  1. Help with math, Counting the days!!

When I count Jai Yens days with 5 oct. being the first i come up with 180 on 2 April! Am I counting wrong??

I'm leaving for cambodia tomorrow due to a similar problem, my first stamp was on 9 Oct 06, so 180 should be on 6 April 07. I was going to play it safe and come back on the 7th.

    Is my math wrong???

It is a 6 month period - NOT 180 days. You will be playing it safe if you return on 9 April irrespective of the interpretation being used by immigration.

I understand what you're saying! I'm not sure where I came up with 180, but obviously I was wrong. Wouldn't the 9th be exactly 6 months, so I would need to come back on the 10th?

    What a disaster!!

I would argue that 6 months finishes on 8 April, so 9 April starts a new period. But I will not be the smiling man in brown waiting to greet you and welcome you back into Thailand with a wai and a casual flourish and imprint of his permission to stay stamp.

The same nice man who gave me a 6 day stamp last week and said "Thank you for visiting Thailand!"

  3. Thank You Tony! I already have my reservations here:

A good guest house in Snooky to stay is the Ochheuteal Guest house The manager's name is Doe and he will pick you up from the wharf. (016945337) if you give him a call from Koh Kong the night before

I'm going to hit Sukumvit at about 06:30 and get the first bus going to Rayong or Trat, which ever I see first!

  4. Good news for Mac users.

There is a 75 % discount for all Apple-Macintosh users of new models puchased in Thailand since 31 March 2006. Owners must present the current guarantee certificate, bill of sale, and a certificate from an authorized Mac Center that the machine is virus free. NOTE: This does not apply to the three year extended warranty on machines purchased before 31 March 2006.

Sompoj Duangkamjan, Deputy Under Secretary for Civil Conformity stated in a telephone interview at 06:30 this morning, stated that the reasons for the discount are because Mac users are more environmentally friendly. When asked rto explain 'environmentally friendly' he added 'Because Mac are less open to viruses and pishing and Mac users are more mature members of the community.'

I was told that I need a letter from the ampo office to get this discount?

  5. Most reports I've read have recommended heading out to Sukumvit and waiting for a Rayong bound bus, but I also found this:

    PATTAYA TO TRAT BUS

Bus from Bangkok will pick-up in Pattaya at 6am and 11am at any bus stand in the south bound lane on the Sukhumvit Hwy. The Thai border closes at 5pm so you must get the first bus to make it unless you are spending the night along the way. Photo shown is the 11am bus. The Pattaya bus stand on Sukhumvit Highway across from Pattaya Klang Road is shown at the right in the photo. This bus stops at all major cities along the eastern seaboard. NOTE: this bus stand is now under construction. Just stand.

Anybody tried this? Do I need to go to Pattaya Klang or will any where on Sukumvit do?

  6. Make sure your VPI and VCI are correct. Mine are VPI = 1 and VCI = 32. If these are wrong, even if your DSL shows connect and your username and passwork are correct, you still won't be able to access the internet.

This is the set up I was assigend for my DSL from TOT. The numbers represents the phone number assigned to your house phone.

    USER NAME: 123456789@goldcyber

    PASSWORD: 123456789

My DSL light is lit but the internet light is off. What is VPI and VCI and how do I check them?

    Thanks

    BTW

This is an existing connection that I've never had to use my password to access. I'm using XP and the reason I'm currently trying to reset my ISP is because windows could not repair my network connection.

I'm being prompted to enter my ID because I'm using the disk provided by TOT to initiate/repair my connection

  7. I'm having trouble resetting my IP and can't find my username for TOT. I have goldcyber and I remember it being my telephone number..@goldcyber or something like that.

Could somebody more organized than myself check their paperwork and tell me how the username/password is constructed??

    Thank You!!!

  8. Taking the thai wife to Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.Does she need a visa?

Last year took her to Laos and it only cost her 20 baht.

Iwas just reading a post on lonely planet and this person said their Thai friend had to pay 1200 baht for a visa at Poipet border. I didn't think thai nationals needed a visa?

    VISA FREE TRAVEL FOR ASEANS

    Reported: Kong

    Issue: 9 August 2000

The Cambodian Government has unveiled visa-free travel arrangements with the following Asean countries: Brunei, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. Citizens from these countries can stay up to 14 days without needing to apply for a visa.

    Source :

    http://www.cambodia-travel.com/news/aug003.htm

NB Cost is another issue. eg You can make a visa

run into Burma from Ranong without a Burmese

visa but you do pay $10 in Kaw Theung.

    HTH

    :o

Do Thais need a passport to enter cambo or is their ID card enough?

    Thank You

    BTW

The question is for a 5 day stay

  9. I've been here for 5 years now and Interestingly enough the only two times I have been ill have been from farang restaurants, never from street vendors or Thai restaurants, with the food trade, repeat business is vital - so often shoddy or dirty vendors don't last long.

I agree, the vendors thrive on repeat business. I can't tell you how many places that my girl will not go back to any more because the food was My Alloy, or Soka pok.

Another story from the 90's. I was temp. living in Bangkok and on the weekends my ex and I would go to Sa Kaew for the weekends.

She once came back from the market with a complete pig head, when they started to prepare it they found that it was infested with maggots.

I told them to throw it away, I'll give them more money to go back! After much talking amongst them selves they decided to clean and eat it :o

  10. I love thai food also, but now when I want cheaper food I'll stick to the food courts at Lotus or Carrefour where I can only hope that their are some type of cleanliness guide lines.

I won't stop eating Thai food because I think it's unclean.

  11. I caught Giardia on a trip in the early 90's.

The same trip I remeber walking through a market in Hua Hin, I was looking at some sweets on a cart and thinking to my self the Thais must really love raisins.

The vendor saw my interest so waved her arms across the open pans of sweets and hundreds of flys flew off!

Lost my sweet tooth that trip!

  12. I was a Threpprasit market yesterday and mama wanted some Yam... As we walked up the girls was slicing some raw squid with her knife on the cutting board.

We ordered and of course the same cutting board and knife were used for the entire process. The salad is very heavy with lemon juice so I supposed that kills some germs, but I personally didn't eat it.

I get a kick out of the soup guys who run their business off of a side cart on their bikes reusing the same bowls all day!

TIT, The Thais have a very tough tolerance for germs...

  13. My policy is to go to the shop with the best-looking girls.

May not get the spare parts that I want, but there are always other possibilities.

yeah Mr Bear... and how many cellphones do you have now?

Five - ha ha ha ha :D

Lots of Katoeys on the second floor, "they drive a hard bargain" :o
