Yeah only good folks in Pattaya.
Not sure what makes a person good. To a bargirl, a good person is a big spender. If that's the case, I'm a horrible person. What kind of person are you?

internet is fantastic in Vietnam, certainly in Da Nang. Free wifi in every shop, cafe, even on the beach. Have you ever driven Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai, is that a great road? roads are comparable in both countries. i go to Vietnam half the year, never experienced a power cut.
I've never had a problem with the Internet in Thailand. I don't care about free wifi as I would never use it, but most shops do have free Wifi if you care to use it, and major shopping malls too. I have good cellular packages to use when travelling, and 1000/1000 fiber at home. It surprises me that anyone would need anything better, and possibly leave the country for it. You can get much better if you pay for business packages and get dedicated lines (no sharing). It's all here.

It doesn't matter where you end up. There is no paradise where everything is exactly as you like it. Leave Thailand, and after your honeymoon period is over, in a new location, you'll end up finding new problems to complain about. It's quite likely you'll regret leaving Thailand.
I'm not interested in living in a one-party Communist (Socialist) state (from 1976) despite some of the advantages being touted on here.
I suspect that some expats moved to Vietnam and secretly regret it, and are trying to convince themselves that they made a good decision; moreover, they are still in the Thailand (ASEAN) forum talking about it.

Turns out not all packages are on the provider's page, some are distributed by third party vendors, the best deals in fact.
You're talking about special deals that pop up all week through special messages from your provider, but that's irrelevant, as you cannot subscribe to them unless you've been offered the deal. I just happen to be on one myself - 10GB per month at full speed for 100 baht. I've been using it for 2 years.

They might, or they may be like me.
I have normal home internet and often use the wi-fi at coffee shops.
I mostly use my internet data for Google Maps or reading the news when out and about.
I'm not streaming games or media, so 40GB a year is plenty.
Why would you need 40 GB per month for reading the news and using Google Maps? I get 10GB per month, and my heaviest use was only 5GB, using it for everything you can imagine.

So I was told that in Bangkok mobile phone intenet is more expensive than in Chiang Mai, where I pay 300 Baht for unlimited internet that is always on. Is it true that in Bangkok mobile phone internet is more expensive and that people opt for not unlimited internet but internet that is sometines on and sometimes off? Is that a real thing? How does that work?
Whoever told you that is talking nonsense. Your location is irrelevant. You download the app and check the packages of your provider. They will be the same anywhere in Thailand.

The regions make no difference at all. Promos come and go. People claim unlimited Internet. But unlimited 1 Mbps? 4 Mbps? 10Mbps? As if that little detail is not important...
Yes, correct. Unlimited packages will come with very slow speeds if they are cheap.

I had a Thai girl steal from me. Took 20,000 baht right out of my wallet. I had her ID, went to police, but they're completely useless.
Where in the world would police be able to recover cash stolen from a wallet? How would you prove it? Going to the police station would be a waste of time. Very few people walk around with that much cash these days. 95% of my transactions are debit card or QR transfer. Even food vendors accept QR payments.
Having said that, you should be more careful about the company you keep. I could keep 100k in my wallet, and my gf would touch it.

Vietnam is getting a lot of hype now, 40% cheaper than Thailand, easy immigration rules, no problem with border runs or "staying too much", friendly and helpful locals, no fake smiles like in Thailand when they only want your money. Tourists are flocking to Vietnam and can't stop raving about how much they like it. So the question is: why are YOU still in Thailand, and not in Vietnam?
If you're getting too many fake smiles, you might be in the wrong place. Try moving out of the main tourist areas. I can understand how difficult it is for Thais to put up with all the Indian and Chinese tourists, and plenty from the Middle East and Russia. They have to deal with them all day long.
I asked my Thai gf, who works in a 5-star hotel in Pattaya, if she likes them. Graciously, she replied, "not too much" LOL
Why am I still here? I like it here and don't want to start over in another country after 20 years, even if there might be some advantages. I've never been to Vietnam and don't have a desire to visit. I don't believe your story that in Vietnam they smile genuinely all the time, and that they aren't after your money, and that they really "dig" all foreigners. The desire for money is universal around the world.

Hard to even respond to such inane statements. Why? Because I have some issues with the place? Sorry to inform you, but the nature of a discerning mind, is to have issues.
Though absolute contentment must be a beautiful state of mind, it is not something most of us are blessed with, in case you have not noticed. The fact that I complain, does not mean I do not love Thailand, nor most of it's people. I do. I love my life here. I have a very good life here. But, I do have some complaints, and there are some things I would love to see improved. I should leave because of that?
Please. Next time you make a post, try to devote at least two moments of thought to it.
You're defending a foreigner who has no respect for Thai elders, calling them "old crows" and "fossils", just because they cannot speak English. The OP most definitely should pack his bags and leave. The sooner the better.
I agree that it's cliché when foreigners who complain are invited to leave, but defending this pr**k is a step too far.

