I have checked the price on Wishbeer, they quote 2,290 baht for 10 half litre bottles, the bar I used to go in charged about 170 baht a bottle but nobody drank it only me, so he stopped selling it. A sad day. A tad expensive but maybe I might treat myself for my birthday though.????

I’m Bar on Perfect Masterpiece, Rattanathibet road , Nonthaburi has about 10 Pauliner’s. Expensive as you say, but ok as I’ve got older, can’t take the quantity so only need a brace.

  2. Didn’t realize beer production was second only science to particle physics. I started smoking at 7 , by the time I was old enough to drink (11 I think) I couldn’t tell the difference between a fine cognac and Watneys red barrel.

After 5 Chang’s I can’t even find the bottle never mind read the best by date.

Cheers all, have a nice evening.

  3. Started off the year with 1917 at the cinema, first visit in about 15 years.  Then found an old VHS machine and some tapes in store and the first one without a label I fed into the player turned out to be Schindlers List.

Together with the alcohol/travel/socialising/swimming/visiting temples etc ban I'm now looking for something to lift my mood.

Consider that there could be a lot of people who are saving more money than normal; working from home and not going out. These people could be straight on a plane when a holiday is possible.

Totally agree, also there are many people that are, let’s say ‘comfortable’ with income and/or assets to ride out this problem.

I know a few and generally they don’t like being restricted and they tend to be risk takers.

The numbers will be down and the quality and average spend up (relating to the experience , not the consumer.)

I have 4 flights booked already taking opportunity of the no change fees (usually £300 a pop) and a list of other options I am considering.

Nothing different to the situation in Hong Kong a few years ago when the hotel occupancy rate dropped to 10%.

I have experienced a lot of pleasure from the tourist industry over the years and feel a duty to support it.

1.5 million alcohol-related deaths per year in Thailand alone. Why not take the opportunity to take a day off the sauce? Your choice, but your advice is insane.

Apologies if you can prove your statement is true. However i would be surprised if the total number of deaths annually from all circumstances in Thailand is 1 million. Maybe your choice of sauce is proving to be a problem. Finally, regardless of any other factors it is absolutely his/her choice.

  6. A big decision now for me. Years ago I used to go on booze runs to Calais, upwards of 300 bottles of wine + half a vat of beer.

The availability (just grab another bottle) started to become a problem so about 5 years ago I decided to only buy what was sensible for the forthcoming evening.

I’m tempted to stock up , hope I’m not tempted to become a professional drinker again. Can anyone  lend me a safe?

  7. Thai immigration will be overseeing operation Barmaid at selective outlets. Non Thai nationals will need to bring a copy of the Royal Gazette with them and read out the declaration. They will also need copies of their black green and pink books , 2 translated copies of their last high school report and have a bank statement showing they have 3 million baht in a Thai bank for the last 90 days. The bank statement must not be older than 8 and a half minutes.

Yeah and don't forget about those foods packed into the case then transported, unpacked in the stores put on shelves and then touched by the cashier as well. Even food cart people put the food into a plastic bag and then into a carry plastic bag.

BTW. USA has now basically proven the virus came from the Wuhan lab. So I wonder how the world is going to love the Chinese now? They should be charged in international court and then shunned left with the entire world sanctioning them. And to think this virus will now never go away is atrocious.

I heard that there was a theory that a lab assistant had ‘accidentally’ contaminated someone. Where did you read that the virus had been proven to have originated in a Wuhan lab?

  9. Traffic where I live and on my commute is down about 50%. Apart from last night when it reverted to crazy again.  Especially heading away from Bangkok.

I presumed they had just heard that a province nearby had opened its bars and sale of alcohol and were escaping.

I seriously thought about joining them.

  10. Anyone remember those 1980's BMW's. They would have been ideal for Thailand with its 3 roundabouts. Even in the dry the back end was always a bit twitchy when encountering bends.

I actually find most of the Thais to be very proficient at avoiding each other, my wife has great spacial awareness when driving, but they are lost when it comes to even the most gentle curve. Makes me laugh when the road sign indicates DANGER BEND AHEAD ..reduce speed to 10KM. The sharp bend they proclaim would't even register back in Derbyshire / Staffordshire.

  11. So the UK and Thailand do not have a reciprocal agreement on pensions, however the UK and other jurisdictions are attempting to extend reciprocal agreements on financial information. It wont be until 2023 that the expected legislation to annually and automatically report financial information under the CRS standards come into force here in LoS.

So that allows some freedom of your financial affairs presently. Much like most of Issan. After that maybe there can be another challenge on the issue; the first one was rejected in 2010 by the European court. Maybe Brexit will allow for another challenge.

Meanwhile a campaign of women in the UK born in the 50’s are continuing their fight against changes to the pension age…...on the grounds its unlawfully discriminatory on the basis of age and sex!

Pub?  Heck, I will be glad, when it is once again safe to sit out at the pier quaffing hand stinging cold beers from my esky, while nibbling on some grilled squid or chicken satay.  Took me a year to find a pub in my area that actually serves cold ones, unfortunately, they are too lame to understand that letting them freeze in their forty year old frig, makes them as flat as a cup of tea.

A very busy (in the past that is) restaurant chain near me serves frozen beers and the locals think it's 'nectar'. When you can finally (after 30 minutes of de-frosting) drink it, the beer that has defrosted first tastes awful. I miss good British landlords that know  a thing or two about serving beer.
