  3. Traffic police officers to start wearing new uniforms on September 15 by Namo Vananupong BANGKOK (NNT) - People in Thailand will soon see traffic police officers in new uniforms. The Royal Thai Police has allocated a budget for the updated field uniforms, which are aimed at improving traffic police officers’ agility and safety. The new uniforms will be worn from September 15. Royal Thai Police Commissioner Damrongsak Kittipraphat earlier appointed a working committee for adjusting the uniform of traffic police officers, with input having been gathered from police officers nationwide. The Royal Thai Police reached a conclusion to assign traffic police officers the same type of uniform used by crime prevention and suppression officers. However, the backside of the new uniform has a white logo strip with the text “Traffic Police” and a fluorescent armband. The new uniform can also be used by the same police officer if he or she switches to work in crime prevention and suppression. According to Pol. Gen. Damrongsak, traffic police officers play the vital role of facilitating traffic, helping people on the roads, and carrying out measures to reduce or prevent road accidents. The officers also function in other tasks as assigned. According to the police chief, using the same uniform type as crime prevention and suppression officers will make the work of traffic police officers safer and more effective while giving the wearer greater agility. He noted the issuance of the new uniform will be the first time traffic police officers are provided with a field uniform, and this would boost their morale. AI being used to translate ancient Thai texts on traditional medicine into modern language by Namo Vananupong BANGKOK (NNT) - Artificial intelligence is now being used to translate ancient Thai texts on traditional medicine into modern language to make them more usable by interested parties. 6. BANGKOK (NNT) - Artificial intelligence is now being used to translate ancient Thai texts on traditional medicine into modern language to make them more usable by interested parties. This initiative is part of the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine’s (DTAM) efforts in developing a platform that would bring various traditional medicine and herb-related innovations onto the market. DTAM Director-General Thongchai Lertwilairatanapong announced the progress of a “Healthcare Platform Utilizing Knowledge on Thai Medicine Knowledge and Smart Herbs”. The platform is being jointly developed by the department and King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB). Dr. Thongchai explained that the platform contains 4 modules. The first module is a collection of texts on traditional Thai medicine gathered from folding-book manuscripts, palm leaf manuscripts, and stone inscriptions. Around 50,000 records are being collected as digital prototypes under the “Smart TTM Library” system. Another module involves the translation of ancient text from no less than 200,000 traditional Thai medicine prescriptions into modern words, to enable faster extraction of information from these texts. The third module has to do with compiling big data on herbal products and Thai traditional and alternative medicine services so information from various sources may be linked and added value may be generated in the future. The final module entails the development of digital innovations to elevate Thai traditional and alternative medicine services and knowledge and to provide smart solutions for matters to do with Thai herbs. This module will enable health questions, evaluation, and treatment in the traditional Thai medicine sphere to be assisted by AI. One of the innovations under this module provides virtual visits to Thailand Herbal Expo, the Traditional Thai Medicine Museum, and a Thai herbs garden. Herbal products may be sold or purchased through this system. The platform is expected to come into service next year. by Namo Vananupong Source: https://thainews.prd.go.th/en/news/detail/TCATG230816095716165 -- NNT 2023-08-16

  8. The Thai Meteorological Department reveals today that across Thailand, intense rain is anticipated for 60% to 80% of the country, with some regions expected to experience heavy downpours. Particularly for Bangkok’s capital, afternoon to evening rain showers are expected. This weather prediction points towards an acute southwesterly monsoon, currently strong over the Andaman Sea and Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand where it’s starting to weaken. As a subtropical ridge weakens while traversing the northern part of Thailand, and the upper Laos region, it allows a low-pressure trough around the upper Vietnam and Tonkin Gulf to influence Thailand’s weather, causing heavy rain in some locations in the northern, northeastern, eastern, and eastern regions by the southern coast. This ongoing condition still leads to very heavy rain in certain areas around the west coast of the southern region. In the northern region, there’s a 60% chance of rain with thunderstorms, and heavy rain is expected in some areas in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Phrae, Lamphun, Lampang, Uttaradit and Tak. The weather temperature range is between 23-27 degrees Celsius, with the high being between 32-37 degrees Celsius. The wind comes from a southwestern direction, moving at a speed of 10-20 kilometres per hour. In the northeastern region, similar conditions are predicted with a 60% chance of rain and thunderstorms. Heavy rainfall is also forecasted around Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon and Nakhon Phanom provinces. Low temperatures in the region are between 23-26 degrees Celsius, with the top temperatures reaching 34-37 degrees Celsius. Winds are blowing from the southwest at speeds of 10-20 kilometres per hour. by Nattapong Westwood Picture courtesy of vecstock, Freepik Full story: https://thethaiger.com/hot-news/weather/heavy-rain-forecasted-across-thailand-due-to-strong-southwest-monsoon -- Thaiger 2023-08-16

Rolls of redemption: Chinese woman forgives Thai driver after Rolls-Royce collision by Petch Petpailin Photo via Twitter @RedSkullxxx A Chinese woman’s remarkable display of forgiveness illuminated an incident involving a Thai pickup driver colliding with her 32 million baht Rolls-Royce on a motorway bridge near Bangkok. The accident, captured by a dashcam from a passing vehicle, was shared on the Twitter account Red Skull. In the video, a bronze pickup forcefully collided with the rear of the black Rolls-Royce. The pickup’s occupants, visibly concerned, were observed conversing on their phones, presumably seeking advice on how to proceed. #วัยรุ่นสร้างตัว pic.twitter.com/ByGP78xLMM The caption on the video said… “Pickup crashes into a Rolls-Royce which is worth 32 million baht. Will the pickup’s car insurance cover the damage cost? The accident occurred at about 3.40pm on the motorway that leads to Bangkok.” Initially, Red Skull’s Twitter account attributed the fault to the pickup driver, accusing them of tailgating and thus causing the collision. However, the Rolls-Royce’s owner, a 21 year old Chinese woman, came forward to clarify the situation.
