  1. THAI to Finalize Deal to Buy 30 New Aircraft by Paul Rujopakarn BANGKOK (NNT) - Thai Airways (THAI) aims to finalize a deal to buy at least 30 new aircraft by the end of the year and could double its fleet of narrow-body jets over the next decade, according to its chief executive. 2. BANGKOK (NNT) - Thai Airways (THAI) aims to finalize a deal to buy at least 30 new aircraft by the end of the year and could double its fleet of narrow-body jets over the next decade, according to its chief executive. THAI CEO Chai Eamsiri said in an interview with Reuters at the airline’s headquarters in Bangkok that the airline will issue a ’request for proposal’ to Airbus and Boeing to buy 30 wide-body and an undisclosed number of narrow-body aircraft next week. The carrier is looking to cash in on a post-pandemic travel boom by bolstering regional routes, but there have been concerns over whether planemakers Airbus and Boeing will be able to ramp up output to meet delivery targets. Chai said THAI, which began bankruptcy protected restructuring of debt worth 400 billion baht (US$11.17 billion) in 2021, currently has a fleet of 20 Airbus A320 aircraft and has secured a dozen new A321neo on lease for delivery in 2025 and 2026. These aircraft would be deployed to serve destinations in Southeast Asia, India, southern China and southern Japan - key medium-haul routes that THAI wants to reinforce. Chai noted that the carrier’s wide-body fleet will also increase from 45 currently to 56 aircraft by the first quarter of next year, with the additional jets coming on dry lease contracts, which typically do not include crew. "That’s for the short term," according to Chai, who added that the aircraft will be used on long-distance intercontinental routes to Australia and Europe that have seen a strong recovery since the pandemic. THAI’s cabin factor - the percentage of seats sold - was at about 84% in the last quarter and the CEO said advance bookings from markets like Europe were looking "promising". Chai, a former Thai Airways chief financial officer who took over as CEO last November, said the airline’s pandemic-driven restructuring plan was on track and it would relist on the stock market by the first quarter of 2025. by Paul Rujopakarn #news Source: https://thainews.prd.go.th/en/news/detail/TCATG230628092004833 -- © Copyright NNT 2023-06-28 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 7. A surge of interest in Thailand’s budding electric vehicle (EV) industry has been noted among businesses from France and Germany. The Thailand Board of Investment (BoI) revealed this interest following an investment promotion roadshow in these European nations. The BoI’s Deputy Secretary-General, Wirat Tatsaringkansakul, suggested a particularly keen receptiveness from French and German investors. These potential investors are reportedly looking into expanding their production bases and outsourcing companies to satisfy the surging demand of the Asian market. It’s not just an interest in the pure EV industry. Investment prospects in the components of EVs, electronics, as well as the medical and healthcare sectors are also being eagerly explored by these investors. France and Germany were the venues for an investment encouragement roadshow, designed to lure in foreign businesses to Thailand. The event was held from June 18 to 23. The roadshow created an opportunity for executives of the BoI to engage Business France, a state-owned agency providing guidance to French companies intending to invest overseas, as well as foreign firms intending to set up businesses in France. 9. Two deaths linked with cannabis use and violent incidents reported in recent days by Thai police by James Morris and Son Nguyen Krabi police on Monday night arrested a 36-year-old identified as Mr Bless Thongtan, who appeared to be hallucinating and told them that God had instructed him to murder a 32-year-old local neighbour and durian farmer. The suspect told police that he had been smoking marijuana but had also taken two methamphetamine tablets. 10. Krabi police on Monday night arrested a 36-year-old identified as Mr Bless Thongtan, who appeared to be hallucinating and told them that God had instructed him to murder a 32-year-old local neighbour and durian farmer. The suspect told police that he had been smoking marijuana but had also taken two methamphetamine tablets. Evidence in both cases speaks to the perpetrators experiencing a hallucinatory state and not being able to take responsibility for their actions. In the first incident, in Nong Bua Lamphu, police sought a toxicology report from an autopsy on a 14-year-old boy addicted to marijuana who had just attacked his grandfather with a cleaver before hanging himself from a tree. Two people have died in Thai provinces in recent days in violent incidents linked to marijuana use. One of the cases, on Monday night, involved a 36-year-old man in a state of hallucination who attacked a neighbour in Krabi, killing the man with a machete. The man admitted to police he had taken methamphetamine pills and smoked marijuana while on Sunday night, in Nong Bua Lamphu, a 14-year-old boy, reportedly addicted to cannabis, committed suicide after attacking his grandfather. Police later found a marijuana bong discarded on his bed in a hut near the house. The scale of Thailand’s drug epidemic and perhaps an insight into the public’s concerns over the free availability of marijuana in the kingdom can be seen from two violent incidents in the past two days involving a 14-year-old in Nong Bua Lamphu and a 36-year-old perpetrator in Krabi. by James Morris and Son Nguyen #news Full story: https://www.thaiexaminer.com/thai-news-foreigners/2023/06/28/two-deaths-linked-with-cannabis-and-violence-krabi-nong-bua-lamphu/ -- © Copyright Thai Examiner 2023-06-28 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 17. Police Move To Clear Criminal Record Of 13 Million Thais by TNR Staff Deputy National Police Chief Pol. Gen. Surachate Hakparn, left, and Mr. Prinya Thaewanarumitkul. Photo: Thai Rath WITH the announcement of the amendment of police regulations on fingerprinting on May 27, 2023 which in the past led to fingerprinted suspects having a criminal background thus unable to apply for a job despite the charges having later being dropped against them the police are now rushing to clear the record of 13 million Thais thus affected, TV Channel 7 said Tuesday (June 27). Mr. Prinya Thaewanarumitkul, head of Thammasat University’s law faculty, said the unamended regulation led to suspects against whom charges were later dropped or who had died to continue having criminal record. To remove their name from the listing they had to prove that it was a wrongful arrest or the suspect had died. Discussions between relevant agencies including the courts, prosecutors and the police discovered that it was the police who were directly involved in this listing. Each year there are more than 800,000 criminal cases involving more than 13 million Thais, or one in every six Thai citizens, and they previously all were listed as having a criminal record.
