  1. My friend started taking edibles for a few days (Sunday as I understand). I have tried talking to him since Tuesday but every time he's just incoherent on the phone and I can't get a word he is saying. Till today he says he keeps eating them (his relative tells me)... I talked to his co-workers and they say they have not heard from him this week and HR is under pressure from the big boss... I don't know how I feel about that. He is a responsible person that never missed work. He'll snap out of it soon but there will be consequences. Can't see this being beneficial for the country honestly, except the companies selling this product. I don't know much about it, but as I understand CBD is good medicinally while THC makes you high also. Any member is welcome to enlighten me about it, there must be more to it that I'm not aware of. I'm just concerned, yet a bit ignorant.
  2. 3300+ jobs divided by 8 months... Hmmm, check your math again. I get that you were confused by the 323 investors, so just joking. ???? What people need to realize is that most of these investors put their money in existing Thai companies which is why it didn't necessarily create that many more jobs. Just bigger budgets for these companies. I still find 73 billion B to be quite low frankly. But I'd have to do some actual research to see if it is. I won't and will instead wish these investors and companies the best.
  3. Their real focus should be about arriving to Thailand. Between rogue agents asking people why they come back and questioning foreigners for hours (in a special room or otherwise) and incompetent young IOs, things will take 30 to 90 minutes again to pass immigration and customs when things get busier. I have never experienced that in the past in other Asian countries, where immigration was always fast and polite. And I used to travel a lot, to many places and often. Fun story. One of my long time friends came here last week. He came twice before, in 2009 and 2012. Less than a month each time. He had a new passport made in 2018. They (female IO) questioned him for 20 minutes upon his arrival this time even though he had a flight within 16 days back home and 2 printed hotels bookings for the whole time. She let him in eventually but he was shocked as if he was a criminal or something. We had drinks later on and he relaxed but still kept saying he had never been treated like this, ever. I really don't know what triggered the IO to do that.
  4. I'm sure you feel great posting that. Having other members liking what you wrote and having many hearts or smileys next to it. Have you ever considered it was a human life that was in play here? That all of the people in this forum and nationwide donated for a good cause? I'm glad many members are the opposite of you honestly.
  5. I get that. I have been here roughly 15 years and I have witnessed a lot of bad endings. I'll still choose to be hopeful this time around and pray that I'm right.
  6. Because she most likely never had more than 1-2k in her hands her whole life. Having this much money at once may cause her to make mistakes. Like buy a new I phone, expensive clothes or gadgets, "lend" to others and she may waste her money and not be able to go to university. She seems like she is a determined person but having trustees oversee her expenses does seem like the best option unfortunately. It's all about these trustees now and I hope they'll do a good job managing her funds.
  7. I don't understand people here who keep on being so negative. Yes, the money will be managed by trustees. But it is not fair to already assume that they will be greedy and find ways to rip her off. The money will be needed for years (probably 4 during university period) so I see no problem for them to plan yearly and avoid the sum being spent too fast. Some already assume that the school director will buy new pick up cars or already steal lunch money from his students. I mean, come on, we don't know the person. If they do rip her off, you'll be able to lash out with countless "I told you so". Until then, I don't see the point. These trustees may end up being very decent people. If there is any chance that our modest individual contributions end up changing her life, I think that was a great thing to do.
  8. That would really suck. I wouldn't be that surprised but hope people around her will be decent. Time will tell.
  9. Today was such a good day with so many members of Asean Now coming together and helping an ambitious young woman to get the life she deserves after being disadvantaged from birth with so much hardship. We all wish her to grow as a person and be as successful as she can be and enjoy life. If any of the trustees rip her off, that would be a great shame. I'll stay positive and hope for the best for now. All of you guys have been amazing, well done ????
  10. No, if you watch Thai news, you'll see videos for donations pretty much every day on many channels. It is not uncommon for donations to reach millions of baht and the receivers decide to close their bank account so that people can't send more money as they have exceeded their targets. There are still decent people on both sides it seems. You'd be surprised to see how strong the sense of community is here since the government is usually powerless to help (or too corrupted to care).
  11. Agreed, it's refreshing to go on this forum and see such positive attitude in a thread
  12. Never said that, of course she'll probably receive a lot more from Thai people. I'm just positively impressed that foreigners here are being generous and kind hearted toward a stranger in need.
  13. I'm just realizing that just from this thread alone, they got around 35k already, which is 1 whole year of income for her and her grandfather. Makes me happy to see many members here show tremendous generosity. I hope the money will be well spent and she can get a better life. Farangs are not all so bad after all ????
  14. Just donated 1,000 baht. Wish her all the best and you guys above are awesome for contributing!
  15. Can't wait to see how things will be different under Prawit's regime... ???? Only miracle would be for the court to decide and dissolve that joke of a "government". Do they have the authority for it?
  16. Guys, guys, guys... You can only have one request. But in this instance you'll have none ????
  17. There is some truth to your post. Many times people spend too much or get heavily indebted with unnecessary flashy things. They should save instead if they have kids to be better prepared as you pointed out. However, there are some cases where parents are poor but their kids are doing well in school and have the opportunity to get in decent universities. Parents know it's almost the only option for their kids to get a better life and break the poverty pattern. In these cases, I don't blame them for doing anything they can to make it happen, especially if they are not granted scholarships. And if they can't get student loans, they'll usually sell whatever they have or get mortgages if they have any assets (small land, house..).
  18. Oh, this is going to trigger so many people here. I got confused at first and then remembered it was TAT talking... As efficient and precise as always. Keep it up gents!
  19. That he'd get a new car, new house and a new watch instead. Well done buddy...
  20. I though they would be tightly controlled as well but like you said, supermarkets do pretty much whatever they want.
