  1. Think they were very very lucky last year with so few cases, the first strains weren't strong enough for Thailand's hot climate

Now the new strains are much more resilient than before let's hope Thailand doesn't turn into a second India.

When entering a shopping mall's everyone used the same old pen to sign in most don 't wash their hands after either,

and how many use the same old mask day in day out and does checking everyone's temperature really do any good?
Oh and someone please tell them face shields aren't a replacement for masks.

    2. To make COVID-19 vaccines available for people residing in Thailand on a foundation of ethics, equality, academic-based evidences, accessible supply, and management capability in national context, Thailand has been working under the Communicable Disease Act B.E. 2558 (A.D. 2015). On January 14, 2021, the National Communicable Diseases Committee (NCDC) has formed a sub-committee and tasked it with overseeing the rollout of COVID-19 vaccinations. Chaired by Public Health Vice Minister Dr. Sophon Mekthon, the sub-committee comprises all Thailand’s vaccine frontliners and aims at mitigating severe illness and death, stabilizing healthcare system, reducing virus transmission risk, and sustaining economic and social stability. All operations are under the consideration of Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) and with the cabinet’s approval of budget for vaccines to be available for the people across Thailand. The nation-wide vaccination program is scheduled to be completed in 2021.

Maybe there are a few words in that which they probably don't understand interpret differently such as Ethics and Equality?

If this proves to be true we should lobby Astrazeneca in Thailand.

What it says at the top THIS article @DirtyHarry55, the one you're reading right now is:

Expats in Thailand report successfully registering to receive COVID-19 vaccine

    Need we go on?

Oh I see my apologies I thought you meant the Title of the link you provided.
In any case one of those Expat's used his Thai ID which most of us don't have.
Lets see how this folds out seems there's a lot of confusion with information the usual bad planning.
I'm hoping Thailand will do the right thing without discrimination considering they were given the Astrazeneca vaccine out of good will on a not profit basis.
So I think that good will should be extended to all equally.

My wife tried to register me yesterday by speaking to my hospital consultant's nurse.  I am in the vulnerable category being 73 and having 3 of the conditions on the government list.  The nurse said not to worry, and to wait, as they have no supplies of AZ vaccine yet and very little Sinovac, which she described as "useless" and inappropriate for me anyway.  She also said that my consultant would notify me when they had appropriate vaccine available.

What she said doesn't make 100% sense because it's registration for Vaccination in July when the Atrazeneca should be availabe.
Maybe she just didn't want to tell you don't qualify.

Members of prioritised groups will be vaccinatedbetween June 7 and July 31. By then, Siam Bioscience Co Ltd will be producing millions of AstraZeneca vaccine doses in Thailand, says the government. The firm should be able to provide 6 million doses in June and 10 million in July, according to officials.

    This is total B.S.!

We don't have even one successful report of even one expat registering manually at any hospital in Pattaya with passport only.

Just because you and of course others have found success does NOT mean that great numbers of expats are not facing total roadblocks.

Yep and just because you were able to register don't mean your first in line either.

I knew it wouldn't be too long before I read a post like this. Well here's the good news, no one has been 'blocked by design' at all. Those who took the trouble to read the whole article that was posted yesterday (Saturday) would have read this:

    ''What priority groups must do:

To get free a COVID-19 dose, they can register for vaccination from May 1 by contacting their hospital or village health volunteer. However, the government is encouraging people to register and make a vaccination appointment via LINE for greater convenience''.

So you don't HAVE to have a pink card at all. I have already been registered at our local clinic.

    Vaccination booking opens in Thailand,

Doesn't mention Foreigners in that article can Foreigners register?
    It does say this though.

    Quote

    Who gets vaccination priority?

Thais aged over 60 – 11.7 million people in total – will be fast-tracked for jabs. They will be joined by another 4.3 million people whose underlying illnesses make them more vulnerable to COVID-19. Prioritised are people with chronic respiratory diseases, heart/blood vessel conditions, chronic kidney failure, stroke, obesity, cancer and diabetes.

  7. Absolutely to be expected prior to the Trials of over 50 current protest leaders and minors.
Don't think these extremists will mind spending a few nights in Jail for their cause and even if they are convicted they know they will be released soon after.
Is there any explanation to exactly why were found guilty? Is it because they were demanding a Military Coup?
If so what about the Coup Makers?? lol

unlike the other vax, sinovac is not for seniors.

it was tested on a controlled group up to 59 years old, so approved only to that age limit.

Possibly it can be given for healthy seniors, but than not much point of vaccinating them - it's the unhealthy which need it most.

Anyway, those 200k is not enough even for medical personel, and it has to be boosted in 2 weeks.

But I bet, that the ministry of health will grab some for themselves and the government officials.

I do also think that they have already ordered some other vax through embassies, diplomatic and the other channels. Possibly in december, when vax programs started to be rolled out. It's just matter of price, and they have all money.

Now, they well might be promoting sinovac, because they are uncertain when really astrazeneca will be available. Those 150k emergency order in nowhere and  is not know, if local production has started already. There are contradictory statements. And worrying is, they won't allow journalist to visit siam bioscience factory to confirm to the public.

    https://www.khaosodenglish.com/news/crimecourtscalamity/2021/02/23/curb-your-enthusiasm-prayut-could-be-too-old-for-sinovac-jab/

Yes probably so they can claim they started vaccinations in February why else order so few of it?

  9. 7 minutes ago, Moonlover said:

Astra Zeneca reviewed a number of potential candidates for local production before settling on Siam Bioscience. I think it was something like 5. None of the companies, to my knowledge, had produced vaccines before, so whomever AZ chose, it was going to be a 'cold startup'.

So you ask 'Given the absolute urgency, you think they were the best choice?'

My answer to that is that AZ is a major international player in the pharmaceutical industry, who know a heck of a lot more about producing vaccines than any of us do. I'd rather put my faith in their judgement than anyone on this forum.

Surely, when it come to producing vaccines, the most important aspect is to get it right.

So do you know who the other potential candidates were and perhaps a link?

he is simply copying the current slowly expanding world trend of showing Leaders getting it...   below is typical example of that... (OZ PM below)

but the public reaction at the moment centres upon close scrutiny of the orange needle cap still being in place!!

Yes but other World leaders have done so in order to encourage their people to also take the vaccine.

With only 200k doses that's hardly going to be the case in Thailand until they have enough but when will that be.
This is more a pr stunt to claim they have started to vaccinate the population which they haven't really and probably VIP's MP's and Civil servants will get it before the elderly.

  11. Maybe they're taking their time because they need the Virus to last as long as possible as to wield the power of Emergency Decree?
