EC sends Pita shareholding case to Charter Court
EC sends Pita shareholding case to Charter Court Thailand’s Election Commission (EC) decided this morning (Wednesday) to send Move Forward party leader Pita Limjaroenrat’s iTV shareholding case to the Constitutional Court for consideration. The EC also asked the court to order Pita to stop performing his duty as an MP immediately, until there is a decision by the court in the next three days as to whether to accept the case for consideration. The EC, at its meeting this morning, agreed with its fact-finding committee’s conclusion that there is sufficient evidence to prove that Pita owned 42,000 shares in iTV, a media company, when he registered his election candidacy. The EC’s decision comes one day ahead of the joint sitting of the House and Senate to select a new prime minister for Thailand. In a swift response to the EC’s move, the Move Forward party accused the commission of not following its own regulations and, therefore, committing malfeasance in office, in accordance with Section 157 of the Criminal Code. Thunderstorms forecast: Heavy rainfall to sweep across 40% of territory, including Bangkok
Thunderstorms Forecast released today by the Meteorological Department has warned that Thailand will continue to experience thunderstorms, predicting that 40% of the territory, including Bangkok, will be hit by heavy rainfall. A southwesterly monsoon that currently covers the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand is causing these downpours. Accordingly, in both the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, waves are expected to reach about one metre high. In areas affected by thunderstorms, they may reach between one and two metres. Seafarers in these regions are therefore advised to navigate with caution and avoid areas undergoing thunderstorms. The weather forecast for Thailand from 6am today to 6am tomorrow reports that different parts of the country will have varying intensities of rain and thunderstorms, reported Sanook. The Northern region, most notably in provinces like Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Lamphun, Lampang, Tak, Sukhothai, and Kamphaeng Phet, will have thunderstorms covering 40% of its area. The minimum temperature here will range from 23 to 26 degrees Celsius and the maximum will be between 34 to 37 degrees Celsius. A southwest wind will blow at a speed of 10 to 20 kilometres per hour. by Samantha Rose Photo courtesy of Freepik Full story: https://thethaiger.com/hot-news/weather/thailand-on-alert-heavy-monsoon-rains-to-sweep-across-40-of-territory-including-bangkok -- © Copyright Thaiger 2023-07-12 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Will it be Pita? A guide to this week’s vote for a new prime minister
This Thursday (July 13) will see a crucial vote in Thailand’s Parliament when 500 MPs and 250 senators convene to select the country’s 30th prime minister. Move Forward Party leader Pita Limjaroenrat is the main candidate for the top job as he is backed by a coalition of eight political parties with a combined 312 MPs. Led by Move Forward, which won the May 14 election with 151 seats, the coalition commands a majority in the House of Representatives that would be enough to elect Pita as PM if only MPs could vote. However, a provisional clause in the Constitution allows the Senate to join the Lower House in electing the prime minister. Anyone nominated for the PM seat requires majority support from both Houses, or at least 376 votes. That means Pita needs at least 64 more votes to achieve the required majority. And it won’t be easy for him and Move Forward to achieve that goal, analysts say. Some point to a high possibility of Pita failing to win the PM’s seat. Senators Under Pressure Over Imminent Vote For PM
A NUMBER OF SENATORS have remained under pressure as a phenomenal voting of Move Forward leader Pita Limjaroenrat for prime minister is approaching on Thursday, said Move Forward secretary-general Chaithawat Tulathon Tuesday (July 11). Some of the unelected legislators have been psychologically intimidated or even threatened to get blackmailed whilst others have been offered concrete interests in exchange for their abstention from voting in a desperate bid to avert Pita’s elected premiership during Thursday’s joint House/Senate session, according to the Move Forward secretary-general. Chaithawat declined to name names but expressed his sympathy for those senators under pressure allegedly exerted by those who might desperately strive to keep the Move Forward leader from taking the helm of government despite his having solid support from a majority of MPs under control of the Move Forward-led, eight coalition partners.
