Hi folks, the current Mrs Ellis FLR will expire in January 2021 and we’ll be looking to go for the ILR is it true that you HAVE to have the Life in the UK test under your belt before you even apply for the ILR?
Thanks
Jimmy

Passport back today with a 6 month multiple entry, was the easiest Schengen we’ve got for Spain so far for sure, should it be a bit cheaper in the postage - of course, I found the information on the BLS site and what actually happened at the office was different but in our favour so not worrying too much, at least we know for sure next time, pretty easy and now a 6 month visa so France is easy pickings as well as it’s just down the road!!

The postage fee of £24.95 is mentioned on the BLS website, I emailed the direct address I was given of the consulate asking about applying directly and also about taking my own pre-paid envelope etc, was told we had to go through the BLS people and also their postal service was the only option unless you want to collect the passport which is free but we’d spend more than £24.95 going to get it! We’re happy with not paying the £50 visa fee and (assuming) when we get the visa it’s been pretty painless but there has been quite a discrepancy about what is mentioned that we’d need for a Spouse of an EU visa (mainly the card with that written in which we don’t have) and what the guy in the office said ‘your fine with the wedding certificate to get that visa’, anyway I’ll keep you posted when it turns up!!

So we had the appointment today, I mailed the above address a few times and asking about the fee’s etc and basically got a standard response quoting from the website, basically we were going to just go ahead and pay for the tourist visa, as I’m Mrs E’s sponsor we went along with my bank statements, insurance, bookings etc, when we seen by the agent he put us Mrs E through as the spouse of an EU citizen category, he said not having the card doesn’t matter as we’re married and can prove it etc so happy days, no visa fee but a fee of £15 which is a processing fee and (this is taking the Michael a bit) a fee of £25 to send the passport back registered etc, I said it only costs about £5-6 but he said that’s the price otherwise you can collect it for free but as we’re 2 hours away and I can’t be arsed, so £40 paid today for our ‘free’ visa!!!

Asking for a friend, basically they submitted the wrong English cert for the visa, as far as I understand it my friend got confused and believed they could reuse the A1 for the FLR, the visa was refused and they’ve lost all of the visa fee, they promptly got the right cert and resubmitted it via post and got the FLR, does anyone have any experience of this and possibly trying to get a refund of the original fee, they tried to just add the new cert to the visa pack but they were told as a decision has been made etc you have to reapply with a whole new application, he was trying to make the point of it wasn’t so much a refusal because of non legibility but a clerical error!!!
Any chance anyone think of a refund??

On the Spanish website it goes through the visa requirements etc and says you can get it for free as the spouse/relation of an EU citizen and it doesn’t mention the requirements of an ID card stating the fact BUT it does say that ALL applications and appointments HAVE to go trough the BLS service!!

Has anyone on here actually applied for and got a spouse visa from the Spanish Embassy in London and not through the BLS offices????

Not ideal but I’m going to just apply for the tourist visa, my only concern was the forms asked for from my friend who’s place it is but as he’s not there until after we are I’ve just booked a hotel for time there to get the confirmation then will cancel it when we get the visa, not worth all the hassle and possible refusal going down the spouse route without the card saying ‘family member of an EU citizen’ etc, has any Thai person actually got one of these cards, are they easy to get??
Mrs E will be going for the ILR in a couple of years and citizenship so this visa nonsense fortunately won’t be forever!!

Reading on the website it says that to get the Spouse visa you need to have the EEA version of a residence permit, so as Mrs E has the UK immigration version of the card does that mean we have to apply for a tourist visa and not the Spouse one??

I’m hoping so!!

I’ve had a reply back from them and they are basically just quoting the website. I don’t mind providing tickets etc or even paying the fee, my wife has had 3 Spanish Schengen Visa’s before when we were traveling to my parents place in Tenerife so I had the deeds etc in this case we’re going to a friends rented house in Malaga and it’s talking about police letters and he’s not there now until the month after we go, so I think we’ll go for the Spouse version and (as I’ve done with all my wife’s visa applications) just add in everything to the application that we have even if it’s not officially required, bank statements, tickets, insurance etc etc, we’re only going for 10 days, we have 2 kids that have British passports, the wife is on an FLR and has had 5 different Schengen visa’s in the past - 3 for Spain..............surely!!!!!

BLS is the site, only an admin fee to pay of £12, minimal documents required as per their checklist!!!!

Looking on the site now and choosing the EU spouse option it says it’s free and you only need to show minimal documents to prove status, at last something done as it should be regarding Schengen!!!!

I’ve heard back, as we’re traveling together Mrs E only needs to apply for a spouse of an EU citizen visa which is basically proving we’re married and her status in the UK, so pretty straight forward.

As far as I’m aware you have to apply in your country of residence which in this case is now the UK.

I’ve emailed the helpline and have asked the question so I’ll keep you posted as to the reply.

I know that as the wife of an EU citizen etc you shouldn’t need to prove certain things but I always worry when they list things like this......aarrrhh.

We are in the process of getting all the crap together for a Spanish Schengen visa in London, Mrs E has had 2 of these before but were obtained in Bangkok, this time we’re off to a mates house out there, according to the document check list if we are staying at a friends etc then we need a letter of invitation from the police, problem is my mate won’t be in Spain between now and when we fly out, HELP, we didn’t have to do this on the previous occasions in Thailand, anyone have any experience??
Thanks
Jimmy

We are just about to be sorting out the 2nd stage of Mrs E's settlement visa - the FLR, I have a list of all the test centres available for the language test and the nearest to Kent is London, I have a friend who's in the same position as us and is adamant that the current Mrs E can do the test in Canterbury but I can't find the details so I'm saying London - anyone have any advance on that?
Thanks
Mr E
Final year of FLR before citizenship
in Visas and migration to other countries
Posted
Hi TV peeps, it’s been a while. The wife’s FLR is up on the 31st January and that will be the 5 years complete so once she is granted the ILR we can then crack on with citizenship.......and we have a few questions, I’m admittedly being a bit lazy and coming straight here for the answers.
Does the current Mrs Ellis need the Life in the UK test before we can even apply fir the ILR, what happens if she doesn’t have it before the end of January, can it be applied for later I.e before citizenship Is applied for?
What are the rules regarding time out of the country for this last year?
Thanks in advance folks.
