Sickly Thaksin Involved Hands-On In Allocation Of Cabinet Portfolios
A SICKLY THAKSIN SHINAWATRA, the de facto Pheu Thai boss, has managed to virtually put his hands on the business of compromising and allocating cabinet portfolios among varied coalition partners, a partisan source said today (Aug.23). Having been transferred from Bangkok Remand Prison to the Police Hospital for illnesses reported by prison officials in the middle of the night, the deposed prime minister now literally has access to a cellphone with which he could play his part in the allocating of the cabinet portfolios, most of which are proportionately given to his own party. No cellphone is allowed for use by inmates at Bangkok Remand Prison or any other prisons. The de facto Pheu Thai boss yesterday returned from 17 years of self-exile abroad, was almost immediately brought to the Supreme Court to formally hear of his earlier convicted eight-year jail term due to a few separate cases of misconduct and was then brought to Bangkok Remand Prison where he barely stayed for half a day at a nursing unit in the premises of the prison. Rebel Democrat MPs explain their support for Srettha
One of the 16 rebel Democrat MPs, who defied a party resolution by voting for Pheu Thai party’s prime ministerial candidate Srettha Thavisin, claimed yesterday (Tuesday) that they did so because they wanted to find a “way out” for the country. Chaichana Detdecho, a constituency MP for Nakhon Si Thammarat province, said that the group had not expected to catch “the last train” and be incorporated in the coalition government. He claimed that some of them had returned to their constituencies, after the May 14th general election, where the voters told them that they wanted a new government to be formed quickly, because more than three months had passed since the election. China Seeks Enhanced Cooperation With Thailand Across Various Fields
BEIJING (NNT) - Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi recently met with visiting Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai in Beijing. Both parties expressed their intention to enhance their cooperation in various areas, including regional and economic cooperation. Noting that the development of bilateral relations will not be affected by changes in international circumstances or the domestic situation in Thailand, Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said he believed Thailand will maintain stability and sustained development. Wang added that China is ready to deepen cooperation in various fields with Thailand, urging the acceleration of the construction of the China-Thailand railway and the China-Laos-Thailand railway connection lines. He also encouraged joint efforts to crack down on transnational criminal activities, including telecom fraud. Additionally, Wang indicated China’s readiness to continue supporting the development of the ASEAN community, ASEAN centrality, and joint efforts to build an economic growth center. According to the Chinese foreign minister, China is ready to work with ASEAN countries to speed up consultations on the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea, strive for the early formation of effective and substantive regional rules, and make the South China Sea a region of peace, friendship and cooperation. He also said regional countries should guard against forces outside the region provoking camp-based confrontation and encouraging a Cold War mentality, which will undermine the hard-won peace and stability. The Thai Deputy Prime Minister said that amid the current situation of rising international and regional uncertainties, Thailand is willing to further strengthen dialogue and exchanges with China, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, promote the China-Laos-Thailand railway connection, and work for common development. by Paul Rujopakarn Source: https://thainews.prd.go.th/en/news/detail/TCATG230823144334222 -- NNT 2023-08-23 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. British Trans Comedian Darcie Silver Passes Away in Thailand
Darcie Silver, a British trans comedian known for her comedic brilliance showcased at the prestigious Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2019, has tragically passed away in Thailand at the age of 35. While her time with us was cut short under circumstances yet to be disclosed, Darcie Silver left an indelible mark with her sharp wit and unapologetic humor. She shared her experience in 2019, recounting an incident where she was asked to leave a women’s changing room in a store due to her identity. Her journey was an ongoing battle against transphobia, a struggle that she courageously faced. At the time of her untimely departure, Darcie was contributing her skills to a cosmetic and gender-affirming hospital in Bangkok, where she was engaged in patient liaison and marketing endeavors. Kamol Hospital, the esteemed institution where she worked, conveyed the heartbreaking news through an Instagram post on a somber Saturday (August 19). In their social media tribute, Kamol Hospital expressed deep gratitude for Darcie’s multifaceted contributions. Not only was she a dedicated professional, but she was also a cherished friend, sister, and a compassionate soul who had a profound impact on countless lives. Her connection to Thai culture was palpable, often seeking solace and inspiration within the confines of local temples, a passion that will be honored in accordance with Thai tradition during her funeral rites. Prime minister’s most complicated, treacherous and unenviable task
Tough as they were, the jobs of Prayut Chan-o-cha, Yingluck Shinawatra, Abhisit Vejjajiva appeared straightforward. And it would have been the same for Pita Limjaroenrat if he had been named the 30th prime minister of Thailand. Srettha Thavisin, on the other hand, is having the most intricate work full of booby traps, outright dangers and potential traitors. To start with, in politics, even a less cut-throat one, it’s never the more the merrier. The Srettha coalition contains too many parties having clashing ideologies, public policies, personal rivals and vested interests. The first big test will come very soon in the form of fighting for administrative positions. To be able to pacify all is highly unlikely, and to be able to pacify all and have an efficient Cabinet with top-notch ethics at the same time is simply impossible. Economically speaking, there will be the likes of the “digital wallet” policy that Srettha advocates but many of his present government partners question. The cannabis issue will threaten and probably shorten his honeymoon with Bhumjaithai. Projects undertaken by the previous government can lead to strife when up for review. Pheu Thai’s projects, often regarded with suspicion among those who are now in the Srettha alliance, will also lead to fundamental disagreement.
