Police Crack Down on Stations Assisting Illegal Call Centers
The Royal Thai Police and the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) are cracking down on unauthorized communication antennas that have enabled call center gangs across the border to utilize Thai mobile phone and internet services. Police Deputy Commissioner Pol Gen Torsak Sukvimol led police officers on an inspection of unauthorized radio communication stations in Aranyaprathet district of Sa Kaeo province. Officials also inspected licensed stations that breached the conditions required of them, such as by turning radio transmitters toward Cambodia. A total of 27 communication stations were inspected. The move was in response to investigators having discovered that most call center gangs were operating from the Thai-Cambodian border and were using telephone and internet connectivity from Thailand. Four of the inspected stations were deemed to have set up operations without authorization. Their radio antennas were also found turned towards Cambodia. Officials disassembled and seized the equipment involved in the activities and are proceeding with the prosecution of those involved. 23 of the stations inspected had licenses but the sector panels on their antennas were turned towards Cambodia. The license holders have been ordered to quickly rectify the set-up of their antennas, either by removing them or turning the sector panels toward a direction that would not result in signals being broadcast outside Thailand. Pol. Gen. Torsak reminded the public that criminals were constantly adjusting their methods of extracting information from victims. Very often, scam callers would make references to state agencies when they are contacting potential victims, in an effort to seem more credible. Those unsure about calls made allegedly from public agencies should make direct inquiries to the agencies or call the hotline number 1441. The Political Theatre of a PM Vote: A Play in Three Acts
It feels like an unfathomably long time ago, but Thailand had an election on May 14 that has yet to produce a new prime minister and government. For many Thais, this has felt like an extended piece of political theatre — each step in equal parts numbingly predictable for any keen observer of Thai politics, but also breathtakingly surprising as they materialized, for the norms of two decades that they seemed to shatter. In this piece, we recap the events leading up to what promises to be a highly eventful week in Thai politics and map out how the final part of this political script may play out. by Thai Enquirer Full story: https://www.thaienquirer.com/50459/the-political-theatre-of-a-pm-vote-a-play-in-three-acts/ -- THAI ENQUIRER 2023-08-21 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. The EEC covers three provinces, namely Chonburi, Rayong and Chachoengsao on the eastern coast of the country, and aims to realize the Thailand 4.0 strategy to promote sustainable economic growth. Rainfall reign: 46 provinces under threat as TMD predicts deluge and Bangkok braces for flash floods
The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) warns that increased rainfall poses a threat to 46 provinces today, forecasting heavy rainfall in 70% of the areas while Bangkok is also at risk, with an abrupt flash floods warning issued due to tormenting forest runoffs. The TMD claims that a tropical storm flowing over the northern and upper northeastern regions of the country, alongside a low-pressure ridge hitting central Vietnam, paired with moderate south-westerlies covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand have all contributed to these conditions. These have led to an increase in rainfall and occasional bouts of heavy to very heavy downfalls in some areas. The TMD advises residents in these areas to remain cautious of potential harms caused by heavy rainfall and accumulated precipitation, which could lead to sudden flash floods and rushing forest runoffs, particularly in hillside areas near waterways and low-lying regions. The mid-strength wind waves in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand have increased with wave heights of 1-2 metres. Regions experiencing thundershowers are prone to even more elevated waves, exceeding 2 metres. Mariners in these areas are advised to navigate with caution and avoid venturing into areas experiencing thundershowers. by Nattapong Westwood Picture courtesy of KhaoSod Full story: https://thethaiger.com/news/national/meteorological-department-issues-heavy-rainfall-and-flash-flood-warning-for-46-thai-provinces-due-to-tropical-storm -- Thaiger 2023-08-21 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Berlin Police seek to track down a brutal attacker who used a glass bottle to kill a Thai woman
Thai woman murdered on street outside restaurant in Germany by Petch Petpailin Photo via Facebook/ ข่าวP-Newsออนไลน์ Local police officers are hunting for a suspect who murdered a 61 year old Thai restaurant owner on Kantstrasse Road in the city of Berlin in Germany. German police officers reported on Friday, August 18, that they discovered the dead body of a Thai woman, 61 year old Siliya Saiwongpanya on a footpath near Fuggerstrasse Road in the Schoeneberg neighbourhood of Berlin. According to a German media report, Siliya suffered a severe neck wound, which caused her death. Her blood-stained handbag was found on the floor. Nearby the body officers discovered a broken glass bottle which they believe was used to murder Siliya. Based on initial observations, law enforcement officials speculate that the motivation behind the murder might be rooted in personal conflict as none of Siliya’s possessions appear to have been stolen. Local media reported that the suspect quickly fled the scene and now remains at large.