I had to go through an entire eye check up at the opticians with some old crow. She had zero English and at one point she just said "nevermind" in Thai. Afterwards the assistant spoke to me in perfect English.
How about you? Do you think we should fire the fossils and pay the young people with 2 degrees, 5 languages and masters more?
Stop living in the dark ages. I don't speak Thai, but I open my Buz App and translate to Thai and vice versa. It makes life easy if you put in just a little bit of effort, and they appreciate it too. Criticising older Thai people for not speaking English is the height of ignorance. Calling an older woman "an old crow" is beyond ignorant; The words I need to define that are banned on here.
Regarding optometrists, I could hook you up with one of the best in Pattaya, who speaks perfect English.

Why must the Ukraine give up on the territories annexed by Russia?
Because YOU say so. It is NOT your land, territory or people.
Because Trump says so? It is NOT his land, territory or people either?
Nor does it belong to Russia either.
It belongs to the Ukraine.
Perhaps the USA should give ALL its territory back to the native Americans and the Mexicans that they stole it from?
That would be equally fair though I doubt that you would agree with that.
You must live in Lala Land. The borders of countries around the world have been shaped by the winners and losers of wars over millennia. It doesn't belong to Ukraine anymore because Russia took it from them, and there is no way to get it back. Ceding territory is the only way this war will end. If any other countries enter this war to help drive out Russia, a Nuclear war is a strong possibility.
You're sitting here in safety behind your keyboard. No one is asking you or your family to die in a war that cannot be won.

If they do that Russian appetite will only grow.
Ukraine has already lost and is only holding on by a thread due to waning foreign support. Should they give up now, or wait until 100s of thousands more are slaughtered on the battlefield with the possibility of nukes being deployed? Ukraine cannot win this war even with foreign support. They should take the best deal possible and save lives. Every battle has losers - they lost.

It is an internationally accepted concept since World War II that any land amassed over the course of a war does not legally belong to the victor. The only true exception of this might be Israel which illegally seized a significant amount of land.
Certainly the same applies to Russia and the pressure that Trump is putting on Zelensky to give up a very substantial portion of his nation is nauseating, pathetic, sickening, shameful and utterly desperate. In addition to showing a disgusting degree of butt kissing toward King Vlad.
Internationally accepted concepts are irrelevant unless there is someone to police them. There is not. China gave the International Court of Justice the middle finger and continues to build islands and military bases in the South China Sea.
Your fake nausea and disgust are pathetic. You don't live in the real world. There is no other solution to stop the bloodshed. Ukraine must give up on Crimea and other lost territories.

A few decades ago you would see men walking with arms around each other. Same with women. But it was very rare to see a man and woman touching while walking. It had nothing to do with sexuality.
But that has changed in recent times. Much more common now to see couples walking around holding each other than to see a group of friends walking around embraced.
A few decades ago? Really? I've been here for 2 decades, and nothing has changed. Holding hands is as normal and acceptable today as it was 2 decades ago. Maybe you've been here for over a century. I have no idea how people behaved back then LOL

I prefer to have the receipt, as a bit of an anti-app person. Less is better IMHO.
Always have a ballpark idea what the tally will be before paying, and if too far off, I'd like to know if over charged, or if they missed something, as most items with be pre-made meals, needing heating, and easily missed or double charged. Especially if 2 people get involved in the process.
Paying attention as they ring things up helps, as the digital display does face the customer.
I also prefer receipts, but I now use my girlfriend's membership, so I made the sacrifice of living dangerously and risking being overcharged LOL... for the greater good of accumulating points on her membership.
There are some benefits of using a membership. You can get extra discounts on some items, along with discounts for using some credit cards. For example, a while back, I got a 50 baht discount for using a MasterCard on several occasions. It might balance out for the occasional mistake made at the till. I usually keep an eye on the cash register screen as the items are being scanned. If I hear extra clicks on items, I make an immediate inquiry.

If you see a couple touching while walking, then you are not looking at a Thai couple.
Could be Chinese young people, or some very OLD Farang dude with his significant other from Pattaya.
Do you come from another planet? Thai woman love to hold their partners' hands IF they like them. If you have problems with females holding your hand in public, you're the problem.
Age difference—no problems. I'm 65, and my 26-year-old girlfriend always wanted to hold my hand. My current 33-year-old girlfriend won't go anywhere without holding my hand. Many casual dates also loved to hold hands.
Just use the test. Let her initiate hand-holding. If she doesn't want to touch you or hold your hand, then you're with the wrong lady.
I'm always in major tourist locations. I can't speak for what happens in a small rural town, aka Nakonsanowhere.

And if you say YES, must you then get your phone out for the receipt to be added to the correct account, thereby holding up customers behind you?
It makes no difference. If you pay by cash, you would be holding up customers behind you if you were checking it before you left the counter, AND they are all printed in Thai, so checking it can be time-consuming. Looking at the receipt on the 711 app would be equally time-consuming. I use a 711 membership number, so I don't get paper receipts.
Most people using commonsense would pay, take the receipt, and look at it after they leave the counter if they want to check it.
