riding a red Ducati big bike, crashed into ophthalmologist Waralak Supawat-Jariyakul on January 21, 2022. The tragic incident occurred in front of Bhumirajanagarindra Kidney Institute Hospital on Phya Thai Road. Waralak, flung into the air by the impact, succumbed to her injuries, sparking a widely reported legal battle. Initially handed a seemingly lenient one year and 15 day sentence, Norawit found himself at the centre of controversy when the grieving family decried the punishment as insufficient for a law enforcer. The Appeals Court, heeding the family’s impassioned appeal, delivered a resounding verdict yesterday, January 17, catapulting Norawit’s sentence to a staggering 10 years and two months. Investigators revealed that at the time of the collision, Norawit was hurtling at an alarming speed between 108 and 128 kilometres per hour, well beyond the prescribed limit of 80 kilometres per hour. by Puntid Tantivangphaisal Photo courtesy of The Nation Full story: The Thaiger 2024-01-18 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Thailand starts checking foreigners' passports on domestic flights
Foreigners in Thailand now required to show passports on domestic flights By Online Reporter The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand has mandated that all foreign nationals must present a valid passport or equivalent identification when boarding domestic flights. This new requirement, effective from January 16, marks a tighter control on travel within the country, particularly aimed at curbing visa overstays as the tourism sector experiences a rebound. Under the new regulation, foreign passengers are required to produce their original passport, with the name matching that on their boarding pass, to be allowed onto a domestic flight. The Civil Aviation Authority has provided some flexibility for those who have lost their passports, allowing them to board with a temporary passport or a non-Thai identification card, such as a driver’s license, issued by the Thai government. Juvenile violence sparks national police chief’s call for tougher laws
In a bid to curb the alarming rise in violent crimes committed by young offenders, National Police Chief Police General Torsak Sukvimol ordered a comprehensive review of all criminal cases involving youngsters over the past five years. The objective is to assess whether the existing juvenile criminal laws should be revamped to enforce stricter penalties for violent offences, said Pol. Gen. Torsak. “We are compiling criminal records for analysis, and the findings will be submitted to the Justice Ministry by the end of this month.” This move by the Royal Thai Police (RTP) comes in response to mounting public pressure, urging the government to reconsider existing laws that may inadvertently allow young criminals to evade justice based solely on their age. Recent shocking incidents of violence perpetrated by minors have ignited a nationwide debate on the adequacy of juvenile criminal legislation. by Puntid Tantivangphaisal Photo courtesy of Bangkok Post Full story: The Thaiger 2024-01-18 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Thai authorities bust Chinese-funded counterfeit cosmetics ring causing hair loss
A Chinese-funded warehouse was raided and counterfeit cosmetics and hair straightening products were seized. These fraudulent products, sold online, resulted in significant hair loss for many consumers. The operation revealed that the warehouse was selling an astonishing 3 million units per month. Witthaya Sriprasertphap, an officer from the Royal Thai Police, along with Anuwat Rakcharoen, Chattha Nakkaew, Weeraphong Klaithong, and Veerachai Nalawachai from the Food and Drug Administration, announced the results of their operation against the Chinese-funded warehouse. Thaksin Should Be Released: Editorial
In the complex tapestry of Thai politics, the case of Thaksin Shinawatra stands out not just for its high drama but for its implications on the principles of justice and democracy. The recent news of his potential parole brings us to a critical juncture, compelling us to examine not only his individual case but the broader context of political justice in Thailand. Thaksin’s journey from prime minister to a political exile, and now a prisoner, is a saga marked by controversy. His ousting in the 2006 military coup was the culmination of a power struggle that many argue was less about addressing corruption and more about a calculated move by the establishment to usurp democracy and subvert the will of the people. His subsequent sentence in absentia in 2008 for abuse of power has been widely viewed as an extension of this plot, a means to ensure his permanent exclusion from Thai politics. This interpretation of Thaksin’s sentencing is critical in understanding why his release on parole is not just a matter of legal procedure but a significant moment. by Thai Enquirer Full story: THAI ENQUIRER 2024-01-18 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
