  2. Sanook reported that Chuwit Kamolvisit, a veteran Thai politician, released a contentious analysis on his Facebook page. He highlighted the power struggle in the formation of the government and the imminent prime minister elections. The Constitutional Court is now deliberating an Election Commission plea to investigate Pita, alongside a massive campaign for Section 112 amendment, with the controversial ITV shares case on hold. Chuwit suggested a plot to overthrow Pita as Prime Minister. He alleged the Election Commission was hastily pushing media share issues to the court, attempting to suspend MPs from their duties. The move, he claimed, was part of a secret deal. Meanwhile, the Court is considering a petition to amend Section 112 by the Progressive Party, potentially leading to dissolution. Chuwit warned against such a secret deal, yet, his caution was ignored. Despite Anon's effort to mobilize protests, Chuwit advises patience, arguing that street protests aren't the solution to democratic issues. He concluded by saying the Progressive Party's move isn't about dignity but a strategic play. He warns against falling for his analysis, reminding readers of his long experience in politics. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2023-07-13 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 16. Move Forward party leader Pita Limjaroenrat claimed today (Wednesday) that he has been unfairly treated by the Election Commission (EC), with its decision to submit the iTV share case to the Constitutional Court for consideration, without giving him a chance to defend himself. In reacting to the EC’s decision, which came one day ahead of the selection of the prime minister in parliament tomorrow, Pita said he understands the intention of the law, which prohibits politicians using the media with a political agenda. He noted that the iTV channel ceased operating a long time ago and the media company has not earned any revenue from the TV channel. “There is no way for me to benefit from a media entity which ceased operations about 17 years ago,” said Pita, as he pointed out the commission’s submission of his case to the Charter Court after considering it for about 32 days, which seems hasty when compared to a similar case against the cabinet, for which the EC took 386 days. Move Forward party secretary-general Chaithawat Tulathon has accused the Election Commission (EC) of acting suspiciously with its hasty decision to ask the Constitutional Court to consider party leader Pita Limjaroenrat’s iTV share-holding case, without giving Pita a chance to defend the case. Chaithawat and a group of Move Forward MPs held an impromptu press conference in parliament this morning, immediately after the EC submitted the case to the Constitutional Court and asked the court to order Pita to stop performing his duty as an MP immediately, before the court even decides whether to accept the case. 22. Markets anticipate gains of Pita gets the nod on Thursday despite new turmoil over court referral by Joseph O' Connor Constitutional Court to rule on Pita next week, sparking added anxiety about the political process. For conservatives in Thailand, however, the unthinkable may be about to happen as the financial markets anticipate an investment rally if Mr Pita Limjaroenrat is elected by a joint session of parliament on Thursday. However, there are still reports that only 20 members of the Senate or Upper those will support the bid and apprehension that the country could be plunged into a period of political uncertainty and turmoil. After an appeal yesterday in the media to senators and MPs to support his candidacy for Prime Minister, the canvassing of senators and MPs continued on Wednesday with both the Move Forward and Pheu Thai parties executives working to drum up support for Thursday’s crucial vote to elect the 3oth Prime Minister of Thailand. At the same time, Move Forward officials and advisors to Pita Limjaroenrat are fighting a rearguard action to fight off a last-minute Constitutional Court intervention as the Election Commission filed a petition on Wednesday which will be heard next week. The poll agency has come under intense political pressure from the right with one conservative senator threatening to sue the body for not taking action on the issue of Mr Pita’s shares in a defunct media firm at an earlier stage. On Wednesday, a last-minute petition was filed with the court which ruled that it was too late to consider at its weekly meeting on the same day. This will now be reviewed next Wednesday adding another layer of uncertainty to the political situation as it is certain how the court may rule or the extent of such a ruling even if it goes against Mr Pita.
