‘Sickly’ Thaksin Has Petitioned For Royal Pardon By Thai Newsroom Reporters A PETITION FOR ROYAL pardon over an eight-year jail term earlier sentenced for “sickly” de facto Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra has already been filed barely a week after his return from self-exile abroad. Caretaker deputy prime minister Wissanu Krea-ngam confirmed today (Aug.31) the deposed prime minister has recently had his family file the petition through the Ministry of Justice for His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn to grant him royal pardon after he had been sentenced by court to eight years in prison due to a few separate lawsuits over misconduct of which he had been convicted during his premiership nearly two decades earlier. Nevertheless, an inmate is legally bound to have served a minimum of one-third of his or her convicted jail term before being officially considered whether to deserve royal pardon for which a time-consuming process will be taken. Architect’s ‘dirty’ pledge: Faeces target as Pheu Thai Party’s political coalition stirs surprise
Thai architect Duangrit Bunnag has turned an unusual promise into a reality, offering himself as a target for faeces-throwing after the Pheu Thai Party forged an unexpected coalition with the Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP). Duangrit is a member of Creative Action for Revival & People Empowerment (CARE), a group associated with the Pheu Thai Party led by Deputy Leader Phumtham Wechayachai. CARE emerged from differing perspectives within the Pheu Thai Party, diverging from the path of its former leader Sudarat Keyuraphan. Initially assembled in preparation for a new political party launch, CARE remained aligned with the Pheu Thai Party following Sudarat’s departure and formation of her own Thai Sang Thai party. Amidst the Pheu Thai Party’s separation from the Move Forward Party (MFP), conjecture swirled regarding the party’s future trajectory. Some speculated on a collaboration between Pheu Thai and the military-backed parties to establish the government. by Petch Petpailin Photo via Twitter/ Duangrit Bunnag -- The Thaiger 2023-08-31 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Officials detect new date-rape drug Flualprazolam from seized pills
BANGKOK (NNT) - Health officials have discovered for the first time in Thailand that Flualprazolam is being smuggled into the country. This emerging psychoactive substance is believed to have been sold as a fake prescription drug, while scientists have warned people about the tranquillization property of this drug that could enable criminals to abuse victims. The Department of Medical Sciences (DMS) has announced the detection of a novel psychoactive substance Flualprazolam smuggled into the country as a fake prescription drug. The Flualprazolam pills seized by the officials come in light orange color, with the letters Erimin and number 5 embossed on each side. This branding seems to imitate the hypnotic and sedative drug Nimetazepam, which is sold under the brand name Erimin. DMS Director General Dr. Supakit Sirilak said tests performed at the Regional Medical Sciences Center 12 in Songkhla confirmed the presence of Flualprazolam in these pills. Alprazolam is a tranquilizer better known for its brand name Xanax, while Flualprazolam, the substance found in these pills, is a fluorinated analog of alprazolam. It is a modification of the Benzodiazepines or "Benzos" class of drugs. Drugs in this class are being called date-rape drugs when used illicitly, due to their tranquilizing effects. Unlike Alprazolam, which is being used legally for the treatment of anxiety disorders and other symptoms, Flualprazolam is considered a modified drug that is used only for illicit purposes. Given no usage of Flualprazolam in the medical field, Dr. Supakit said the effects of Flualprazolam on the body are not fully understood. Flualprazolam is expected to cause the same sedative effects as Alprazolam, with fast onset and lasting effects between 6 and 14 hours. Consumption of these substances can induce sleep, unconsciousness, or even death. Flualprazolam is considered a novel psychoactive substance, classified in Schedule 1 of Thailand’s psychotropic substance list. Possession, sale, and usage of Flualprazolam are strictly prohibited under Thai law. by Tanakorn Sangiam Source: https://thainews.prd.go.th/en/news/detail/TCATG230831113040286 -- NNT 2023-08-31 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Does Pheu Thai-led coalition spell death for the red-shirt movement?
Pheu Thai’s recent decision to embrace parties linked with the 2010 bloody military crackdown on red-shirt protesters may have shaken many members of the movement. However, it has far from destroyed its spirit. “The red shirts have existed and will continue to exist,” affirmed Thida Thavornseth, a former leader of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), the group that led the red-shirt movement for more than a decade. While noting that the movement got behind the Thai Rak Thai (TRT) Party and its reincarnations, People’s Power and Pheu Thai, Thida prefers to see “red” as synonymous with the struggle against injustice. The red shirts, she explained, are people who want to secure power for the people.
